Location, including access to bus travel into town and beyond. A very good restaurant on site. Outside seating.

It would have been helpful to have a safe and a small fridge in the room.

Good location, very clean and comfortable room. Dogs are very welcome including a wee welcome pack, and there’s a couple of great walks close by as well as an enclosed garden area for them. Staff were friendly and dinner and breakfast very good with a nice selection available.

The rooms aren’t well soundproofed and it can be really noisy. Our first night was perfect, but the second night a coach load of tourists arrived who were on the go from 5am…and when you’re in a ground floor room you can hear everything above (loud voices; squeaky floorboards). Plus the metal stairs/walkways are super noisy and echoey with wheely bags so not the best start to the day as it took about 2.5 hours for them all to check out 🤦‍♀️The staff were apologetic and very kindly comp’d our breakfast for us…but just something to be aware of.

the staff can't do enough for you. The breakfast was wonderful every day, choice was amazing, so much so, my hubby had a different cooked option for breakfast every morning. The chef is the most friendly and attentive person I have ever met in a hotel. each and everyone of the staff have been great. Faultless. the facilities are good, beautiful function room, (we didn't use, but had a nosey) great space for family gatherings and corporate meetings/ team building sessions. The rooms are well equipped with everything you could need. I would have liked the twin beds(together as a king size) to have been zipped together, it would have been more comfortable. Lovely coffee machine, but would recommend the availability of decaff pods. There was entertainment outside on on Sunday afternoon 2.30 till 5. Unfortunately we didn't see or hear any advertisement of this until 2 pm that day. Hense, not many customers turned up. The same can be said for Sunday roast, delicious dinner, all the trimmings and more, but again, not many takers as not advertised outside of the establishment, not outside the property or online. I believe there would be more foot fall with a little more advertisement of this wonderful little gem of a hotel and restaurant. All that said, I'd be back in a heartbeat. Great transport links into Bishop Auckland itself, Durham and Newcastle. Didn't use the car once! Overall marvelous break away.

going home!

We booked for 1 night at short notice. Although it looks a bit unprepossessing as you turn into the hotel off the main road, don’t despair! We were very taken with this hotel, its staff, restaurant, rooms and grounds. It’s very convenient for the Locomotion museum at nearby Sheldon, for Durham and Beamish a little further away. We had a first floor room with en-suite shower room. It was very nicely decorated and clean. The shower had very good water pressure. The staff were all very helpful and welcoming. The dining room was roomy and relaxed. The evening meals we had were excellent, the breakfast was fabulous.

A bit nitpicky perhaps. When we stayed in June 2025, daytime temperatures were high 20s Centigrade and sunny but also thundery. We found the room got quite hot at night even with the windows open but we learned in the morning that the hotel does have fans that you can borrow.

The hotel is tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean. Me and my mum stayed one night in the main building. The room was large, with tea and coffee making facilities, the beds were sooo comfortable. No complaints whatsoever, it was quiet, and very clean. The male member of staff (with the irish accent) was extremely helpful, answered any questions, we had dinner in the bar area, where dogs are allowed, and they even had dog treats on the bar and fetched water for her. They are very dog friendly. Food was good and a nice friendly atmosphere in the bar.

On leaving in the morning we were told there was a charge for the dog. At no point does booking.com ask you to pay for a dog so please be aware . I find the price of £30 for one night expensive considering we only paid £25 each.

The hotel was exceptional value for money. Many large brand value hotels are in fact not value for money. Park Head hotel is excellent! The decor is modern, warm and tasteful. The bedrooms are spacious and practical without feeling cheap. Having a lobby door before your main room entrance door is a great idea as no passing noise from other rooms. The corridors are not over crowded. The bar/restaurant area was modern and comfortable.

Unfortunately we arrived late so the kitchen had just closed. A light order bar menu would be a welcome addition to the food offer A range of ambient bar snacks would also be highly recommended...only crisps available and only one flavour available.

The staff were helpful and friendly. Plenty of parking including electric charge points. The food in the hotel was tasty. The room was small and simply furnished, but clean and fuctioned well. The bath room was very nice and the shower was excellent. Good to have tea and coffee and biscuits, plus toiletries provided. I thought it was really good value for money and really appreciated the rooms cleaniliness especially and the friendly staff.

I was a bit concerned about pulling the large TV out from the wall, it looked a little unstraight when i did this and i didnt want the brackets to break, so I ended up not watching TV because of this. Coffee bags (like teabags but with coffee :)) would be be very nice, rather than just instant coffee.

Good for work and a nights stay. Easy to find location. Room was clean and tidy and warm. Shower was clean. The breakfast was absolutely perfect and catered to vegan menu. One of the best breakfast I had recently. The room itself had good WiFi and basic amenities like toiletries, kettle and tea/coffee. Good value for money.

I was given the disabled friendly ground floor room which was fine but could hear lot of noises from the adjacent room. Not entirely sound proof. The car park area was very icy due to the cold weather and at one point dangerous to walk up to the reception. It would be good to have the staff clear the ice during harsh weather conditions

We loved our stay at Park Head, the rooms were very clean and affordable, and it an American motel vibe which we liked. A nice touch was some outdoor seating which was perfect for the warm weather.

We were a little disappointed by the breakfast, which didn’t match the overall quality and attention to detail of the rest of the accommodation. We were told pastries were no longer available, despite being advertised. Overall fine for the £12.50 price tag, but when we stay again we’ll probably have breakfast elsewhere

The location was ideal for us. The breakfast in particular was great value and overall very good, but their vegan sausages were a bit like "cardboard", they should try Richmond meat free or the "Beyond" range of meat free products. The bed was comfortable. The shower had good pressure. Tea & coffee making facilities are always a bonus.

The blinds on the windows don´t keep out the light sufficiently, so we kept being woken by light streaming through the gaps around the edges at sunrise and as there was no aircon in the room, we had to open the windows, so the breeze blew the blinds open even further, allowing more light in to the room. Also, having the windows open meant we could hear the noise from the nearby A688 main road. The room was cleaned efficiently, but the area immediately outside and around the door to the room was very dirty. There were cobwebs and insect nests on the wall outside the front door and even bird feathers on the ground, none of which were cleaned during our 5 night stay.
