The hotel is countryside modern. Welcoming staff. Private off road parking which feels safe. Food at dinnertime delicious. The steak is fabulous. Prices for food are good for being off road. The room we stayed was clean, spacious, airy and nicely decorated. The breakfast in the morning included in the very reasonable price we paid for bed and bfast is a clean plate of food English bfast. Well worth the money for 3 of us and very comfortable lovely hotel to put your head down for the night when you're on a road trip and just popping in for dinner alone is a good experience. Thankyou to all the staff who made us feel welcome and looked after us in the morning. We made it safely home to Glasgow

Nothing to complain about

The room was great, really clean and tidy. Nice large airy room. The bathroom was spotless and the shower fine. The breakfast was great. Exactly how I like it. thanks

The room was too noisy for me (and I thought I had asked for a quiet room). The noise was from the railway across the road (mainline trains running). Also work in the rail yard late on a Sunday. It was also too easy to hear the people next door (I could hear the call the lady made to her daughter when she arrived). They probably heard me snoring!

Breakfast was great. Nice full English, cereal, orange juice and coffee. Room was spacious although toilet cistern leaked non stop. Hotel is very close to train mainline and you absolutely hear every train go past. But you know that when booking. I love the history of the hotel in relation to the railway and canal

For the money I think there could be better options for tea, coffee, etc in the room. Maybe £95 doesn't feel a lot nowadays but the smaller touches are whats important when staying in hotels

Our room was cosy and comfortable, included breakfast was absolutely delicious. My husband in particular really loved the marmalade served and the lady serving us was very helpful in tracking down the brand so we could buy some for home too (excellent to hear it was locally made! Jam was very good too). Bathroom was spotless, shower was a dream. Overall the inn has a charm to it that can only be found in older English buildings - high ceilings and winding stair cases. We had an evening meal in the restaurant one night and the food was excellent.

The stairs were quite steep which was a bit of a struggle for myself and my friend as we're bigger ladies. Our room was on the smaller side but the friends we travelled with were in a slightly bigger room so they do have larger rooms. the floor outside our room was very creaky so whenever someone walked past we heard every step - not really an issue until it came to trying to sleep. Also, as the inn is right next to a railroad, we were often woken up by the train going past - of course no fault of the inn.

I liked the room. It was very clean and the toilet was modern. Kenny and one other man doing early morning cleaning were great in helping me arrange taxi. I am also glad that they helped to secure the items we forgot in our rooms.

I could not get the heater to work so it was a cold for us on the night of our stay. The location is on the outskirts so it was so expensive getting taxi to the university or into town. There was no microwave in the room and the hotel could not assist to heat up my food even after I asked twice in the morning. My kids had to eat a very cold meal.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. Good breakfast included in the price. The room was a little bit basic but did the job, and it was nice and warm, which is important to me. No hairdryer on the first day but they were surprised, there should be one provided and they guessed it had been taken by another guest and it was replaced as soon as they were able to.

Nothing really, the only issue I had was soon put right. There's a railway line directly outside, which could be an issue if you have a room at the front. I did, but I'm a good sleeper. Request a room at the back if it might be an issue.

Delighted by the sit-down breakfast included in the cost of the room. They offered an English breakfast with real sausage or a vegetarian version. Perfect! "One of each, please." I especially appreciated the whole roasted tomato and portabello mushroom that elevated the traditional fare. The plates were beautifully composed, too. I was grateful for the coffee, being jet-lagged. I had two delicious cappucinos. Friendly service in a sunny room made it just that much more enjoyable. Small bites served at our event later in the day were also delicious. Terrific kitchen and bar.

Nothing. Though, getting our luggage up the staircase was a little bit of work. I'm sure if we needed help, we need only have asked. I believe there's no elevator. Double-check if anyone in your party has mobility issues. Overall, I loved it. My only disappointment was having to leave!

What a fantastic place. I was made welcome from the moment I opened the door. Wonderful food, excellent real ale and a lovely place to eat and meet people. I travel a lot and try to book local where I can. Now and again I come across real gems and the Walnut Tree is one. I have NO complaints whatsoever. I'm hoping to do more business in the area just so I can visit again

One thing I didn't like and that was the fact I hadn't booked a second night.

My brother & I came from USA to reunite with our Sister & family. We enjoyed having a long, leisurely lunch with all the family from Northampton on Sunday afternoon. My brother & I enjoyed breakfast the next morning. It was a great stay. We will return if ever there is another opportunity. The fire alarm in the middle of the night was a wake up call! Fortunately, it stopped ringing as I was ready to leave the room & go outside. My brother apparently got up & walked around the entire downstairs before he retired again! The wait staff were very thoughtful. The breakfast person actually came back to warm us about something she was concerned, involved us- it didn’t. Nice basic hotel, lovely breakfast

No mention of train lines literally outside window, with work going on up til midnight. Arrived late as at Silverstone much to the disgust of the man on reception having had trouble checking in us and the other 3 rooms, had already given one man the spare key to a room and he had gone to his room to find another couple in bed asleep.
