Found the hotel and parking was no problem. I walked into the property which felt like home. A little dark but the atmosphere was calm and lovely. I was greeted by a warm welcome from the owner and soon booked in. I was shown to our room (room 7) which on inspection was floorless. A beautiful room, clean tidy with an awesome aura about it. Room were closed to the car park which was great as we had a dog. Next to the hotel is a. Community green field you can exercise your dog in. (Please pick up any poop left by the family friend!). The room was comfortable and easy access was gained to the hotel via the back door. Staff were fantastic and every one was professional and friendly. Quality of beer on tap was nice and the friendly calm atmosphere was so relaxing. Food was exceptional and the wine list excellent. Breakfast was super and just what you wanted for a busy day walking, hiking or travelling. All staff were willing to talk and spent time with you. A fantastic place to stay with 10 out of 10 🌟 s for everything. I especially enjoyed the red wine with the exceptionally well cooked steak. Thank you for one of the best stays I've had The Firtree Hotel. I can't recommend it enough. I will be back when travelling from Scotland south to visit family.

Room was very clean and modern with everything you need. Even had a selection of pillows, the soft ones were really comfy as was the bed. Excellent pub serving a good value for money evening meal with a lot of the ingredients being home made (handcut chips, homemade mushy peas and tartare sauce to name a few) as well as a lovely piping hot freshly cooked full English brekkie the following morning. Staff couldn't do enough for you, everyone I met was friendly and went out of their way to be helpful as well as making sure I'd enjoyed my stay when I checked out.

As soon as I entered the hotel I was welcomed warmly, it had a very cosy vibe to it and the staff were very efficient and friendly, and given my late-in-the-day arrival it was welcome. The room was a courtyard style room and had plenty of space, it was exceptionally clean and had everything I needed to hand, however the real treat was the evening menu, what a feast for the eyes that was and the dishes did not disappoint. Dinner was exceptional value for money and absolutely delicious. I have recommended this hotel to all who will listen and I will absolutely be back to stay on my next trip up north.

Lovely and clean and the bedding was excellent with a choice of hard and soft pillows. Plenty of hot water and the TV selection was good. The staff are lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was good with a nice choice and freshly cooked. The meals in the pub are excellent. Tea and coffee and biscuits were in the room. I indulged in a hot chocolate. We did not have a car as we had family shuttling us about. Location is nice but I think you need a car really to get about. A great place as a base for sightseeing in beautiful Durham.

Only a tiny cooler. On checkout day morning the Inn was closed. When we checked out we had to wait in the car park until we were collected. This may have been a one day thing and the morning staff were apologetic and offered us a lift to Crook. It was just something we were unaware of.

The evening meals in the restaurant were amazing and they catered for a party of 9 of us. It was good value and quality.I have to mention the Christmas decoration outside, the staff must have worked very hard to achieve the magnificent winter wonderland. Staff were efficient and friendly.

The awful storm that came. Because the Hotel rooms were situated in a block seperate to the main building, it meant we had to fight the elements of storm deseree which blew us all over and drenched on entering the restaurant in the main building. ( Obviously though it was beyond the control of the hotel )

The staff were lovely, very helpful, friendly & very polite. Evening dinner was excellent with a gud choice, & a great breakfast. Bar & Dining open to public. The room was immaculately clean & the bed very comfy. Gud strong hot shower. Rooms are ground floor level (smart chalet type) with walk-in shower. Tea & coffee in the room with Proper mugs, not those awful little cups. Loved the place - would stay again - (bt wud take my own pillows)

The pillows weighed a ton & were hard as Bricks. (take one of your own with you if u're stayin here)

The staff were very friendly and welcoming and understood why I asked where to park my motorcycle (to keep it safe from others entering and leaving the car park). They left me considering returning the next year when I repeat the journey (the first hotel I've used in 5 years of making this journey I've wanted to).

I can't think of anything, other than a friend was planning to meet me there, but was unable to due to a migraine! Try again next year.

Very warm welcome and taken to our room, rather than just being sent in the direction. Room facilities/controls explained to us and told that feather pillows were there if we preferred them, the bed was very comfortable (great for those who prefer a firmer mattress). The room had a very well stocked hospitality tray, lots of choice and enough of each to allow more than one beverage per person. Very nice toiletries supplied in the bathroom. Ample parking, close to the rooms and Good WiFi coverage. Great food available in the restaurant throughout the day, although best to book for the evening if wanting to dine before 7pm

Only criticism is that, as others had already checked out and we were staying,it was expected to be able to clean/service the room at the same time as the vacated ones. This didn't work for us, as we were still using the room, and as a result it wasn't serviced/cleaned that day. Whilst it isn't a deal breaker, it did cause inconvenience to us
