Very clean room, lovely breakfast, nice touches in the room, good location, nice spa, lovely reception staff and smooth check in experience!

Wi-Fi not the best, some staff (in particular the spa ladies) were quite hostile/moody and paid more attention to guests that had paid for treatments- we were not shown around just given a wristband and pointed to the changing rooms whereas others were given a tour. The bed was two singles pushed together which made an uncomfortable line down the middle when trying to sleep, pillows also very uncomfortable. No lifts were working and many stairs to facilities, fine for us but makes it difficult for those less able- should be made more clearer when booking!

Pretty well everything to like... very helpful and friendly staff, super comfortable king size bed and great ensuite, fabulous breakfast with wonderful views and a terrific evening meal. The spa is delightful although insufficient places to sit/lay at busy times when weather doesn't favour outdoor lounging. Second best of all is the location at the edge of Dartmoor with fabulous walks virtually on the doorstep. Leaving the best to last... is their own crafted Boringdon Hall Gin. To be savoured, very chilled, as it comes with no mixer, but just one cube of ice. P.S don't miss out on their own honey!

The lift from main hall to our room was not functioning; so until it does be prepared for a few flights of stairs. Unless of course you are on a heathy fitness break when the stair exercise suite is a unexpected bonus. Fortunately breakfast was served at a level much nearer to the room. We were not entirely taken by the bath in the room and would have preferred a sofa. Especially when a party of golfers may have seen more than intended when arriving for their putt. This meant the curtains really need to be closed which partially defeats the main attraction of a bath with fab view

The initial impression - the hotel is impressive in it's size and age, the newer parts blend beautifully and the grounds are very well kept. We have never before been offered a seat and a welcome drink at check-in at any British hotel! An excellent first impression! Loved the decor and the way all the grandeur still feels friendly, due to the lovely staff who recognise and remember guests and deal with any queries with courtesy and professionalism. All the facilities are excellent, all the food first class.

Nothing really. The only suggestion we could offer is that the sign at the entrance doesn't actually mention that it's a hotel, which made us wonder if we'd found the right place

The location was perfect and quiet. Enchanted place on the hill! The service was exceptional. The facilities were great. Thank you Mike for everything. We had our baby with us, Mike and his colleagues went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed especially with regard to storing and warming up baby food. Thank you to the team at Acleaf for their exceptional service and World class food. Thank you James and his team at Acleaf. We will come back!

We stayed in the original manor. It was great. The shower/wet room is small so definitely put some towels down to prevent water going everywhere. We should have checked about the spa not allowing babies in the pool, but we managed by taking turns to look after the little one.

This is a stunning hotel that more than met expectations. I cannot fault our stay. Every member of staff was helpful and charming from the moment we arrived. Our room was very comfortable. The spa was a real luxury as was my Gaia treatment. Had an extremely good meal in the Mayflower restaurant one night but the outstanding part of our stay was definitely our Àclèaf experience. Booked to celebrate an anniversary and I can truly say it was wonderful. So much more than just the food which was of course outstanding. The setting, service, everything contributed to a truly memorable evening. Now I get why people rave about Michelin dining!

Nothing I didn't like but WiFi was a bit patchy in our room.

Spa was wonderful, and the Acleaf restaurant - special shout out to Andrea and James from Acleaf restaurant for 5 star service! The bed was very comfy and we absolutely loved the information about the history of the building. The ambience was lovely.

Felt like there was a very high mark-up - in particular on wines and spa services - versus other similar establishments. Our room was also very dusty - fully appreciate it’s an old building but no excuse for e.g. dirty extractor fan or thick layers of dust on top of furniture (hopefully just a one-off but would benefit from a thorough inspection by head of housekeeping!) There was no storage at all in bathroom, which could be easily remedied with even one small shelf etc.

Staff were exceptionally friendly and professional. Property was great, layout was great although lifts being out of service wasn’t very helpful, but understand these things happen.

Spa was very busy seems a lot of day access packages being sold, this meant at times it was very cramped and noisy, not ideal for relaxation. Suggest you manage the number of access passes sold for the day or better police a rule about quiet and tranquil use of the facilities - it wasn’t as relaxing as we had hoped and experienced at other facilities. Bar area could be better laid out so that people coming for a drink before dinner can be seated together. Not many options for couples. But the secret bar is great once we found it 😊

The spa was perfect, amazing, spacious with variety of facilitiies choices. Allowed to have a pool drink was a bonus. The jacuzzi pool was very comfortable and having 2 steam and 2 sauna room was impressive. Fine dining was perfect with reasonable portion well presented. The room has all the facilities required.

No lift to our allocated room reached through 2 set of stairs. No staff service to take your cases to your room considering it was a 5 start hotel. Perhaps the service was available but not offered by the reception desk staff. This was not offered when we checked out either.

Delightful in every way! The attention to detail is so personable. The food standards are very high and the rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. I was welcomed on a hot day and offered a cool welcome drink upon check in. The complimentary offer for a hot drink delivered to the room the next morning was lovely and the turn down service wasn't just pulling back the quilt, they left fresh robe, lavender fudge, popped classic fm on and even tidied away some of our things. The spa was relaxing. It was busy but we managed to obtain some beds to lay on and order drinks via the app. Dinner and service was outstanding, equally so was breakfast. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. I can not wait to visit again!

The different rooms within the spa (sauna etc) could have been a bit cleaner but with the amount of people using it, understandably was probably not as clean as usual.

Stunning. Comfortable room with a fan, iron, fridge, etc. The whole place is beautiful, the decor is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful. The staff were lovely and helpful, and there was always someone around. The cooked breakfast was small but freshly cooked and very tasty. There were plenty of options for things like cereal, croissants, etc, and these were kept topped up. This was a little expensive for us, but would definitely love to stay again!

The only thing that I didn't like were the birds living in the roof. They were pretty noisy, which meant sleep was difficult until they went to sleep. But, it is what it is. It wasn't a huge problem.
