We enjoyed absolutely everything about our stay, an excellent place, and we would happily stay here again if we're looking for somewhere in the area. Andrea was exceptional through and through, a great host! We got a free room upgrade as it was empty which was really nice, the place exceeded our expectations. The room was spacious, the food absolutely spot on, and again, Andrea's service and hosting skills were top notch, very polite and caring. The only thing I could fault is that the hot water took a while to heat up, at first I thought it wasn't working, but rest assured it just takes a few minutes, but that's absolutely no issue at all.

No faults at all, just the previously mentioned hot water that takes a while to get going, but again this isn't an issue if you have even the slightest bit of patience.

Lovely location and very quiet despite the proximity to the road. Rooms are at the back of the building overlooking the moors. A delightful and professional welcome and nothing was too much trouble to make our stay comfortable. We ate in the restaurant and food was excellent and home cooked. This is a family business that takes pride in its offering. We needed to leave before the normal breakfast time, but were provided with amazing fresh BLT sandwiches, water, biscuits, crisps and fruit to take with us. Our room was large and very comfortable; everything was spotlessly clean. We’d stay again.

This was our second stay because we enjoyed the first. The rooms are spacious and clean, bar is well stocked and food is good. Car parking is large and there are outdoor tables. The location is excellent.

The bathroom door grated badly on the floor, so noisy to open or close. After breakfast I was told I couldn’t use the toilets in the bar as they had just been cleaned; I must use the bedroom. We should have booked a ground floor room as I have MS. We deliberately brought bags down before breakfast so I would not have to climb stairs again as my legs were stiff and painful. In addition, MS often makes people need the loo urgently so having to struggle back upstairs was distressing. If you must close the toilets, please leave one available for guests, and don’t close them during breakfast!

Couldn’t have asked for better hosts and service. Nothing was too much trouble and little issues were sorted immediately. Food was excellent - made a bad choice one evening and food was replaced without a fuss. Extremely dog friendly. Bedrooms were spacious and bed comfy. Great base.

Walls seemed very thin between bedrooms so you could hear next door. Toiletries were very poor sample size shampoo and body wash. There was a sign in the bathroom asking ‘ladies’ not to use towels when wearing fake tan or makeup! A bit sexist 🤣 males can wear these products too! Although these were observations it did not spoil our stay and we would definitely return if in the area.

The food and service was lovely, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean, it was quiet and you couldn’t hear the noise from the bar, which was still active when we went to our room. The staff were obliging and friendly.

The door handle to our room was broken, the handle was loose and it was difficult to open. we couldn’t get the shower to click into place so I had to hold it. The bathroom door didn’t close properly you had to lift it and close it. We did let them know and they were aware but couldn’t get anyone out to fix it until all the guests had gone after the weekend. It was all fine though the good outweighed those couple of things.

Lovely place for a stopover to explore the nearby countryside and villages. We needed a place that took dogs, and this one does. Felt looked after well by the staff. Lovely meals and lovely breakfast with a great selection of choices for both. Lovely big room with plenty of facilities and a large bath (welcome after walking on the windy moors). Great bar area with roaring fire and excellent service separate spaces to sit quietly in lovely room with pool table to chill. Lovely outside area at the back for when the weather is good

There were a lot of reminders to keep the sheets and towels clean and dogs off all furniture even with blankets, that for someone like me, made me a little paranoid and less settled. I understand the concern, but it felt a little heavy-handed. Having said that, everything else was really lovely and would definitely recommend.

The staff were courteous and friendly. And welcomed our dog as much as they did us. The food was excellent. Although it initially requires some walking along a very busy and fast moving A628, once you reach and follow the bridle path towards Langsett Reservoir, you will see some stunning scenery. Our dog certainly enjoyed her walks that day (but due to her "inquisitive" nature had to remain on the lead)

The bedroom was too hot for sleeping conditions (22degC according to the thermostat) and cannot be adjusted to individual preferences, because all bedrooms are connected to one large underfloor heating system. Even after the UFH turned off for the night and with the window cracked wide open it took a long time to get it to a more reasonable temperature.

Breakfast was really nice, we had the cooked option and was lovely. Fresh Orange juice on the table and lovely pot of tea. Service was good and friendly we have stayed here before, so i must recommend

I didn't realise i hadn't paid for the dogs, i think this is more booking.com then the hotel, as it thought i had paid for it all. Rooms were a little cold, hotel is high up and all underfloor heating which was locked at 18. So i would ask staff if you are chilly, we didn't realise where the heating was till the morning.

Sat nav doesn’t take you to the pub, but to a sign that tells you how to get there! Friendly welcome and fires burning…rugby match on, so we had a pint and watched that before moving to a table reserved in the bar for dinner. Great food, home cooked with exceptional game sausages! They were so good! I was expecting to be let down by breakfast sausages as many places cut corners, but they were proper sausages, butcher/homemade style. 10/10 for breakfast- only complaint that butter is better than spread! Room was peaceful, warm, clean and comfortable with more than enough room for our furry family member! Was expecting to hear road noise as the pub is in the main a road between Barnsley and Manchester, but so peaceful….not a sound! Nice to have facilities for a brew and biscuits supplied too! The staff are friendly, smiley and work so hard! Nothing was too much trouble and I would recommend this place without question.

Would like butter with toast instead of spread at breakfast…but everything else was 💯

I had dinner and the food was exceptional. Freshly cooked pizza. It was delicious. Staff were friendly and welcoming. They were willing to prepare a breakfast for me as I was leaving early in the morning. The room was spacious and warm. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom had a bath with shower over it. I will certainly be booking this place again when I’m next in the area.

There was nothing I didn’t like about The Dog & Partridge. Everything was so comfortable and clean.
