The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. I have a handicap and the host very kindly cut my bacon up for me. The bed was lovely and comfortable. I was most impressed when I asked my host for information about taxis to take me to the station on my last morning and he said not to worry about it, someone would run me down. I also really appreciated the bottles of lovely cold water in the fridge. I would definitely recommend The Gables Guest House. Thank you very much for a lovely stay

Good location, friendly and helpful hosts. Warm welcome when we arrived. Small carpark. The whole place was spotlessly clean and the decor was tasteful and calming. Breakfast was very good,a good choice. Locally sourced food. Lots of local information available and a comprehensive welcome book. The room was very good, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also very clean with plenty of towels and an excellent shower.. The mini fridge was a bonus, fresh milk and water provided. Plenty tea/coffee. Good hairdryer. Our view was of the back garden. Warm room, slept well. It was very quiet. Short walk to the nearest pub which did excellent meals. Good circular walk from the property with amazing views from the lounge Would happily stay again, highly recommended
A very steep road up to the property, which was an adventure . The turn into the carpark was tight, much easier to reverse in or drive a little further up the hill and turn around so you can drive into it.

A warm friendly welcome with tea and cakes on our arrival. The views are amazing, we had a suite with a seating area looking over Matlock. Everything we needed was in the room including bath robes and a mini fridge with water and fresh milk. We loved the location and there are walks from the doorstep. Pubs and eateries are a 10-15 minute walk down a steep hill. We ate in the Red lion and The Remarkable Hare both highly recommended. We did get an Uber back up to the b&b in the evenings which was worth every penny! Breakfast was lovely with fresh fruit, cereals and the usual cooked breakfast.

The Gables is such a lovely place. From walking through the front door, the hosts make you feel at home. The little touches like remembering our breakfast order & drinks on the second day & the breakfast was beautiful. We enquired about other rooms & we were shown round every room. This place is a little gem, along with the staff & I wouldn't hesitate recommending & would definitely return. Nothing at all to fault, a brilliant & relaxing few days away which is what we wanted.
Nothing to fault at all. We wished we could have have stayed longer.

The breakfast was a full English and was amazing, everything you would expect with white and brown toast...very substantial and filled us up ready for the day ahead. The view from our room was breathtaking and the room itself was huge with a beautiful large bathroom with bath and walk in shower, everything you need including fresh milk in the fridge and bottles of water, absolutely 10 out of 10
Absolutely nothing could be better, our stay was perfect

Wonderful hosts. Breakfast was delicious, good produce used, and a great choice. Rooms were very well furnished and comfortable, breakfast room and sitting room were lovely, and the outside space with garden furniture was much appreciated, the weather was warm and sunny so we were able to sit outside after our walks and days out, chatting to other guests. The views over surrounding countryside and the cable car were stunning, and there were good walks from the door, and lots of information and advice from our hosts.
The road up to the property was steep with sharp bends, but worth the effort.

Fantastic location, amazing views, lots of great places to visit nearby and we didn't always need the car to get there. They had recommended walks from the house and we could even walk to the cable car. Sue and her husband could not have been more helpful. On our first night, after a long drive we decided not to venture far and instead ate a picnic on the terrace watching the sunset over the valley below. They kindly gave us some tomatoes to add to food we already had. Other nights they recommended great local places to eat. Breakfasts were the best we've had at a B&B and included, fruit, yoghurt, toast, full English( we had the vegetarian option) juice and coffee, all yummy. The room was well equipped, with Kettle, tea/coffee, biscuits and even had a fridge with fresh milk. Bathroom was well equipped, good, hot and powerful shower. Towels and bathroom robes all provided. Overall an excellent and welcoming base to explore the Peak District.
The only word of warning is the road to the house, it is, as others have said scarily steep with hairpin bends. Would recommend that it is approached via the back roads from Tansley so you arrive down hill rather than up! Tansely has the added benefit of having the Gate Inn, a great place to eat and one recommended by Sue at the Gables. Otherwise nothing not to like, it is a fantastic place!

A warm, friendly welcome from two obliging hosts, quiet comfortable facilities and hearty breakfasts. The views across the valley are, no doubt, inspirational when the weather is clear - which, sadly, it wasn't while I was there!
The Gables is not the easiest of places to find, especially since one possible access road is permanently closed to traffic following a landslip. Neither is parking the most convenient; although offroad, private and exclusive, it's about about 50 yards down the narrow hill, which is quite a treck in inclement weather - as it was during my visit! Nevertheless, a small inconvenience for the relatively fit, and those with mobility problems can probably negotiate to park in the small private drive outside the main door.

Breakfast was great. Room was lovely, bed v comfortable. There was a lovely seating area for guests with views over to Abraham Heights which really was fantastic, spent a good few hours there reading. Coffee and Cake was a lovely touch when we arrived.
Its quite a steep route down to either Matlock or Matlock Bath. We did walk it there and back during the day as its quite a nice path down to the cable car but decided that we didn't fancy doing it when we went down to the pub for food at night, it was more the walk back up after a meal. On a plus side the car parks seem to be £1 for the rest of the night after 18.00 down in the town, Its not really a dislike and it wouldn't put us off going back as we had such enjoyment from the views.

The Gables is perfectly situated in the hills behind Matlock, close to so many of the Peak District highlights. Our hosts Sue and John could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The guest dining room and lounge has the most stunning view across to the hills and Heights of Abraham. We highly recommend The Gables B&B.
Just a word to the wise - the drive up to The Gables is not for the faint-hearted particularly in the dark - but after a couple of times, it's actually part of the attraction!
