Everything was good but not quite “excellent”. It wouldn’t have taken much to make it really good.

The hotel lets itself down by skimping on the toiletries and catering. We had two tiny bottles of unknown brand shower/hair liquid and a small soap. Why not ask a local supplier to provide NICE products? Use refillable dispensers to avoid theft and cut waste. Tea/coffee options were lowest price, as were the one packet of biscuits (from Cost-Co?). Sadly, although the breakfast was cooked nicely the other options were from the 1970s - dusty tired cereals and weird additive-heavy lemon yogurt. I bet there is a local dairy that could supply much better and give the place a proper local welcome. That said, the room was great and the staff were lovely so we may well revisit. Hope you read my thoughts and push the boat out a teeny bit further.

The breakfast was wonderful, all freshly cooked top quality produce which was beautifully presented. The hotel was immaculate in every area with caring attention paid to every little detail throughout. Beautifully decorated with modern, comfy lounge/ bar area. Our bedroom was large and bright with nice fresh modern decor. The staff could not have been more polite or helpful. The grounds were well maintained and there was ample parking. A gem of a hotel which I wholly recommend.

Fantastic 'mine host' on arrival, chatty and enthusiastic about our stay and what awaits us. The decor overall in every room we saw was well planned with lots of 'wow factor'. We had been reserved a table for breakfast over looking the garden which was great . The cooked breakfast was hearty and plentiful, many different options and with plenty of fresh coffee, tea and toast.

There was nothing not to like. Currently no evening meal service but plenty around the area to choose from.

- Breakfast great for gluten free. Toast grilled separate to avoid contamination. Was great to have the option of a sausage as usually you can be told that the sausages are not gluten free. The mushrooms were so yummy! - Comfy bed & bedding. The room felt very cosy & I loved the old Victorian feel to the building. - Staff were absolutely lovely :)

The bacon was a little bit undercooked at breakfast. Would definitely ask for it to be well done next time. - My room was above the kitchen area at the top of the stairs so a lot of noise could be heard when prepping for breakfast early AM.

Location good, cleanliness very good and helpful staff. Room pleasant.

Electric shower poor not very powerful. Car park too tight and too many vans in overflow. Somebody had parked across two bays at the side of reception. Had to park in a bay not suitable for my estate vehicle that meant it stuck out slightly so feared it might have been pranged but fortunately it wasn’t.

Excellent location for our purpose, very hospitable owners and staff, lovely period building which had been lovingly restored and was in excellent condition. Excellent full english breakfast in the morning. Lovely outside space.

Bed was a little soft for my wife (has a bad back, so needs a firm bed), and shower a bit cramped and low pressure, but neither of these things would put us off returning if in the area.

Such a lovely hotel small but beautifully decorated. Nice room overlooking the delightful garden even at this time of the year it was beautiful. Staff were so nice I will definitely return

We asked for a twin room but the hotel had been informed by booking.com we requested a double room. The staff arranged for a ‘put you up’ bed not ideal but there was no other room available.

Friendly staff, beautiful hotel, clean, the rooms are very nice, lovely breakfast, just an all round wonderful stay. I have stayed here a few times now after staying at other hotels in the area and this is by far the nicest place I have stayed. Very quiet and welcoming, ideal place for someone travelling alone as you are made to feel welcome and at ease by the staff. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here.

There is not anything to not like.

Great value. Met our needs for a comfortable night close to Capesthorn Hall. Staff were friendly. Allowed us to check in and drop bags off early to fit in with our time scales for the day - very accommodating. Rooms were lovely. Cleanliness great. Nice breakfast. Beautiful garden.

Bathrooms were very clean and of a decent standard but even better if the shower area was more up to date.
