It is an attractive hotel in a beautiful village location. There are interesting local walks on roads and footpaths - we took the shorter one beside the river to the parish church, and the longer one by road across the railway line and then along the canal tow path. The staff were helpful, particularly the lovely cleaners. The pub does very good food, so everything is catered for. The garden is lovely, with river views, and even an ancient Jacobite monument! There is plenty of parking.

Breakfast is currently the weak point in this business. There is a really odd pricing system, that is very restrictive. Depending which breakfast you pick, you are required to select specific items from a set of checklists. It feels a bit more like prison than a hotel. My children had the set kids breakfast, and only chose half their possible options, as they weren't especially hungry; however, one of them then asked for a slice of toast, and I was charged an extra pound, as he had already had his "item from list B". I would stay here again, but would go elsewhere for breakfast, unless they find a better system.

The food in the restaurant was lovely and the staff were all very friendly. Service for our food and drinks were very quick, plates well presented and good value for money. The room decor was nice and comfortable. Would have preferred a bath if there was an option but the shower and bathroom were of good size and lighting. We were allowed to check in an hour early as our room was ready so this was a bonus!

The room was very hot, although a fan was provided it didn't really take the edge off. The window wouldn't hold open, so we had to wedge a pillow in to hold it up. The bar area and garden were quite messy, in that there were dirty glasses all along one length of the bar and scattered dirty plates/glasses throughout the garden that were gathering ants. The room had some cobwebs on the ceiling and behind all the menus on the desk. It might be nice to have an option for a key box for early check out, as we didn't realise we were locked into the residential area until 7am.

Really nice old inn, tastefully updated where suitable. Plenty of room in the bar/dining areas. Staff were all excellent. The room was a really nice place to stay, tastefully decorated with a very comfortable bed and the bathroom was also excellent. We ate here both nights and the food was to a very high standard and quite reasonably priced, this was followed by breakfast which we were both extremely happy with, again this was superb value. This Marston's Inn is beautifully situated on the banks of the river Trent with the Trent and Mersey canal also near with plenty of walking routes.

Nothing, just about perfect!

We had the largest room which was set in the old stables. It was surprising to have the amount of space with a bathroom/bath/shower. Everything was clean and tidy and we couldn't get over that we paid just over £50 for 2 adults and 2 children for 1 night!! Premier inn wanted at least twice that!! I would Def recommend this place and have already! Staff were all lovely and asked us how our day was...

It is next to a road, where we heard a few motorbikes and loud cars, but it soon went quiet after midnight and our kids slept through it anyways.

Super clean spacious room! Great comfy bed and good value for money :)! Loved the fact that it had a bath, as a family room a bath is needed to scrub the kids! Thankyou for the fan, was needed as was a very hot day!

The bedside table was broken and the leg kept falling off. The travel cot I requested wasn’t in the room and was very difficult to put up. Maybe something to consider moving tv closer to the adults double bed, as once children are asleep tv is close to their bed and may disturb them.

Rooms were only 4 weeks new as been renovated and nice and fresh! We traveled with 2 kids and hotel took care about them too with kids beds. We loved beer garden where kids could play and we went for a nice walk along river. So close to airport too so really convenient as were catching early flight next morning. Highly recommend to everyone!

We also had a meal at restaurant which was good but we have ordered extra bowl with chips which never came and service in evening was taking a bit too long. And when we went to pay chips were added to our bill lol lady took it of and we got 20% off as we're stayed in hotel. So bonus really

The location is super. The room was very nice, although the bed settee a bit uncomfortable to use as a settee during the day. The restaurant provided very good meals. Parking was good as my husband is disabled but we were able to park next to outer doors and access our room without going through the pub.

A fridge would have been a good idea. We were right next to the car park, which was a bit noisy with customers entering and leaving the pub but the pub didn't keep late hours, so it was OK.

Lovely place, great location for what we needed. Very Clean, spacious and comfortable room. The lovely gentleman who checked us in (and served breakfast the following morning) was extremely welcoming and helpful as we're the bar/breakfast staff.

The lady who we assumed to be the manager, was rude, ignorant and whilst checking out she reprimanded a member off staff in front of us, the issue was not at all related to our stay but it didn't seem to matter. We were stood waiting, just a couple of feet away (and in clear view) whilst she laid into the poor girl. Following which she continued to ignore us and carried on with something on the computer. Extremely unprofessional and embarrassing for all concerned.

The staff were fabulous x attentive without being intrusive. The room we stayed in Room 2 on the ground floor was absolutely beautiful, a converted stable, retaining many stunning features, tastefully updated , merging contempary with modern convenience. The bathroom was elegant and spotlessly clean, with high end toiletries. The restaurant and bar situated in a beautifully restored coaching inn offered an extensive drinks menu and a fabulous choice of dishes catering for all. The car park also had an electric charging point. A bonus for electric vehicle owners.

We loved absolutely everything.

Nicely decorated and set up room, comfortable bed, ample parking, good pub food at reasonable prices. Beer was pricey so we only had one.

I emailed a question to the property via booking.com (3 times)and got no response. Probably better to phone direct. We had to be in Derby for 7.30am to set up for an exhibition. Breakfast doesn't start till 8am. Not obvious when you book.
