This beautiful B&B was simply divine . We were lucky to stay on a super warm day so enjoyed the wonderful terrace and garden to the rear. The planting, seating and general atmosphere made us feel we were on an Italian mini break!! We had G&Ts in the garden before heading into town for supper. Breakfast was beyond amazing and served by the two wonderful owners. Nothing was too much trouble. We spend a lazy hour just savouring this moment . The house is Georgian I believe and was full of original features. Our room was huge and beautifully decorated with wonderful artwork collected over the years . If you ever come to Newark you simply must stay here. Forget hotels, forget staying by the river. This is gem of a place . Many thanks for sharing your home with us .

Nothing, it’s a slice of heaven

This beautiful property is run by two wonderful gentlemen who obviously take pride in what they do. Pablo showed us around his gorgeous garden at the rear of the house. John was so friendly and chatty. The breakfast was well presented and excellent. The furnishings are period and classy and the twin room was very spacious. We walked a very pleasant walk into town and sat by the river and then stopped for food at Oscar's just a five minute walk (for us) from the house. If we were ever passing this way again it would definitely be our port of call.

Not long enough stay!

Third trip to the Lions! It is a beautiful place to stay and is immaculate. Pablo & John are fabulous hosts, they really make everyone feel welcome. The bedrooms are comfortable and exceptionally clean with beautiful views of the garden. Breakfast offers so much choice, today I had fruit salad and avocado on toast which was delicious but there is full English, vegetarian and plenty of other options. We really enjoyed our stay.

There is nothing that I didn't like. I would go back again and recommend to others.

Pablo and John are friendly and welcoming hosts. The property is historic and beautifully furnished with a lovely garden. The hosts were kind enough to offer me a welcome drink and advise a nice Vietnamese place for dinner. No road noise at the back of the house. Free parking in front driveway (tight). Great breakfast!

The Wi-Fi didn’t seem to work in my room. Noise was audible from guests in the garden and rest of house in the evening but being an old house this is understandable.

Nice room, big and comfortable. Bottled water offered for free. Tea coffee biscuits also. Easy to find the place. Appreciate the warm welcome by John and Pablo, who are running the place. It was good the Gin Tonic!!! Breakfast rich and delicious, especially the home made jams. Served in the beautiful dining room with classic music is really an excellent experience. The bathroom big and with hot water plus the clean towels and the bathrobe. Lighting in general very romantic.

I need more light to read in the bed. wi-fi had problems and the new provider should fix them.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest welcome — the hosts were absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. The room was charming and super comfortable, and the location was spot on — just a short stroll to the town centre, which made everything so easy. Breakfast was a real highlight too — freshly cooked, full of flavour, and served with such care. We felt genuinely looked after throughout our stay. Highly recommend and would definitely come back!

The hosts, John and Pablo were delightful, warm, welcoming and friendly. They have a beautiful property, we only accessed our room and the dining room and these are beautifully furnished with attention to detail. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding of an excellent quality. Breakfast was high class, a lovely setting, great food and the table was beautifully set and appreciated. We had a 10/15 minute walk into Newark.

I acknowledge that I am 'picky' so this is just probably me, the room would have benefitted from a flick around with a duster.

Lovely warm welcome. The Lions is beautifully decorated and maintained. We had a very nice twin room overlooking the charming garden. It was quiet and the beds were comfortable. Coffee, tea and water were provided in the room and we enjoyed sitting in the cosy lounge. We were leaving before breakfast and Pablo provided us with a container with delicious fresh fruit and smoked salmon and avocado sandwiches that made the early start and (sadly) chaos on the trains, more bearable!

My car was too wide to get through the gate to park in front of the Lions but there was parking on the road outside. Otherwise, we couldn’t fault our stay.

This is a really special place. I travel an awful lot and rarely remember, or am moved to write reviews, but The Lions is different. Run by John, Paulo and their cat Luiz, this early Georgian red brick villa is beautifully decorated- the fittings and furniture are things you’d be happy to have in your own home, and that might not sound a big deal, but it makes a big difference. Like the sausages at breakfast - proper sausages, not the type you normally get in hotels and B&B’s. Paulo’s homemade jam is excellent, and I’m not sure who is responsible for the garden, but I think half the David Austin catalogue is in there, beautifully arranged as you’d expect. My favourite bit of my stay though was how immensely genuine and likeable the hosts were. I tend to book hotels rather than B&B’s for fear of feeling like I’m intruding, but I always felt completely welcome and at home.

The location was perfect for walking into the town centre. The hosts Pablo and John were very welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfast was lovely. Our room was the deluxe double, which was a spacious room, very clean, with a comfortable bed, decor was lovely, and had a bath and a shower. After check-in, we were invited into their beautiful garden for a welcome drink, I had a glass of wine, and my wife had a gin and tonic before we headed out to explore. We would definitely stay here again.
