excellent location in hotel with history (titanic). Bed was comfortable, place clean and food was great with breakfast included. The real shining light on The White Star was the staff, I can't say enough about how friendly, helpful and accommodating they were. The history of Southhampton was very informational involving the Titanic, shipping history including the Mayflower and their huge roll in the second world war, air and sea, among other historic events. And for those interested they have a huge mall and shopping area within walking distance.
The only issue is you do get some outside noise which really didn't affect our sleep except for one night a bar across the street cranked up the volume and partied till 11 or 12 pm

The inn was a short taxi ride from the Cruise Pier and we arrived about 9:30 am. Bridgit was very welcoming upon arrival, and we were able to store our luggage and start our Southampton experience. The location, on a historic street, was wonderful and within easy walking distance of everything we needed or wanted to see. Upon check in at 3, the staff helped us with our luggage. Jack, the waiter was a hoot and helped us with breakfast, which was delicious. The atmosphere was what we had envisioned as a classic British Pub. Our room was small but the bathroom was wonderful.
The smallness of the room was a little inconvenient, but understandable given the historic nature of the building. Being a pub. and across a busy street from other pubs, there was some background noise early in the night, but not enough to disturb our sleep.

The room was really well designed and furnished, plenty of space and all you need including quality tea and coffee and plenty of fresh milk. The tavern was popular but plenty of seating. The restaurant was excellent, plenty of space and comfy seating, I had two excellent meals there of restaurant quality (I had the poussin one day and roast cod another which were excellent with beautiful sauces and accompaniments) and there is plenty of homely staples too which looked fabulous. The wine list was excellent also and good value.
Nothing this was a great find and I will come again

Stayed here with my wife for one night while visiting family in Southampton. Close to city centre with a paid-for council car park (£11 daily tariff when we stayed) less than 200m away off College Street. Historic pub now run by Fullers with accommodation upstairs and a nautical theme; spacious and comfortable bedroom; nicely decorated and evidently refurbished in recent years to a high standard. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room along with a mini fridge containing a number of complimentary items. Despite being above a busy pub, we couldn't hear a thing from our second floor room and had a good night's sleep. The kitchen was due to close for refurbishment the day after our stay, but in spite of this, we had a great evening meal after checking in (extra cost) and a nice cooked/buffet breakfast the following morning (included in the price we paid for the room). Not many hotels close to central Southampton have free on-site parking so you need to factor this into the overall cost, but at the time we stayed (Jan 2025), the rates for bed and breakfast were very good and cheaper than a lot of the other nearby hotels with similarly high Booking.com ratings, without compromising on quality. Would definitely consider staying here again on a future visit.
Couldn't really fault anything during our short stay. The only thing that might put some people off is the lack of free on-site parking and being a very old building, the steps up to the bedrooms were quite narrow and steep.

I booked for my 95 year old grandfather to stay in the White Star over Christmas so he could be closer to us, and honestly, everything was absolutely fantastic. The room was spacious, very clean and generously packed with drink freebies, there was even a lovely Christmas card and present. The staff were excellent and the breakfast fantastic. Everyone was so accommodating. I had always expected staying at the tavern to be good (we walk past it almost everyday walking our dog), but it truly exceeded expectations in every way. My grandfather had a great stay and I would 100% recommend. Finally, should anyone from the White Star be reading this, I just want to say a personal thank you.
Nothing at all, everything was superb.

Great location. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed and updated bathroom. The property has personality. It made our brief stay in Southampton a special part of our journey. We walked to the furthest cruise ship terminal in about 20 minutes. Enjoyed restaurant for dinner and the morning breakfast options were excellent. Both hot meals and continental buffet were available with included breakfast.
There is no lift and this is an old character property. This is what makes it special and it has been beautifully maintained but the stairs could be a problem for people with mobility issues.

Food was outstanding, especially the breakfast. They offer continental breakfast but also allowed you to choose from the menu. I had a latte and eggs benedict and it was all included in the price of the room. Staff was AMAZING. I will mention no elevators in the did not like section BUT the gentlemen at the front desk carried my bag up to my room. Every person I met at this Bed and Breakfast was exceptional. This is a perfect B&B if you are taking a cruise.
I was on the fourth floor but there was no elevator. It is an old building so the stairs twist and turn and it is a challenge to get luggage to the rooms. If there are men working, they are more than happy to help with the luggage but on my checkout day, there were only women, so they suggested bringing my checked luggage down a day early which was a great solution.

The hotel was well situated for us to walk to the cruise terminal. It was also a short walk into town and to see the historical areas. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was beautiful, well decorated, spotless clean, pristine linen, water, tea, coffee even beer left as complimentary. We were told there would be no breakfast due to a kitchen refurbishment, but Bridget came up to the room to let us know that was only for hot food. When we went to the dinning room the staff had laid out an exceptional buffet. Nothing too much trouble. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay again if in area. Well done all.
Nothing to dislike, fab place to stay

The ‘White Star Tavern’ is an elegant pub which seamlessly mixes being a hotel with being a pub and restaurant. Our room was lovely and had great extra touches, such as a complementary bottle of beer, fresh milk and a coffee machine. The bathroom was very large and well-appointed. There were also blinds and curtains so that almost black out was achieved, which is always a sign of a good hotel! Overall, we were very impressed.
Instructions for the coffee pod machine would have been welcome as I did not have great success with it! The breakfast menu was fab but two things we wanted were not available so perhaps this could be addressed?

The hotel is very well placed close to the old center of town and not far from the docking stations of the big cruise lines. As it is a very old house, over 100 years, the rooms are relatively small, but comfortable, with a small shower, and you need to be prepared to climb fairly steep and small staircases to reach your room. Overall the hotel has a beautiful, charming ambiance which is supported by a friendly staff. The breakfast is a buffet style breakfast with a nice choice of products and you can still choose different freshly prepared dishes from a menu. Apart from that the food is great and the bar offers a wide variety of beer, wine and other drinks
The room we stayed in, number 14, was in the 3rd floor but it had no view. The only really negative point was the mold in the window of the bathroom.
