Liked the grounds absolutely beautiful. The staff were friendly . Had a beautiful sleep

The way breakfast is served is not to our liking. You have a time you choose which is good . When you get to the dining hall it is self service. There was hardly any hot food left . One toaster which takes two turns to brown . One coffee jug and one jug of hot water for everyone there If you pick a time then you should have full choice of what's available . The servers should be in hall checking what people need and not having to ask and wait for more produce . Second night we stayed I rang and asked for vegetarian sausages so they were provided

It’s medieval castle with lots of history, wonderful place. The staff there are extremely friendly. The food was superb. We bought a package with dinner (it gives you £30 per person to spend on main menu) gorgeous food and plenty. Drinks in the bar not too pricey. Room was spacious, comfortable bed. Oh and I LOVED peacocks 🦚 wondering around. Fantastic place

Castle is a little bit run down- but then it’s medieval! I must admit room could do with a better clean. (Soap spots on the mirror and coffee stains on mugs provided in the room) but I cleaned it myself and it wasn’t a big issue. The housekeeping department needs to work a little bit better. But it didn’t spoil my stay. I will come back

Reception staff and breakfast staff were outstanding, welcoming, friendly, offered to go hugely above and beyond when we had a little problem with our dog. Room was beautifully cool despite the 30degree temps outside, air con was fantastic. Advised about perfect exits to use with the dog should we need to get out in the night etc, told the nearest exit was steep steps so we may prefer to use an alternative - again, above and beyond what many places offer when bringing a dog. The grounds are immaculate and were a joy to walk round as the evening cooled down and then again in the morning both before and after breakfast. The various artwork within the corridors made the walk to the room interesting, lots of things to look at and enjoy to distract from carrying the big bag!

A member of the bar staff put away an entire tray of clean glasses before even acknowledging we were waiting to be served - thankfully this was only one member of the team, other staff were excellent. A couple of extra bins around the car park/driveway for disposing of dog waste bags would be helpful, we really struggled finding one, asked a staff member who also didn't know where to find a bin. We had to leave a bag outside the bar area while we were eating as we could not find a bin and no one knew where to send us. The only bin we finally found was in the courtyard area at the back of the castle, a long way from where we were eating.

That was one very memorable, unique and mystical experience. We were welcomed late at 11:30 p.m. (late reception was very convenient for us) by the old gentlement who was very sweet, he've showed us many halls and told a bit about the history of the place. We didn't know it was a haunted house but you get the feel from the place at night. Long corridors, beautiful common rooms, we had a spooky late night as If were in the movie. Good breakfast, very nice new rooms. And morning walks around the castle, gardens and feeding peacocks were fantastic experience. Can't recommend it enough

Everything! The 1200/1400 century history of the castle, the grandness, the grounds, the peacocks, sheep, squirrels and rabbits (to name but a few) creatures nearby; the wonky corridors, nooks and sheer abundance of character. Receptoon staff are amazing, breakfast plentiful in what was a main hall with galleried landing. Do not stay here if you need perfection, slick and contemporary blandness. Embrace the history and the thousands of footsteps before yours - we loved it.

Perhaps the weak wifi in the room, but did it really matter? Nah!

The Stunning historic building is a real treat to be in, and the very tiredness of the the place was very comforting. The staff were both friendly and efficient.

Breakfast was uninspiring and the breakfast room is a very long walk from the main areas. For those that have a mobility problem there is no lift so any room that not on the ground floor is a real trek to get to. Room 305, apparently a feature room, was found to be expensive for its facilities. No fridge, the bedside lights had no bedside switching( only by entrance door). Only two small bottles of water supplied in the room and were not refreshed for our second night, and there was no evidence that the room had been visited, as it should have been. The evening meal was appalling, albeit it was an event dinner but a roast chicken dinner is not hard to cook.

The location was nice and quiet but enough to look around for just a one night stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious.

No lift, we were on the top floor. Not able to have the expierence of the resturant berties. The lighting in the room was rather low. The bathroom was not a separate room. The sink plus shower and bath were part of the room. There was a step up, which you could easily trip up when going to the loo, which was separate, however you could not put just the toilet light on, you had to put the light on for the bath/shower area. Which was not great for getting up in the night. You wake your partner with all the light.

The location, staff, peacocks, great choice of breakfast and cooked great too!

The kids choice of food for the evening meal was poor as their was 2 option not available. One being chicken strips, they did off a smaller adults portion so we went for chicken satay (for a 3 year old, as that seemed the safest choice) . They failed to tell us it was more like a loaded kebab with peppers and onion and marinated in spice. That was inedible, so was the kids soup, as it was super salty and over peppered. My daughter age 5 order the cheesy garlic bread, swimming in oil and the beef burger. The bun was burnt, literally black on the top and edges the burger was dry and the chips were way over fried! To be honest I just felt sorry for them as after a long day sight seeing they were starving. The evening chief was clearly not the same breakfast chief as breakfast was amazing!

My friend & I visited recently for a much needed, overnight spa break. The grounds of the hotel are absolutely stunning, with many free roaming peacocks & hens. We received a lovely warm welcome at reception upon checking in. Our standatd twin room was clean, cosy & comfortable with everything we needed. The spa & treatment we received was so relaxing & the therapists, lovely & very accommodating. The food was good, although we didn't eat a lot as neither of us are big eaters! The location is perfect for exploring the surrounding area.

The only point I would make, is that the hot tub we used wasn't really hot enough.....

The hotel is in a beautiful location and the grounds (including the remnants of the original castle) are splendid. We enjoyed the views and autumn colours as we explored them before breakfast. The hotel building itself is an interesting quirky hotch pitch with a grand staircase, several paneled 'state rooms' and many long corridors. Our room was large with a king sized bed and super views of the grounds. The food in the restaurant was good and the staff were all delightful.

The splendid room and bathroom had impressive 14 foot ceilings and were quite cool when we arrived. We switched on the electric radiator in the bedroom which took the chill off by bedtime. The outside temperature was relatively warm for November (about 16 Celsius). The towel rail in the bathroom warmed the towels but not the room. But the hotel is huge and I expect smaller rooms with lower ceilings are used in colder weather!
