The location was fab being a 15 min walk and equidistant from the train station and my friends place. It's also situated right at the top of the high street. It's also near the canal and Victoria Park if you like walking and green spaces.

No lift! There are 300 rooms over a sprawling 2 floors with many stairs, door and corridors to traverse if you're in a higher no room (I was in room 226) and it was far from the reception and the dining area. I have mobility issues so it was difficult for me. Request lower floors if you can't walk stairs. The walls, doors, woodwork, window frames etc needed a good scrub as did the grout in the bathroom.

Very good cooked items for breakfast; very good location and spacious car park. Very helpful and responsive staff when there was an issue with the room.

The first room we had had a big hole/valley in the mattress. They had no space to put us elsewhere and said they would turn the mattress but in the end moved us to the room next door and tried to fix the issue for the people who would be using the original room that night. I dropped an item behind a bedside table and had to move it to retrieve the item and there was a lot of fluff and dust - obviously not cleaned for ages. Also, in the original room, all of the net curtains were aged and had holes in - I took photos.

Location. Could walk everywhere in Newbury. Breakfast was very good. We stayed over valentine's and had meal in the restaurant which was really nice. Carpark is free and had no issues parking.

Although the room was great and a good size. We felt as though it hadn't been used for a while. There were cobwebs on the ceiling and windows and dust on tops. There were no glasses. All of these were rectified by house keeping but should of been done before. The view from the window onto the flat roof is ok, we didn't mind. But it was littered with rubbish. Simple things and easy to fix. Just getting to a stage where needs a bit spending on the outside.

This is a really nice hotel with a fabulous location for the town centre and onsite parking. The twin room was large, comfortable and quiet with a large bathroom. The staff were all lovely, really friendly. A good buffet breakfast included. Brilliant value for money with the deal we secured.

The shower ran well until the water got hot then it lost pressure. Overall, not a big deal but if I had wanted to wash my hair, it would have been an issue. A good buffet breakfast with lots of choice, however, quite poorly managed. Both days, the options were not kept topped up so we had to stand around waiting for eggs etc for quite a long time which meant your plate of food got cold.

It was close to the Newbury town centre , parking was free and lots of spaces available hotel bar was nicely presented, also the bedrooms were comfortable and cosy.

Some of the hotel staff weren’t as helpful as others. We arrived before the check in time at the hotel reception and asked one of the staff members if we could check in earlier and was met with a fairly stroppy response with check in isn’t open until 2pm and didn’t look up from her computer and gave me eye contact. Also my fiancée thinks the showers are temperamental with the hot and cold temperatures.

We recently stayed at the chequers hotel before but stayed in one of the outside apartments. This time we was in the main building and the room was so much better and more comfortable, with all the same amenities that we had in the apartment. We also had breakfast this time included and it was really nice a great start to the day. The reason we returned to this hotel was it’s proximity to the town centre of Newbury and the big free car park attached to the property.

Not much we didn’t like this time, tea/coffee could have been a bit warmer at breakfast and some runny fried eggs.

Lovely welcome. Even put TV on for us so we could watch a race. Drinks in the bar well priced. Service good. Bed very comfortable and room a lovely size. Great location. Breakfast very good except one little gripe. Sausages very good and hash browns best weve tasted for a long time.

Unfortunately no tea or coffee bags in our room so had to phone down for some in the morning. Delivered quickly with apology. Eggs ran out at breakfast and had to wait a very long time for them to be replaced and by then the queue waiting for eggs was about 10 deep. Apart from that breakfast was very good with everything you'd expect.

My daughter & I found the staff excellent - very friendly & helpful. Tracey was the Receptionist for most of our stay & we had a very good rapport. The Waiters & Waitresses were also very nice but we felt sorry for them bringing Breakfast up so many stairs to our room 207 but it saved me (at age 91) from having to negotiate over 35 stairs up & down for Breakfast (with painful Arthritic knees and unreliable balance!!).

The ridiculously high bathroom mirror, which was very decorative but totally useless unless you're extremely tall!! Also, in the bedroom, the dressing table and chair need moving LEFT to facilitate the mirror usage as sitting there in its present position means one can't use the mirror as it's intended.

Great location, within Newbury Town Centre. The Chequers has good facilities, including free parking. Staff are friendly and enaging. Breakfast is sensibly priced and offers all you need. There is also a pleasant bar. Rooms are clean and well equipped. Including a tea/ coffee making facilities. Comfortable bed, with quality sheets and pillows. This was at least my third stay and I’d happily return.

Given the price and location - Nothing. Much prefer The Chequers to staying at a large chain hotel ending in ‘ Lodge’ or ‘Inn’. Maybe check if there’s a party booked ( Assuming you’re not already attending one). As some nearby or lower floor rooms might be affected by the noise levels. The parties held during any of my stays seemed to end at a reasonable hour.

Lovely hotel not far from Newbury Town Centre. Lovely Comfy rooms. Comments to improve would be that rooms need to be checked thoroughly before guests arrive. In room 205 bedside lights did not work and my friends kettle in her room 109 did not work and there was limescale inside the kettle. The other comment for improvement is to include fresh fruit at the breakfast. My friend said hot water in the flasks for tea were cold. I would definitely stay here again. When these things are rectified I would happily give full marks
