We were very disappointed at our dinner in the Oak room but did not complain as we were entertaining guests and did not find it value for the cost. Specifically my partner and I ordered Liver pink but when we tried to eat we both found that the liver had been heavily overcooked and the accompanying 'jus' was highly acidic and we were unable to eat the portions as might have been noted in the kitchens. Otherwise the food was OK Also the service in the lounge was slow as we had to wait for our drinks order to be taken and then our wine to be delivered both after reminders (a half an hour from from the time we arrived!) Generally the service was otherwise fine We will not be visiting the George again

The room was large and airy, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was, as usual, first class with a diverse selection of food available. Staff were all polite and helpful.

Sadly our room was located above the bar area and although there was no interruption to our sleep by way of people there was some sort of machinery which operated all night which did interrupt my sleep. I think it was some sort of glass washer and I will endeavour to not be loacted in that area of the hotel should we visit again.

The room was very nice and comfortable. The front desk was very welcoming when I walked in. The breakfast service was delicious and the staff was excellent.

The hallways had a slight odor , would recommend using some type of air freshener. The dinner service was a disaster. We were not seated at our table. The hostess said pick a table and gave us our menus. Very unprofessional. Two different people took out order which made it confusing. Overall four different people waited on us. However, the silver lining was that the food was delicious!

The hotel was a lovely old building in a pretty village. Parking was great. Room was very comfortable although a very long way from reception! Breakfast was very nice.

Lovely as it was I felt the cost of the room for one night was too much. (Having just come from an actual castle which was magnificent and only just over $100 more for 2 nights left me quite disappointed.) There was also no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which I haven’t come across before…

Superb breakfast, the hotel rooms, buildings and gardens all excellent, a lovely old coaching house hotel with generally a great feel.

Reception staff generally left a lot to be desired, it almost seemed a chore to deal with us. Cocktail list was very short and inimpressive, no whisky based cocktail for a hotel of this standard is poor. It seemed impossible for any of the bar staff to make a simple 'Manhatten' and they refused to do so, on the third attempt after 10.00pm I asked the really helpful lady behind one of the bars to put each of the contents into the same glass and job done!! The main bar was closed before 10.00pm. Having seen the dinner menu we decided to eat out as although the selection was good and I'm sure the quality was also good, it was also excessively expensive compared to many similar hotels we have stopped in.

Service is key here. The service provided by all members of staff was second to none. Being asked at check-in if we wanted coffee brought to our room in the morning was lovely, asked for it at 9am and sure enough, 9 on the dot it was there. Delicious coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice in the morning, no cheap powdered coffee here! Everybody spoke to you very professionally, right down to the chef looking for you and saying good morning as you walked in for breakfast and that just made for a really special stay. But the biggest thing was, having mentioned it was our wedding anniversary, we got a card in the room, and I think we also were upgraded as we were in a beautiful 4 poster room. It was truly a lovely stay!

price of drinks in the bar was quite high, but that is being picky as we expected it at this sort of hotel, as you pay for the service!

Excellent breakfast menu choices of any hotel I have stayed (usually 60-70 a year !!). Lunch/Dinner menus in the Garden room are outstanding and I entertained two business associates who had never had such good calves liver and bacon (11/10 !!) Rooms are traditionally country house style with tasteful period furniture matched by all modern conveniences in room and bathroom. Wide thick mattressed beds with very high quality bed linen. Turndown service in the evening with fresh towels and extra water bottles if required

nothing......keep it as it is that's why we LOVE it !!))

Beautiful old Hotel in the middle of Stamford. We were fortunate enough to be upgraded by the hotel and had two excellent rooms both with sofas and additional seating .Both dinner ( which we ate outside) and breakfast were great. The breakfast was freshly cooked to order and brought to you table not buffet which we liked. Also tea or coffee and orange juice were brought to the room in the morning with a complimentary newspaper. The hotel has lots of areas to sit and relax and beautiful gardens. Staff are all very pleasant & attentive.

We liked everything

We had a meal in the Oak room which we all agreed was excellent as was the service

The decor in the bar especially the lighting and lack of candle light would have given it more ambience. The bedding was far too stiff over starched and just a sheet and a blanket not quite adequate. We had to pay £25 extra for the dog which we couldn’t quite grasp as we were told treats and a bowl etc would be provided which were not. I do think on check out the lady should have asked if we had enjoyed our stay and was everything ok. Could have shown us more warmth both on arrival & departure. The rest of the staff were very good.

We loved our Junior Suite which we had booked for four nights as this year we celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary! The room was sumptuous in every detail, from the comfortable huge double bed to the enchanting and subtle decor of spot painted woodland scenes. We lacked absolutely nothing in the room and if we wanted a cuppa when chilling there during the day after a busy time visiting the richly diverse local independent shops, we could just call room service for their delicious Fortnum & Mason brand pot of tea for two! We thought the last dinner we had there was particularly memorable, and as a special touch, we had a sparkler flare bedecking a tasty little cake with accompanying chocolates to round off our meal. The staff are professional and incredibly helpful, I cannot recommend this place enough. Quintessentially English with all you will ever need for a truly traditional hotel stay!

I can't think of anything. There was nothing the hotel or the services provided that lacked! Maybe there could have been a room service note (as we were not sure if we could order to our room). Since this should go without saying, that's fine, but it would be useful if they had a little charge note or similar for things like club sandwiches, tea, coffee, wines and very light items to eat. This is no criticism however, just a suggestion.
