We loved our stay at Fernhill. The location is fantastic, with great views of the harbour from some rooms and the dining room. We were in the older part of the building, lots of character features and a really nice atmosphere. We had dinner once during our stay and the food was superb. The staff team was friendly and very helpful, we had a few requests during our stay and staff members were always very happy to help. We stayed in a superior double room with some extra space, a sofa and table in the window to enjoy the view which was perfect for us. The shower in our room was great, the water pressure was really good! Also a huge bath. Hot water was always available and luxury toiletries provided. There was plenty of parking available when we stayed. There are lots of walks nearby and it's a 5 minute walk down to the harbour area via a pretty steep road. The hotel seemed quite quiet when we stayed, we felt really relaxed throughout and would definitely come back to Fernhil again.

Amazing views from this hotel - you can see the harbour, the town, the hills, and on a clear day, Ireland. There is a small sitting room with a lovely view from the window, and there are sofas in the lobby with an amazing view too. As the hotels in this area are such good value compared to the highlands, I would recommend booking the slightly nicer room - the special/super/delux (I can't remember the name) sea view. The ones with balconies have exactly the same view but are on the lower floor. From this hotel you can travel down to the lighthouse on the Mull of Galloway. You can travel down tne next door peninsular to the Isle of Whithorn. Or you can drive up the Ayrshire coast and have a beautiful view of the Kintyre peninsular and the Isle of Arran.

Beautiful view from the room. Very spacious. Excellent water pressure in the shower, and the bed was enormous and very comfortable to boot! Very welcome after a long day exploring the beautiful area. The restaurant served very good evening meals, and the drinks were good. The views were to die for! It was a pleasure to take the evening sun on the terrace outside and then move indoors to eat in the restaurant and still look out over the harbour. Staff are very welcoming and friendly

The room and furniture are a little tired and busted, which is understandable in such a grand building. If the room offered coasters, even cardboard coasters from the bar, this would help protect the ageing varnished table tops. The sitting chairs have grease marks from the hands and backs of other residents' heads, so we used our own clothes are chair covers so we could sit down. A deep clean and adding chair protectors would help. There is so much space in the room, a small fridge for bottle water and fresh milk would complement the tea/coffee facilities.

Our stay met our expectation having stayed there last year also. The hotel was clean, staff very friendly and attentive and the food exceeded our expectation. We love Portpatrick and we love staying at Fernhill due to its location and views of the village. Fingal our black labrador thoroughly enjoyed his stay too and the cliff top walks are stunning.

Unfortunately we had a storm come in during our stay and we did not get to play golf on the Dunskey golf course as planned but nothing the hotel staff could do about that. We had a more time to enjoy breakfast and facilities at the hotel.

We had a lovely stay here. The check in was fast and we had a lovely room in room 15. The room was huge with a lovely bed and an amazing view of the sea and the local village. The bathroom was ginormous, like something out of the Ritz. We had a very nice relaxing evening, enjoying the view from the room. Next morning we had breakfast which is really good. Overall, really nice stay.

The only thing I will say is that when you’re selecting your muesli, cereals, and croissants, the breakfast team are just basically looking at you as you take stuff and it’s a bit unusual. Looks like they’re standing over you at the bar counter and it's a bit offputting.

We had a lovely one night stay at the Fernhill. We booked the superior seaview room which was spacious with beautiful views over the harbour. The bed was large and comfortable and there was plenty of seating to relax in. The staff at the hotel are all very friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. They even loaned us a pump to pump up our motorbike tyre! The food at dinner and breakfast was good and the vegetarian choices were better than usually offered at some hotels. The choice at breakfast was plentiful. All in all a lovely stay and we would certainly return.

A larger portion of veg at dinner would have been welcomed but this is a minor issue.

Large room with outside patio was brilliant, great to have so much space. Staff were very helpful & friendly. Great selection of fresh foods at breakfast & good choice of hot foods cooked to perfection. Good variety of starters, mains, desserts & cheeseboard on dinner menu, all beautifully cooked, presented & at very reasonable prices. Overall, standards were very high. Been to portpatrick many times but this was the best view ever & only a short walk to the harbour, absolutely stunning views.

Shower curtain was a bit "clingy" & would prefer a shower that could raise/lower height.

Location was great. Food was great apart from the chocolate fondant being solid. Staff were lovely very friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious but old fashioned... that didn't stop us loving the place.

Coffee machine intermittently not working at breakfast. Is it that hard to have coffee pots? Beds too hard and pillows too soft....not my taste but maybe suit others. Didn't sign for any room charges in bar or restaurant and checkout bill not broken down so you really need to be aware of what you charge to your room to be sure bill is correct. A bit over priced considering the facilities.

The view from window is amazing. Nice comfortable bed. Spacious room. Large bathroom with a bath. Other reviews said furniture was ‘tired’. Sure, it’s not new or modern a the wooden furniture is ‘lived in’ but it’s not a new modern hotel - adds to the charm! Soft furnishings were not worn or shabby, just not a modern style. They were all very clean and fresh and I had a great sleep in the room :) Staff very friendly and approachable.

Nothing really … apart from machine coffee at breakfast … And the dinner menu wasn’t appealing - but tastes differ. Breakfast was nice though :)

The staff were exceptional. So attentive, friendly and helpful. The room decor is somewhat dated but spotless. Anything you needed that wasn't immediately available the staff would promptly facilitate. We stayed in the sea view room and what a view it was over the port. Stunning. The location was quiet, easily accessible by car or on foot. No lift but plenty of ground floor rooms.

The food wasn't great. The portions were quite small and the quality wasn't reflected in the price. There are plenty of other places to eat in the town itself though.
