The "Elephant and Peacock" is a newer name for venue's original name of "The Strutt Arms". It functions as a Pub, Hotel and (bonus) an Indian Restaurant (but also serving other food too). On this subject, we have to say the food was superb for both the day/evening food and also for the breakfasts. Location was good. Although we were on a motorcycling tour of Derbyshire, we also had some "downtime" off the bikes and so used the local bus services too. Bus stops were right outside and on one side, the stop was even named as per the pub/hotel itself. From here we went to Belper and Matlock Bath very easily. The rooms were larger than many we've stayed in and they were very comfortable. Our stay was during the recent days of very hot weather and the owners had very thoughtfully gone out and bought additional (and powerful) fans for the rooms despite that they already had smaller ones. These were very welcome. Good sized showers and beds made things additionally comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean and well-kept. The restaurant and bar areas were spacious and pleasant and there was very good seating outside too. The owners and staff were super and nothing was any trouble for them. Very polite, attentive and customer-focussed. Our arrival coincided with the installation of a new "ANPR" parking control for guests. As this is generally a popular area, it might otherwise be easy for public who might not be staying or using the venue to take up spaces. The new system went "live" during our stay and was installed to ensure only legitimate clients of the venue can park are using it. There are signs in the car park and you just need to validate your vehicle's registration on their system on arrival (devices are just inside the main entrance). We did this each 24 hour period as had been recommended. If in doubt, check with staff and they'll advise.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-night stay at the Strutt / E&P. We were greeted and treated effusively and politely by all the staff. Our room was clean and comfortable, pleasantly decorated - classic with a modern twist - with a fine bathroom and spacious shower. The Indian food is lovely, really enjoyable. Some delicious wafts rise up to the bedrooms. We found breakfast to be fine and plentiful - hot & cooked options, with cereal / muffins / flapjack bars also available. The location was perfect for our needs. It is situated on a main road - we were at the rear, and as such we could hear the flow of the River Derwent behind us - not particularly invasive at all - however I cannot vouch for any noise from the front rooms. We did not notice any real noise coming up from the bar. Overall we experienced a super short break, and I would have no hesitation in making a recommendation.

Room was very clean and comfortable. Easy access and parking. Great Indian restaurant with excellent food.

The bathroom's floor tiling was badly fitted. Floor tiles had been laid on an uneven floor and so most of the grouting had come away. This left tiles loose and moving when walking on them and also a safety hazard. The metal bars in the roof were a nice original feature but in the bathroom the bar was a bit low and my husband banged his head once in the night. The room was not serviced the whole time we were there (3 days) this was apparently what was offered, although if we asked for replenishment of teas, coffees and clean cups, this was done quickly. The breakfast buffet could have had a few more choices for continental options but cooked breakfast was good.

This is a wonderful hotel! The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, the room was spotless and beautifully appointed, and the breakfast was lovely. And finally, as a special request for my partner, I had asked for a room with a beautiful double-ended bath like the one I'd seen on Booking listing - they quickly said that wouldn't be a problem and we got exactly what I asked for... And it was very much appreciated! Thank you.

The only tiny niggle I could think of (and it's almost insignificant) is that the (large and otherwise very comfy) bed seemed to consist of two adjoing mattresses with a hard division line between the two.

Hotel is above the pub, the Elephant & Peacock, serving excellent Indian food which we were fortunate to experience. Our room was large, had everything we needed, and more, and was very comfortable. Loved the decor. Great night’s sleep and superb breakfast in the morning. Staff were so friendly and helpful and went out of their way to accommodate us when we hadn’t reserved a table that evening. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend to anyone considering booking. To avoid disappointment, reserve table at restaurant.! This is a very popular place to eat. We stayed on a Saturday night and the place was buzzing.

Nothing!

Excellent value for money. Staff were charming, welcoming and helpful. The room was a good size and had everything we needed. Cooked breakfast was very good. Although it was busy downstairs, the room was quiet (apart from the obvious traffic sounds which you'd expect from a roadside location although even that wasn't a problem). Always space to park. It ticked all the boxes for us and we would definitely stay again.

Very limited choice of fruit at breakfast. The first morning there were apples and one satsuma. I took the satsuma but it was very dry. The second morning there was only the choice of apples. There was a towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door from the previous occupant which had obviously been missed.

Our room was huge and exceptionally nicely decorated with a fab new bathroom , all modern but tastefully done. Our bed was large bed 5ft or more. Some little toiletries in the bathroom, I didn't expect for the price, which was extremely reasonable considering a full English Breakfast is offered with, juice, cereals, Tea ,coffee and toast, all including in the p decorated on a modern Indian theme with a nice atmosphere. The hotel / Pub is The Strutt Arms but it is an Indian restaurant, very nicely decorated with a modern Indian theme. Worth a visit The best recipe on the menu, by far, was the Railway Lamb ,very flavoursome with medium heat, not hot. The Tarawalla Chicken was lovely too. The mixed starter for 2 was lovely and different to the usual Indian starters worth a try but a tad expensive at £20 for 2 to share.

There was no mention that the Strutt Arms pub side of the hotel wasn't open until 3 pm. We thought there would have been someone in the pub side a reception before then !!! 😞 The menu was limited.

The breakfast was very nice, the staff were lovely, and we enjoyed the evening meal. We also had a lovely walk, exploring the village.

The description on the Booking.com website needs updating. The pub is now called the Elephant & Peacock and this is written in large letters on the outside wall, the only view visible from the road. We couldn’t find the Strutt Arms and drove through the village several times before stopping and asking a local resident who told us that the pub was now Indian-run and had a new name. The dining menu is exclusively Indian (the food was delicious) so maybe Booking.com should make this clear.

Beautiful kept hotel and lovely social area and bedrooms. All beautiful decor. A bit noisy in rooms overlooking the main road but didnt spoil the stay. Fantastic clean bathroom , great shower and comfortable bed. Iron and ironing board, hairdryer , towels and bathroom products all lovely quality and plenty on the hospitality tray all provided. Beautiful decor in all areas, lovely lighting and fixtures throughout. Large outdoor seating area with parasols, lighting and very comfortable. All staff very friendly and attentative. Was advised where to go for food as the restaurent doesnt open on Monday. Had a lovely curry meal on Tuesday evening. Not too hot, good portion size and all served with excellent customer service. Happy hour for drinks between 4pm and 6pm Tuesday to Saturday.... no complaints about that !!!! Breakfast with plenty of choice and served upto 9.30 p.m Would highly recommend a stay here. Ideal for Matlock, Bakewell and the Derbyshire Dales areas.

Bacon and sausage at breakfast were a bit greasy. Thought they may have been cooked in a pan rather than grilled. Stayed on the hottest 2 nights in July so bedroom overlooking the front was very hot but the hotel cannot rule the weather. And same as that traffic noise cannot be controlled.

The bonus was having a curry house in the hotel! There was plenty of parking and the building was in a nice location. The meals we had in the evening were nice.

Breakfast portion was small. Very small portion of beans with vege breakfast (a tablespoon at the most). Veggie sausages weren't very nice. Fruit juice tasted odd and couldn't even tell what flavour it should have been as it just tasted very sweet. There was no sign for the Strutts Arms only the Elephant and Peacock which is the curry house so wo drove past a couple of times trying to find the place. Signage should be improved or make it clearer that it is at the Elephant and Peacock. Could do with better cleaning in the hotel bathroom.
