Excellent location for our purposes - party at local golf club. Easy walk into town. Staff were very friendly & our room was spotless with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was really good. We would stay again.

Children sitting at the very small, busy bar. Our room had a nice claw foot bath - in the room - would have liked a shower too. It’s a nice feature but not practical for everyone - minor detail.

The Bull and Swan Hotel Stamford is quintessentially the English inn - located close to the splendid Burghley House Estate. Once was local hostelry for the 5th Earl of Exeter whom founded The Honourable Order of Little Bedlam drinking club and each of the bedrooms are named Ram, Greyhound, Lamb, Wild Horse, Badger, Stag and Lyon (the eclectic members - The Baptist Earl of Gainsborough was known as Greyhound, The Hon Charles Bertie was The Stag and The Earl of Denbigh was Tyger amongst other nefarious characters!). Drinking local ales, feasting on Burghley Estate produce and generally created total bedlam. As the four-star Bull & Swan offers the perfect country escape both Rob and Paul ensure your stay is most enjoyable and the sumptuous breakfast is to be savoured!

Sadly, the bar and rooms are looking tired and dated necessitating refurbishment programme which is prerequisite to bring the premises up to the 4* standard once previously appreciated all fresh and new reflecting the historic era.

Our room and breakfast were excellent. Dinner on the first night was delightful. The staff were all most attentive, friendly and efficient. Proximity to the town was perfect as it was just distant enough to ensure comfortable walking to town and distance from it to ensure peaceful evenings.

We've stayed at this lovely little pub in Stamford a few times now, and it never disappoints. The rooms are uniquely designed and comfortable, and the pub itself has a warm, cosy atmosphere with an excellent selection of food and drinks. The outdoor bar and live music was an added bonus that made for a really memorable evening! Breakfast is an absolute delight! Fresh pastries, yoghurt, juice, and a delicious home cooked meal made to order. Just delicious. It really is a fantastic spot for a relaxed, enjoyable stay and great location for wandering into Stamford or Burghley if you have time to explore!

Not much - it really met expectations. The worst I can say is the beer I most liked was off the 2nd day, but that's because everyone had drunk it ;-)

Beautiful room with fabulous roll top bath and walk in shower. There are some thoughtful touches - great coffee machine, delicious homemade cookies in a jar, good selection of teas, bottle of milk in the mini fridge… the staff are really helpful and friendly too and the food in the restaurant is delicious.

Wild Horses really is a twin room so if you are after a double ask to book a different room. Pushing the beds together still leaves a gap in the middle down which to fall as the mattresses slide apart. Although the bedroom and bathroom are well heated, the separate toilet room is unheated with a cold tile floor which would be fine in the summer but probably only suitable for the hardy during winter.

Our room was beautiful with a wonderful carved bed and a roll top bath. The artworks, antiques and carvings in the room were beautiful. We loved the extra little touches like the vintage radio playing Classical music when we arrived and the lovely tea and coffee facilities. The toiletries were very high quality and full size not miniatures. I especially liked that there were bath salts and bath foam available! Dinner and breakfast were both lovely and the inn is so cosy and friendly. We would loved to have tried the ski chalet but we did not have time. We will come again.

Nothing really. The only thing is that the bar is set up largely as a restaurant so there was nowhere much to sit to have a drink.

Only negatives - whilst the lighting set the atmosphere for the room and it really did. It wasn't ideal for doing makeup, hair etc. So I would move the radio and maybe put a lamp there for the ladies. Only other problem was the shower had a constant drip and when you got in it and used the rain shower it came out in a few other places. I'd still give this room 9.5 out of 10!
