Traditional Inn located in very picturesque localisation. Beer (including local ales) and food available on the ground floor.

Our room had windows overlooking the kitchen courtyard with a working noisy fan. You could close the window and use the air conditioning, which made a whirring sound every few minutes. Really we had a hard time sleeping. I reported this problem to the staff, who confirmed that the air conditioning was working this way and would pass it on to the air conditioning service. For three nights, we kept hearing "brrr" sounds overhead. I wonder if other rooms had this problem too, or if it was just us.

Location of hotel brilliant. Near the lake and 10 minutes walk to village centre. Breakfast very good. Real ales good. Evening meal good though partner disliked her choice of meal which was Cumberland sausage! Room had nice view of grounds and lake. Grounds lead right down to the lake. Nice walk across to the lake and boat hire and departure place for boats touring the lake including the Gondola boat. Staff very friendly from Callum on check in, to Mike on check out. Several Aussie staff. All seemed good lads and a special mention for Laughlin ( apologies for probable misspelling), who was a very friendly young Australian guy serving behind the bar. Weather prevented us from using the outside seating area but its looks nice and I’m sure is very popular when weather allows.

Sometimes there was no one available behind the bar to deal with hotel or bar matters and one had the impression they were a bit light on staffing. However, any delay was relatively minor and the staff were very good when you had them in front of you.

Beautiful hotel! Stunning location with the grounds and lake and close to the village. The room was big and came with coffee/tea and buscuits too. Huge bath tub. Friendly staff on arrival really chatty and informative. Had dinner at the restaurant in the evening - good selection and tasty food. Lovely lounge area near bar with games. Had breakfast included which had a great selection of continental and cooked food as well as you could order off the breakfast menu that was included! Fab value for money and will definitely be back.

Location was perfect. The second room was fine - had a lovely view and it was clean and a good temperature. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was tasty and plenty of variety.

The first night room was extremely hot, we thought we could put the AC on to cool it down but the AC had a weird vibrating noise waking us up every 5 minutes so we had to live with the heat for the first night. We requested a new room for night 2, it was a much better size, with a view and a perfect temperature. The staff were very accommodating about this, but do not think that the first room was fit for purpose.

Great location, fabulous breakfast, helpful staff

The air conditioning made a racket that woke us up periodically in the night. We would have turned it off but the room was exceptionally hot - heat came up through the floor. It’s a great hotel but staff could do with being just a little more organised. We booked packed lunches but they weren’t ready the next day and weren’t able to give us the foods we selected. That’s ok - we understand deliveries don’t come and that’s out of people’s hands but let us know rather than when we come to collect the lunches and there aren’t any!

Great location, lovely building , very kind people, nice food and local drinks. The accessible room was super spacious and there is a lift to the upper floors. The surranding views are spectacular and the hotel has direct access to the lake, which offers a lot of activities. We were pleased to learn that the hotel also has a bike store, so we could just store there our bikes on our 3 days stay. There is a perfect rout around the lake for cycling with small traffic on the west side and literally no traffic on the west. On our return to the hotel we had some snacks and refreshing drinks in the garden and enjoyed the fabulous views. We will definitely return!

The bathroom was a bit tired, although it was perfectly wheelchair accessible.

Beautiful location, stunning views, friendly staff, good decor, good quality food & very comfortable room. Well behaved dogs are welcome and it was great to see them in the bar area with their owners.If staying for more than one night you receive a voucher that can be used for a free evening drink each, if you choose not to have your room cleaned the following morning.

Some of the seating areas in the bar were a bit cramped and the majority of seating was a bit uncomfortable for relaxing, the small quiet room where pets aren't allowed has slightly comfier seating but the seating could be more so. Obviously wanting to cater for as many people as possible!

The first-floor superior room was comfortable and has great views. It has plenty of room to accommodate a large dog and its bed. The food in the restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast is now a convenient self-service buffet which caters for the "full English" but was well prepared. Any other breakfast requests though, e.g. porridge or scrambled eggs, can still be ordered at the bar and brought to the table. As the weather was good for March, we were able to sit out on the lawn and enjoy the view and tranquility. We choose the Coniston Inn partly because it is so dog friendly though the charge per night has increased 50% since 2022 but I suppose that's understandable.

Didn’t feel like a 4 star hotel - thought this was a bit misleading when booking

Beautiful location and lovely building. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Free drinks if you don’t have maid service. Great breakfasts and lovely dinners. Plenty of free parking. A room with a view is worth it, we had a view of “The Old Man” and waterfall or there is a lake view. Very close to the Bluebird cafe and the lake with all sorts of water activity including rowing boats, kayaks and motor boats e.t.c. you can take out yourself or boats you can sit on and listen to a guided tour. If you’re interested in Donald Campbell, the lake tours will tell you all about him and “Bluebird” is nearby in Coniston in the Ruskin museum and his resting place is behind “The Crown Inn” Coniston . There are other pub restaurants nearby, choose wisely. If you want a bit more bustle then make a visit to Ambleside and Windermere. There are obviously lots of walks.

We had an extra large bed in a double /twin room. So, this is the twin beds pushed together which leaves a ridge down the middle. While you’re both sleeping on your sides of the bed it’s no problem, but if you plan on doing anything else you need to do a lot of manoeuvres to avoid the ridge 😏, but don’t worry, the rest of the room is big enough for all activities 😉😏
