Charming authentic gourmet pub. Fantastic breakfast! It is above a great pub -but the rooms are totally soundproof. Fantastic value

The bath
On arrive there is a very unsightly looking unused part of the hotel to the left of the main entrance. It would seem this is used for storage, you can see straight in through the double glass doors. Somewhat surprised that this isn’t covered so it’s out of sight. An inexpensive blackout blend would have been sufficient. The carpet on the stairs is also loose and an accident waiting to happen. To add some balance the hotel overall is good and I would stay again.

Excellent location opposite the railway station. The lively and friendly bar. Quality of the food in the restaurant. Despite being in a busy area the room was extremely quiet. The bed was extremely comfortable
Minor comment the bathroom sliding door would stick closed and could be difficult to open

The original decor finish was clearly to a high standard, but maintenance and upkeep wasn’t good enough and I would anticipate the owners would feel wasn’t good enough. The restaurant was also great, food fantastic, but for a pub very expensive almost 90£ a head (no expensive wine) but I guess that’s the same for anywhere in London
I don’t think that the long standard water damage in the bathroom was good enough for a four star property but didn’t ruin my stay. The broken loo seat that had come off the loo wasn’t great either. When I went to discuss this with reception they kind of shrugged it off. No attempt to fix it, therefore the review…. Maintenance, staff and customer interaction need to improve… then they would be great

Breakfast was amazing, compliments to the kitchen staff, every day we had a delicious breakfast. The man that served us on the first two days was very nice and friendly. The room was clean and in the sizable bathroom there was a nice bath. I like it when hotel rooms have baths.
The water tasted quite a bit like chlorine. It may be that I am spoiled by drinking Dutch tap water for most of my life. The glass bottle of water in our room got refilled with this tap water and this left me slightly disappointed. Again, I am probably spoiled. This was the only negative feedback I could come up with after thinking about it for quite some time.

My stay at The Alma was absolutely perfect everything was seamless and impeccable. I couldn't rate them more highly.
Nothing at all. The only thing that would have been lovely was a few biscuits in the bedroom to have with tea and coffee as after a long drive that would have been lovely but the honesty basket was full of wonderful other goodies but a little packet of biscuits would have been wonderful but this is by no means a criticism just a little suggestion.

Really helpful and friendly staff (except for one person, see next). Clean and quiet rooms and awesome breakfast! We loved Eddie too.
The receptionist Monday night was very unprofessional and really quite rude. We came in at around 11pm our first night and the door was locked. I pulled once and the door gave a little. Thinking it was a heavy door I pulled again before realising it was locked. The receptionist then came out of the little room and stared us down like some UFC fighter before letting us in. He then went on a tirade, saying things like "that's not how you behave in life, is it?" (Like we're some teenagers on a schooltrip) even after I immediately apologised saying I hadn't realised it was locked.. well, that's not how you behave towards your guests. Sorry but that man should not be the "welcoming face" of your hotel.

The hotel is in a great location, right next to the railway station. The immediate surrounding area gives a 'village' vibe, with quirky shops and good quality restaurants. Our room was clean, with a comfy bed. The room also had aircon, which was an unexpected bonus.
The roadway and pavement area was obstructed by roadworks during our visit. This was noisy during the day, but didn't affect us at night time.

Clean comfy room, excellent bed, tea/coffee facilities, honesty bar and snacks and air con. Good toiletries.Pub with rooms, handy for food and drink, but also the room was quiet. Opposite the train station good for transport links, stayed here as struggled to get anything in central London. Would definitely stay again.
Nothing apart from London prices, wherever you stay is costly these days
