charming property of historic interest and beautifully upgraded to make a modern hotel. Lovely spaces to sit, eat, drink, chat were very appreciated, especially the indoor courtyard in the open air. Staff were ever ready to accommodate requests. Our rooms, both suites, were spacious and with super comfy beds, roomy bathing facilities including stand alone bath. We didn't eat breakfast but ate dinner in the hotel restaurant both nights as it was absolutely delicious. The sesame panko aubergine was noteworthy, so tasty I had it both times. Location was perfection, close to the market, the Abbey, the view from the Park walk, high street, the Gold Hill and museum.
Nothing really.

On first impression the hotel looked very fancy. The staff were all fantastic and really friendly throughout the stay. When arriving in the room, which was well presented I was met with the radio playing classic FM. Not my station of choice but a lovely and classy touch. The room had a selection of drinks and a complimentary bottle of water (tap).
I used the desk for work but the chair at the table was way too small. My room, the same as a colleague, both purchased on Booking.com was around £80 more expensive which is likely my fault for booking so late but that feels really bad. I think the bed was comfy and huge but the pillows were too thick for me and I did not sleep well that evening.

An ideal place to stay for a short trip to the southwest and lovely Shaftesbury, the stately Grosvenor has never disappointed. It combines the heritage appeal and atmosphere of an antique coaching inn with contemporary comforts and well-appointed rooms which somehow manage to seem simultaneously both modern and historic. The location - right in the centre of town - is hard to beat, with shops, pubs, car parking and the iconic Gold Hill only a very short stroll away. Breakfast was well cooked and the young staff friendly and accommodating. I like the Grosvenor very much and always look forward to the prospect of a night or two in this singular hotel when visiting my brother and his family in nearby Compton Abbas.
Nothing.

I was blown away by the Grosvenor Arms. The staff were all friendly and super-helpful. My room was huge, very nicely decorated (simple, elegant, modern), and the shower in the bathroom was really great: easy to operate, lots of room and really good pressure. I had lunch and dinner there and both meals were excellent ... and the delicious home-baked pizza was so big that they boxed it and I had the uneaten half for dinner when I got home!
No complaints at all

This hotel is everything a hotel should be. In the heart of a community, hosting events for locals to attend on a weekly basis and offering top class accomodation that makes out of towners want to move. On Saturday morning there is also a pop up bakery selling breads and pastries from a baker in the next town. Our stay was superb. The room was beautiful, stacks of teabags rather than the stingey two most places offer, and there was fresh milk. Toiletries were luxury and smelt like heaven, and there were even toothbrushes in case you had forgotten your own. The bath in the room had a great view of the telly so I could lie in it and watch The Traitors on Friday night, I dont think I have ever been happier. Bed was incredibly comfortable and the hotel was very quiet overnight, so much so that we had an undisturbed night which is rare. Honestly, I cannot fault this hotel and we will definitely be back. Great location too if you want to visit the famous Gold Hill, literally a two minute walk away. Park in the Angel Street/Lane car park as the hotel doesnt have its own, and again that is less than ten minutes walk away and only a few pounds overnight. Staff were all lovely too

This is a really nice hotel and restaurant, right in the centre of the beautiful town of Shaftesbury. The room was lovely and very comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was very good. Decent beers available in the bar.
The staff are good... if you can find them. Almost every time I went to the reception desk or bar to speak to someone, there was no one to be seen and I spent far too much time waiting around and/or looking for them. Once, I had to go a couple of steps into the kitchen and call out to get someone's attention (deep in conversation with other members of staff) -- and they were restaurant staff anyway, the reception and bar staff were fully AWOL. The room we had would benefit from the addition of a small fridge.

Very friendly and helpful staff especially when you are travelling alone. The food in the restaurant was exceptional. The bedroom was designed beautifully, the bed was very comfy and the bathroom was lovely. Little extras like the nice glasses, bottled water and the soaps and hand creams for use were noted and made it a little extra special.
- Directions to the room (I wasn't the only one who was getting lost)! - The room was quite drafty and whilst the radiator was adjustable I still felt the draft and heard a lot of noise from the road. - I love dogs and I appreciate dog friendly hotels but the last night the room next to me had a dog and the dog was barking in the early hours which wasn't appreciated, kept me up all through the night. A bit out of your control I know but the dog was noisy on and off and I really couldn't sleep. Having no one on reception through the night meant no one to mention this to.

Felt immediately at home such inviting and well chosen decor even down to the choice of toiletries. I felt unable to set shave in the bathroom as the lighting over the washbasin was insufficient plus the ceramic knob to the bedside drawer pulled away. Otherwise 100 per cent happy the team were so genuinely greeting and helpful at such a well sited conveniently positioned hotel.

A lovely period building in the centre of town, renovated in a sensitive and innovative way
Parking is a bit remote but that was a minor issue for us. The property refunds the cost of parking in the Angel Lane car park. If you have mobility issues though, it would be best to drop off your luggage first, then park the car as it is about 400 yards away.

We didn’t have breakfast or dinner so can’t comment. Room well equipped and location in town was excellent.
The patio area was disappointing. An old rusty table with basic chairs plus you were overlooked by other rooms. It had a tired feel and was uninviting. Plus the patio doors need a net curtain for privacy.
