Checked in by Zack who gave outstanding service! Zack checked 2 pieces of luggage and then carried the remainder of the luggage to our room where he showed us the amenities and explained that everything in the room was complimentary. including the beer in the fridge. The room was lovely! Well-appointed with better than hotel grade linens, a spacious bathroom with top of the line toiletries. We had dinner at the hotel and then the next morning had the full English breakfast which we had paid for in advance (we highly recommend both). Table service was impeccable. The wait staff in the morning are worth mentioning. A wonderful sense of humor and catered to our every need. The White Star write up was careful to list that the location was near the Cruise Port but would be difficult to walk to with luggage. Zack took our request for a taxi for the morning of our departure. The taxi driver gave exceptional service at a very reasonable rate as well as text confirmation of our travel plans and then again upon the taxi arrival at the hotel. Extraordinary service! We truly enjoyed our visit at the White Star and hope to return someday for a longer stay.

We had no concerns or complaints about our stay.

We stayed at the White Star Tavern for two nights before our cruise. We took the National Express bus from Terminal 2 at LHR to the Southampton Coach Station. We had two large bags, two carryons and two backpacks so we got a taxi at the stand behind their building to the hotel for 9 GBP including a tip (about $12 USD). If you don’t have lots of luggage, you could walk about a mile to get there. Since they don’t have an elevator, they suggest that you leave your large bags in storage when you check in. We knew about that before we left home so we made sure that we had what we needed in our other bags. We were placed in our “Standard Double” Room 13 on the third floor, so we walked up the two flights with our carryons and backpacks. It was larger than expected and had a comfortable queen-size bed. The bathroom was very clean and they provided robes and slippers. The floor of the shower was a bit slippery so we needed to be careful getting in and out. There were two bottles of water and one beer in the small refrigerator that were included. Even though there are several bars with outdoor seating below, we found that the room was quieter than we expected. The included breakfast was very good. There’s a self-serve area with cereals, bread, croissants, pain au chocolat and several types of juice. The staff serves tea and coffee and takes your order with your choice of hot items like eggs, French toast, meat, etc. It was a nice way to start our day. We also had dinner there on our first night with a burger and fish and chips and it was also well done. We walked around the area to the waterfront, the huge IKEA and the Westquay mall. We saw the outside of the Tudor House, the inside of St. Michael’s Church and many of the walls of the old city. Continued below as no more space...

Continued from above... Our cruise ship was docked at Berth 101 which we thought was too far for us to walk for check in. The hotel ordered a taxi for us and already had our large bags loaded into the back when we got to the lobby. It was a quick trip to our ship and was only 7 GBP or about $9 USD. It was definitely worth the small amount to duck lugging our bags! Bridget and her staff did an excellent job during our stay. We’d definitely recommend the White Star Tavern for the above reasons. The only drawback is leaving your large bags in storage and getting up the stairs if that might be a problem for you.

Staff was friendly and while they were not able to provide early check in, they were able to hold our carry on bags. This was very helpful as we needed to go to the airport to deal with issues with our upcoming flight. There are plenty of options for food and drink in the immediate area. The rooms are situated over a taver with beers on tap and a decent alochol selection. The Monarch bar across the street makes a delicious Moscow Mule. We visited midweek and out of tourist season but this area could be a lot of fun on a weekend night. Walking distance to shopping center and historical Holyrood church. The shower was hot the towels fluffy and a towel warmer was a cherry on top. There was water in the fridge and the ability to make coffee or tea depending on your preference. The bed was comfortable but we had just come off a cruise ship so a larger room and bed were a godsend. The card for access to the room also allows access from the outside without having to go through the front door and walking through the tavern itself. Breakfast was great; not only did it have self serve cold options but hot breakfast was included. I had the eggs benedict.

The room was stuffy and required opening the windows for good air circulation. The ceiling in the bathroom appears to be peeling and has a bit of what might be mold.

We stayed at this hotel as it was near to the cruise terminal and had amazing reviews. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome and all the facilities were expained to us and we were taken up to our room. The room was excellent, spotlessly clean all the facilities you could possibly need there was even towel robes and slippers to use and a free beer in the fridge! The bed was so comfortable as was the room. Lovely bar and outside seating area, great choice of beers, wines and spirits. Our evening meal was beautiful great choice, good price and lovely food. Breakfast was amazing with so much choice of continental and cooked food. Although it was stated that the cruise terminal is a 15 minute walk it is so close we walked it easily in 8-10 minutes so did not need a taxi. Throughout our stay we will most remember the quality of food, excellent room and above all the friendliness and helpfulness of all staff.

Nothing, perfection. Just a couple of points to query a full pint of milk was provided in the fridge which was probably wasted as we only had a couple of teas each so hardly used any milk. Secondly a small soap in plastic is provided in the bathroom, again a waste as most of it is thrown away after use, a wall mounted holder filled with hand wash would be a better option.

excellent location in hotel with history (titanic). Bed was comfortable, place clean and food was great with breakfast included. The real shining light on The White Star was the staff, I can't say enough about how friendly, helpful and accommodating they were. The history of Southhampton was very informational involving the Titanic, shipping history including the Mayflower and their huge roll in the second world war, air and sea, among other historic events. And for those interested they have a huge mall and shopping area within walking distance.

The only issue is you do get some outside noise which really didn't affect our sleep except for one night a bar across the street cranked up the volume and partied till 11 or 12 pm

The inn was a short taxi ride from the Cruise Pier and we arrived about 9:30 am. Bridgit was very welcoming upon arrival, and we were able to store our luggage and start our Southampton experience. The location, on a historic street, was wonderful and within easy walking distance of everything we needed or wanted to see. Upon check in at 3, the staff helped us with our luggage. Jack, the waiter was a hoot and helped us with breakfast, which was delicious. The atmosphere was what we had envisioned as a classic British Pub. Our room was small but the bathroom was wonderful.

The smallness of the room was a little inconvenient, but understandable given the historic nature of the building. Being a pub. and across a busy street from other pubs, there was some background noise early in the night, but not enough to disturb our sleep.

So much to love about this hotel. Location, staff are so welcoming and the facilities are brilliant. Everything you could need is included in your room rate, including tea and coffee, bottled water and a beer in the fridge! The Titanic theme is fabulous - it’s like you’re staying in a suite, as there are snug little places to sit and read or play cards. The timbers in blue add a nautical atmosphere, as does all of the Titanic memorabilia. Have you added the clock yet, I wonder?

Not a thing to dislike. Was trying to think of any improvements and couldn’t come up with one!

The room was really well designed and furnished, plenty of space and all you need including quality tea and coffee and plenty of fresh milk. The tavern was popular but plenty of seating. The restaurant was excellent, plenty of space and comfy seating, I had two excellent meals there of restaurant quality (I had the poussin one day and roast cod another which were excellent with beautiful sauces and accompaniments) and there is plenty of homely staples too which looked fabulous. The wine list was excellent also and good value.

Nothing this was a great find and I will come again

Stayed here with my wife for one night while visiting family in Southampton. Close to city centre with a paid-for council car park (£11 daily tariff when we stayed) less than 200m away off College Street. Historic pub now run by Fullers with accommodation upstairs and a nautical theme; spacious and comfortable bedroom; nicely decorated and evidently refurbished in recent years to a high standard. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room along with a mini fridge containing a number of complimentary items. Despite being above a busy pub, we couldn't hear a thing from our second floor room and had a good night's sleep. The kitchen was due to close for refurbishment the day after our stay, but in spite of this, we had a great evening meal after checking in (extra cost) and a nice cooked/buffet breakfast the following morning (included in the price we paid for the room). Not many hotels close to central Southampton have free on-site parking so you need to factor this into the overall cost, but at the time we stayed (Jan 2025), the rates for bed and breakfast were very good and cheaper than a lot of the other nearby hotels with similarly high Booking.com ratings, without compromising on quality. Would definitely consider staying here again on a future visit.

Couldn't really fault anything during our short stay. The only thing that might put some people off is the lack of free on-site parking and being a very old building, the steps up to the bedrooms were quite narrow and steep.

I booked for my 95 year old grandfather to stay in the White Star over Christmas so he could be closer to us, and honestly, everything was absolutely fantastic. The room was spacious, very clean and generously packed with drink freebies, there was even a lovely Christmas card and present. The staff were excellent and the breakfast fantastic. Everyone was so accommodating. I had always expected staying at the tavern to be good (we walk past it almost everyday walking our dog), but it truly exceeded expectations in every way. My grandfather had a great stay and I would 100% recommend. Finally, should anyone from the White Star be reading this, I just want to say a personal thank you.

Nothing at all, everything was superb.
