Lovely guest house in a well placed location. We had the downstairs bedroom with extra room and access to the outdoors courtyard which we used during our stay. It was great to have this outdoors space as the weather was lovely when we stayed. Breakfast good and cooked to order. Also good selection of continental breakfast items too. Comfortable for our short stay and plenty of room to move about. We had everything we required. Paula and Shaun were welcoming and helpful and you could see that they worked hard to ensure that their guests were happy. Being able to park on the drive .. albeit a bit cramped.. was a Godsend in this location. Great that they are able to offer some good discounts with tourist attractions too... £5 off the online prices for Heights of Abraham being the best! Some reviews mentioned noise in this room... Overall I found it far quieter than any hotel I have ever stayed in... It's not sound proofed so you do hear things from other rooms but it doesn't disturb you at all. We loved our stay. If we were visiting the area again I wouldn't hesitate to stay there. Thank you Paula and Shaun.

There wasn't much we didn't like... Only being picky because I am asked by the review prompt to say what I didn't like.... The dodgy shower switch was a bit annoying but we got there in the end ... It's just a bit temperamental and wasn't staying on .. the owners are aware and have had it checked but it keeps doing it. Parking a bit tight but as I already said... Not a problem as we parked up and didn't drive for the weekend but if you wanted to get in and out throughout the day it could be awkward.

Very handy for the Matlock Bath promenade which is the reason that I chose to stay there, had been planning to spend the bank holiday Monday looking at the motorbikes but unfortunately the weather didn't play ball, spent some time at a local attraction instead which I was given a voucher for to gain discounted entry, helpful and friendly staff. Very tasty and substantial breakfast, it filled me up and it was much later on in the day before I wanted anything else to eat. Central location, clean, comfortable, pleasant surroundings, what's not to like?

Nothing.

Lovely accommodation, room very clean and comfortable, breakfast was beautiful and freshly cooked. Had a ground floor room with access to the courtyard. Right in the centre of matlock bath with easy access to public transport and walking distance to matlock.. Paula and Shaun are lovely hosts and go out of their way to help in any way they can and that includes parking your car for you 🤣. Only thing I'm disappointed in was missing seeing the dogs, but maybe next time. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return.

Nothing to dislike

The property was perfectly located for restaurants/bars/shops, train station and cable car to Heights of Abraham. All within a few minutes walk! Our room and ensuite were clean and comfortable with coffee/tea making facilities (and biscuits!). Breakfast was delicious! and we could choose exactly what we wanted from the list of food items on offer. Paula and Sean made us very welcome and were very helpful regarding booking the cable car. Thank you for a lovely stay, we’ll be back!

We had a lovely stay at Ashbourne House, a beautiful Victorian Grade II listed building full of charm and character. Our room was large and spacious, offering a fantastic view of the river and Matlock Bath. Our hosts were incredibly friendly and easy to get along with, making us feel right at home. Breakfast was delicious, with a great selection to choose from, everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. Highly recommended for a relaxing and scenic getaway!

Lovely, sympathetically restored early Victorian building, with welcoming hosts. Located right in the centre of Matlock Bath, which meant that a small amount of traffic noise was inevitable, even in a quiet location at the rear of the property, but really nothing too obtrusive (it was quiet at night) and a general air of calm relaxation. The car park, with a space for every room, and outdoor tables were a bonus. We enjoyed sitting at the front, under the Monkey Puzzle Tree and watching the world go by. Our room was clean and comfortable. An appetising breakfast, in a tastefully decorated dining room with plenty of options, prepared in an immaculate kitchen. We would definitely go back again!

The only question we raised turned out to be something that the hosts were aware of and trying to sort out. The window in our room was cracked, but due to the Grade Two listing of the building, replacing the glass with approved 'like for like' panes is not a straightforward process. It did not detract from our stay, in any way, and our room was warm and dry. Only mentioning this, to point out that it is not due to negligence. The beautiful condition of the rest of the property speaks for itself.

Great location near to shops:pubs etc but still peaceful Beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. Nice little touches that make your stay special like a night light in the toilet so that you are not disturbed by extractor fan noise in the night when turning the bathroom light on, and top quality tea and biscuits. Scrumptious breakfast with all tastes catered for, friendly hosts - would definitely recommend

Sink outside the bathroom in room 3 make things a bit awkward could do with a towel rail/holder next to the sink but this would not stop us from staying here again though

The hosts.who were very welcoming and helpful. Excellent organisation and splendid breakfast The room was spacious, including bathroom Hosts very helpful regarding parking arrangements and where to go for food Provided discount for entry to Haddon Hall Even though it was July, the heating came on a bit as the weather was very chilly The room was very well lit with a range of lights .

Nothing significant Just the room was a bit cold on arrival and a little chilly sometimes although I was pleased the heating came on and then it was fine

Very helpful owners. Room was enormous and generally comfortable - the secondary glazing meant that there was no noise from the road. Breakfast was good.

Secondary glazing meant that there was no ventilation into the room - which was OK while we were there in a cool late-Spring. The handbasin was outside the toilet/shower ensuite, and sited next to the window and with no ability to hang towels and very limited space for bathroom paraphernalia. Nearby options for eating locally in the evening were limited, although we liked The Fishpond pub.

Paula & Shaun were fantastic hosts with lots of knowledge and it felt more like being at home while there. The breakfast was excellent with great choices and good quality ingredients. Location was excellent and lots of choice for places to eat and the train station was a short distance to walk to. The room had all we needed and a wonderful book with the history on the place and lots of info on places to eat etc. The bed was comfy and the room nice and clean. Can’t wait to visit again! Don’t pass this wonderful place and hosts by!
