A Perfect Sunday Roast Getaway! Our recent stay at The Red Lion in Matlock exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. We enjoyed co-owner Lee’s dry scene of humour. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing escape on our anniversary. Our room was clean and comfortable. The Sunday roast carvery, wow! The restaurant was fully booked so an advance booking is recommended. The selection of meats was cooked to perfection, tender and succulent, with a fantastic selection of roasted vegetables and light, fluffy Yorkshire puddings. It was, without a doubt, one of the best carvery lunches we’ve had for a long time. The location of The Red Lion is also a huge plus. Matlock itself is a beautiful town with plenty to explore, and the pub's central location makes it an ideal base for discovering the surrounding area. We had a day out at nearby Bakewell, and another day we enjoyed a walk to Lumsdale Falls. Overall, our stay at The Red Lion was exceptional. The combination of friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, and a truly outstanding Sunday roast carvery, the on-site micro brewery (my favourite was the Giddy Edge IPA), makes this a must-visit. I wholeheartedly recommend The Red Lion to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway in Matlock. We can't wait to return!

Breakfast (Full English) was excellent and served by friendly staff in comfortable space. Room was clean and comfortable. Excellent bar with seven real ales (three guests and four from Moot, the pubs own brew which were top class). About half a mile from railway station and main part of town, however the proximity of the bus stops to the pub (50 yards) meant with a little planning the walk from town could be avoided. All in all 10 out of 10 and highly recommended.
Can't in all honesty find anyththing I didn't like about the Red Lion. One consideation if you are using public transport, (like I did), is that The Red Lion is a good half mile from the railway station and main part of town, however the proximity of the bus stops to the pub (50 yards) meant with a little planning the half mile walk from town could be avoided.

I didn't have breakfast in The Red Lion. I had to travel to Swadlincote, on the Leicestershire border on Friday, & I just bought some food from the shops for my journey on the buses & trains, to get there. I noticed they have a pool table now, which I like, but I never had any time to play it. The prices are very reasonable for a short break, & it's not too far from the shops in Matlock. I also travelled into Cromford. I have friends who live there. They had a good bar as well.
Everything was fine. It suits me to book The Red Lion the next time I travel down from Scotland, if it's available. ( p.s. I can't add photo's. I didn't take my camera with me).

The food in the pub is fantastic quality - all freshly made to order and not stupidly overpriced like similar establishements i have been to. Breakfast was plentiful and again great value for just £10 which included unlimited hot drinks and toast. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is perfect just on the edge of the main town but only 10-15 minutes walk. Would definitely stay again
The only very minor point is the bsthroom could do with a holder for toilet roll and a small shelf in shower for your shampoo etc. This would not put me off staying again and is just a suggestion

Excellent location for walking in the area and getting to Matlock, Matlock Bath and Cromford, all within walking distance. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The room was comfortable and had all that we needed. We had dinner every night we were there because it was exceptional and being a vegetarian I was impressed with the choice and quality of the food, I actually had something different each night (for 4 nights) which is something I normally struggle to do.
Breakfast was a bit underwhelming, no fruit, pastries or yoghurt but it wasn’t too bad considering the amount we paid which included breakfast.

Really lovely pub with accommodation within easy walking distance of Matlock centre. Lovely tasteful decor throughout the pub. My room looked as though it was recently updated, and loved the table lamp base which had different size USB charging points. Didn’t need to use my charger at all. Good size single room - although it was described as ‘small single’ I regard it as a standard single. Staff were lovely nothing was too much trouble. Excellent breakfast, with very generous portions. Will definitely stay there again if I return to Matlock again. Great value for money.
Nothing to dislike.

Lovely pub/hotel extremely clean throughout, comfortable large four poster bed in a good size room. Bathroom was sleek and modern with really good walk in shower. All the staff were so polite, friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant both nights and couldn't fault both the food or the service. They carry a good range of drinks including various cask ales. Its really well placed at the edge of Matlock town and was an easy stroll 5 minutes or so, we went through the lovely park into the main town area. The pub itself has a lovely welcoming feel to it, is dog friendly and is used by locals as well as guests, everyone being friendly. It also has a really well thought out attractive beer garden at the back and a small carpark. Would definitely stay there again and have already recommended it to friends and family.
Nothing everything was excellent

We enjoyed our two night stay very much. This is a down to earth pub, with friendly hard working staff dealing with, what appeared to be, mainly local customers. We chose to eat in the restaurant both evenings where the food was freshly cooked to order and served piping hot. Our room was comfortable and the shower was amazing. The local church bells seem to ring every 15 minutes, even at night, which did impact on our sleep. However, that's clearly beyond the pub's control. The location was ideal for the things we had planned to do in the area and we were able to park in the patron's car park throughout our stay without difficulty.

Superb value for money. We stayed in Room 6 which was spacious, comfortable and well furnished. Slept really well and was quiet once the pub had closed. Large bathroom and walk in shower. Breakfast was excellent value. Hosts very friendly and welcoming. Thank you for a great stay.
Tiny details- we didn’t need all the chairs and more lighting would be good.

This is a refreshingly good old fashioned local pub, the atmosphere in the bar was superb, staff and regulars were all very friendly. The pub layout was exceptional; an area for games, a lounge area, a restaurant and outside areas to front and back - areas to suit every taste. The room was comfortable, clean and well maintained. The evening food was good and the breakfast was simple but brilliant - tasty, well-cooked and just what we wanted. Would highly recommend the Red Lion to one and all.
Nothing to report here!
