The location was perfect, close enough to Keswick, but far enough to be away from the hustle and bustle. The bar/restaurant area was beautiful - we didn’t eat at the hotel, but did have drinks in the bar & it was lovely. Room was gorgeous.. made all the better by the stunning views from the window. Bed - ridiculously comfortable, just what was needed after a busy day walking! Bathroom - gorgeous!

The only criticisms I could give would be: 1) The shower tray in the bathroom needs sorting out - as soon as you turn the water on, it fills up.. at one point I had to switch it off as the water level rose over my foot and up to the bottom of the shower door. 2) The fan in the bathroom sounds like a helicopter! It was SO loud, we had to switch it off at the wall!

Asked for a cot for a 2 year old, wasn’t in the room when arrived. Asked again before we headed to town for tea (5pm), returned 8pm, still not in room. Chased reception again, received cot shortly after, mesh sides ripped with hole big enough for baby to escape but put against wall to solve issue. Cot had no mattress, so bottom was rock hard. No bedding linen provided or available suitable for cots, expecting my child to sleep directly on bottom of cot as other users perhaps have (hygiene concern??). Took a single sheet from them as all they had and used pillows from chairs to make a mattress! Not great service for families needing cots.

After finding out it was our 1y wedding anniversary we had a complimentary room upgrade from a classic room to a garden suite! The room was really comfortable and lovely. They were very helpful in the restaurant asking the chef details of some of the dishes (am currently pregnant) Really friendly, chatty and helpful staff 😊 particularly the lovely girl in the restaurant (we didn’t get your name!) but you were so lovely and helpful! Beautiful gardens and surroundings - so peaceful/tranquil!

My husband asked for his steak to be cooked medium rare and it came out well done, so unfortunately we had to ask for this to be sent back to be re-done - although the girl was very apologetic for this, helpful and understanding in sorting ☺️ At times the service was a little bit slow in the evening and at breakfast. We had to wait approx 15 mins to get a table in the morning for breakfast

We enjoyed the 3 nights that we dine in. The food was exceptionally good and the menu was changed every day with a wide enough selection. The dining service was very good. The help with our luggage to our second floor room on check in and on check out one of the wait staff who is a nice girl came to willingly help, as there was no able male staff. I am indeed very thankful for her assistance in helping an old guy like me with the heavier luggage.

After a long and difficult drive, we arrived a bit early before 3pm but was not able to check in, until way after 3pm. There was little to no communication nor effort to keep us informed about the room status. We finally checked in at half an hour past 3 after having to keep asking at the reception. I can understand that it can be a busy period, but to keep your guests waiting and guessing, without even any form of apology, I feel is unacceptable. The cleaning of our room on the next day was very late and was not very well done.

Delightful Borrowdale Gates Hotel was really excellent. The location was superb in Borrowdale, the room was newly refurbished and very comfortable. The food was really excellent at Breakfast and at Dinner. The staff were very pleasant and helpful throughout the whole stay. Many thanks

The room never got serviced during our stay.! I needed to pop down to reception to obtain milk tubes and tea bags on two occasions. The 'Please Service this room' card hanger, which I requested, and hung on the door when out walking during the day, down at breakfast, and down at Dinner, did not appear to work?.

Overall we had a very nice stay at Borrowdale Gates. We had a large family room with balcony, which was very comfortable and exceeded my expectations. The facilities were clean and nice, the grounds very pleasant (we loved the sheep outside our room), and the location in the Lake District is excellent. It is easy to get around the Derwentwater area from this location by car or by walking/biking. The dinner was not as amazing as reviews had led me to believe, but it was fine (I wish I had gone with no anticipation). Breakfast was good.

When we checked out, the woman in reception insisted I had not paid (I paid weeks beforehand) and tried to bill me again for the entire stay. It seemed she wouldn't believe me, so I had to open up Booking.com and show my receipt. So, that was a bit strange.

This is without exception the best hotel we’ve stayed in. It was a birthday weekend for my wife and even the typical Lake District weather didn’t damper our time there. A special mention to Poppy, Peter, April and Becky who really went above and beyond to make our stay a fantastic experience. I also have to mention the excellent food - dinner / breakfast service, the chef could teach Gordon Ramsey a thing or two, it was excellent! This is definitely our new favourite place to stay in the Lakes and look forward to our next visit. Dave and Julie

Absolutely nothing, it was fantastic.

The room was immaculate with an excellent view, high quality carpet, an ensuite shower and a separate bath. The hotel even included hot chocolate alongside the standard drinks selection which was greatly appreciated. The cherry on top was the dining. From the organisation of the waiting staff to the food, it was spectacular! I looked forward to each meal and cannot praise the hotel enough. It is idyllically located in a rural setting to the south of Derwentwater. There are a few landmarks within walking distance (i.e. up to 3 hours hike) that are worth visiting.

I'd struggle to find anything worth mentioning without being overtly pedantic and insufferable.

We had a fantastic 2 night stay at the Borrowdale Gates Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and professional – nothing was too much trouble, and they really made us feel welcome. Our room had been upgraded it was exceptionally spacious, clean, and very comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing break and the views were incredible. While we didn’t dine in the hotel for lunch or dinner, the breakfast each morning was absolutely lovely – fresh, well-prepared, and a great way to start the day. The setting is stunning too, right in the heart of Borrowdale. Highly recommended.

Room 24 has an awkward bathroom. Toilet needs to be moved so door opens Room a bit hot at night. Would have liked to have been closer to a local pub or had a more casual setting in the hotel as well as fine dining Lovely to have dinner on one night, but fine dining 2 nights in a row is a bit too much. Having some bar food as an option one evening would have been good. I love desert but didn't like the menu options on either night we ate there so was a bit disappointing. So variation on the classics like an upmarket crumble would have been nice Overall a good hotel though
