Loved the old style building but areas are in bad need of clean and re decorate. The evening food was lovely but breakfast could be better organised. Nobody came and served us with tea or coffee. The door to the bathroom in our room was dirty and in need of a new door, it spoiled the whole look of the beautiful very large room we had! The bedroom was nicely decorated but sheets are old and not new. This was visible to see.

Some areas of obvious disrepair but we did put this down to it been a busy hotel and bar, the area outside is lovely and equipped fully for colder evenings. The hotel itself is a lovely old building

We went to Belper for a family weekend in the Shottle Hall. The Lion Hotel was well situated, not just for the wedding, but for all the delights of Belper. The hotel had a great vibe with plenty of spaces to eat, drink and just relax. The staff were very helpful and professional and ensured we had everything we needed for a few days away.

The room we stayed in was fine, if a little tired, and in all fairness a little modernisation is required. It didn't hinder or affect our stay. I don't wish to sound overly critical.

Good value with parking and breakfast included. Bar / Restaurant on site. Staff very helpful. Located close to main shopping area and petrol station nextdoor. Room facilities adequate and comfortable bed. Meal in the bar was enjoyable. Well suited to serve our overnight stay with breakfast served from 7am was great as we needed to check out by 8.30am. Would consider using again and possibly booking a Sunday lunch meal when next visiting family in the area.

Convenient location, but it is a busy noisy road. Obviously that can not be changed. Room got a little too hot in the night and was above the bar so could hear noise until late. Although we were warned in advance of an event taking place that evening. Breakfast was continental style but had to ask where it was served.There was no staff in breakfast room so assumed it was help yourself. Menu said cooked breakfast available but no one asked if we wanted that. A member of staff did pop in briefly to ask our room number but didn't enquire if we needed anything else and didn't come back.

Nice and easy to find. Right in the heart of Belper. No problem for a walk down the high Street. Parking is private behind a barrier and plenty of space. Room was nice and clean with the usual amenities. More in keeping with the three stars already given, but........ The food is on another level. 5 star level. Try out the avocado and prawn cocktail for starters and the Neopolitan sundae for pudding. Amazing. If I'm back in the area, I would not hesitate in booking again.

Room 22 was on the front and really noisy with passing traffic at night making it difficult to get to sleep.

Location good. Room 11 king room was spacious. The bed was big and comfortable. Shower was like a jet wash. This was our 2nd stay here. We booked to return for an Indian at elaichi restaurant. which we would definitely recommend just down the road. We will be back later in the year. P

Really could do with some new pillows as they was well worn with little support. I did ask for extra which they did, but the same quality. They only down side to a spacious room was we over looked the petrol station and it was open 24hrs. You only have curtains which isn't very private. Could add blinds as an option as nets are dated. The lighting wasn't great nor was the lack of plug sockets. None by the bedside either side.

1st of all I like staying in Belper, its down to earth and always fun. I have been staying in the Lion on and off for 10+years. The food is good and wholesome there was l8ve music this Sunday and he was good. I took my partner with me for the 1st time and she said how much she enjoyed it also. We did push the boat out and had the honeymoon suite, room 26. It is nice with lots of space a still lower cost than many small rooms at other hotels.

Plenty of room to unpack n relax.. Staff very helpful n knowledgeable.. With a Good bar and Good food available, Makes having a good night in very pleasant, especially if you've been out n about all day. One flight of stairs when ur body is about to fold up whether ur ready or not makes good sense to me.. x

Not enough electric sockets, 3 usable in a room with A kettle, tv, fan, (it was hot) And chargers for them devices we all cart about these days.. with no usb sockets... Choose wisely...

The staff were helpful & friendly. Beer garden was a great place to sit & enjoy the good weather. Good choice of Ale's & Spirits with some brewed locally. Didn't eat there but the menu looked good.

Room was a mix of old & new & looked ready for a refurb. We were on the road side of Hotel & the traffic noise woke us up early as the window wasn't double glazed & was a sash window that didn't close tightly. Maybe a tad overpriced for what it was..

Lovely room. Clean and comfortable. Lovely bathroom. Great food in the bar / restaurant. Secure free parking on site. Handy for the town and all amenities. Continental breakfast was very nice and included in the price

One of the guests in the adjacent rooms was very noisy, very late into the night. Not the hotels fault obvs. Third time I have stayed and the first time this has happened.
