A nice family feel pub, with very relaxed vibes Greeted and showed to the room upon arrival. Quiet at night and no nose from the road. Seems to have it's regular 'stayers' which is great for it's reputation. Plenty of safe parking Good menu choice and lovely beer garden. Great size rooms and large shower bathrooms Nice residential village with some country walks for a warm summer's evening.

Small little details were missed from some cobwebs in the corner, and headboards...stained or chipped mugs, and only one sachet of coffee which wasn't replenished the next day. (I am sure these would have been rectified had I asked at the desk, but only highlighting for improvements). The walls are thin, that I could hear the occupant snoring next door, but not so thin i could hear their conversation ( comes with the age of the building) None of this would effect me from staying again.

We picked a town midway between Great Ayton and London as we were returning our hire car to London St Pancras, so we picked Middlesborough as a place to stay. So lucky to come across this accommodation. Staff were great, nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast was filling. Rooms were clean and tidy, we stayed 2 nights and spent the day at Ferry Meadows Country Park, Ham Ln, Peterborough, only a short drive from there. Beautiful part of the UK actually. Finally a real fire place. They had a bar and comfy seating around the large fireplace. Would definitely stay here again.

It ticked all boxes, so nothing we didn't like.

Excellent generally, but slightly let down by comment below.

We had two rooms and when we enetererd our rooms, they were cold & the heating was on minimum. We turned it up, but had no understanding of what to set it on. As a result, in the night it got far too hot. I turned the rads off at 04.30 but this resulted in loud banging & vibration from the radiator systyem which I am aware, was heard in other rooms at that unsocial hour. I therefore think that the heating system needs a little work. It was a shame that this took the edge off our stay, but the staff, facilities, and food was brilliant thank you.

The staff were great & the room was large & comfortable. The food was quite good & we enjoyed the breakfast. Overall very good value.

We were in room 2 which is by the night door exit, so we had a bit of door banging late at night, also the kitchen fan could be heard & started up about 7. I would just ask for a room at the other end of the corridor and you'd be fine, as they are lovely rooms & there wasn't any outside noise which was surprising as it's on the main road.

Booked 30 minutes before i arived, shown straight up to my room and they help with my bag with out me asking. Was given a quick tour of the fire escape route and also given a key for the dedicated external side entrance to come and go as i please ... The room, the staff, lovely shower including all soaps. I paid £68 for there standard room and it was good size with ensuite shower and toilet. Kettle, tea coffee, tv, desk. Multiple lamps, hair dryer and good electric heater and they have central heating too. Nice pub restaurant downstairs in lovely village. Breakfast included in price

We received a warm welcome on arrival and a smooth check in to the room and given information and meal options. The pub had a relaxing friendly vibe. Large clean room with comfortable bed and soft bedding. Good choice of breakfast options. Chose eggs benedict which was freshly cooked. The staff were all friendly and helpful but not annoyingly so.

A small thing, but the large 5 headed decorative lamp in the room.

I ended up at the Black Horse after being stranded at Peterborough due to an LNER situation - I tried booking hotels in town and they had run out of spaces so I randomly chose a reasonably priced one that was accessible - which ended up being the Black Horse. It looked very nice from the photos and lived up to this image - it's a gorgeous place - an old-fashioned inn with a restaurant, bar and rooms, beautifully decorated. The young woman on duty who checked me in (I can't remember her name but she was great) was extremely welcoming, reassuring and accommodating. The dinner was exceptional - the best gluten-free fish and chips I have tasted! (Coeliacs should check if the tartare sauce is gluten free though) It was great to be so warm and well-fed in such a nice environment after being stuck on the train and then a cold platform for several hours. I'd definitely recommend this place. My room was large and comfortable with space to work and a really good shower. They even let me work remotely the next morning teaching music online no bother! (In fact I got a round of applause from the locals in bar next door when I finished :D) Altogether very friendly, comfortable, amenable and relaxed place. The young bar staff were also great - relaxed, resourceful and accommodating. I'd definitely choose to stay here if I was in the area again, absolutely.

Nothing - it was perfect.

It was perfect for my requirements as close to the company we were working in the next day. Everything was of good quality and the staff were very helpful.

Just a bit close to the main road which gave a lot of noise in the evening but it die down later. The breakfast was a bit of a let down compared to the excellent evening meal the night before considering they only had instant coffee and no fruit.

The whole place was absolutely spotless. The staff were lovely. Very welcoming. The room was huge and the bathroom great.. Breakfast was fantastic. Lovely quality ingredients

The evening meal was just your average pub meal. This isn't meant to be a criticism as It was definitely OK. We can't stand brioche buns so ordered burger without the bun. Burger was lovely but chips just your average frozen chips. We'd definitely stay there again. There was a wedding celebration being held which was obviously a little loud but the noise didn't bother us at all.

The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. Facilities in the room were good and the en suite bathroom was fine (nice hot shower - plenty of towels.) Breakfast the following morning was lovely - well cooked and hot and self service section ideal. Staff friendly and efficient.

Sadly although the room was lovely it was directly above the bar/social area and there was a party going on and the noise and vibration carried up to the room itself! Happily it DID stop at around 1130 pm. I wasn't aware that there would be a party when I booked but was advised when I asked what was the latest time I could return to the pub/hotel and was told then that there was a party happening that would conclude around 1115. (It was a bit later than that but as said earlier, was around 1130 when the music/vibration stopped!) So all good in the end.
