Lovely main buildings and grounds. Plenty of parking. Didn’t have time to visit the leisure centre. Very good breakfast. Had an issue with radiator valve jammed on high and blasting full heat all night when it was already hot, but once reported to reception next morning, maintenance were on it before we’d even finished our breakfast and it was all sorted by the time we came back after a day out. Staff really attentive and cheerful.

Room needs some refurbishment - paint peeling off parts of ceiling in our bedroom and particularly on lower part of the back of the bathroom door with paint chips on floor each day.

The breakfast was ok. There were no vegetarian options. There were no teapots or teabags we had to ask for tea and it took a long time arriving. The setting was excellent, the greek yogurt was the best I've ever had. Staff were friendly.

Accessibility could be better signposted. A gardener had to show us a wheelchair friendly route to the dining room, and one of the doors was locked so he had to go round and unlock it. There were unexpected and unnecessary steps at the end of the accommodation blocked and I had specifically asked for an accessible room.

Excellent ‘Murder Event’ including 3 course dinner. Make sure you’re ‘set up’ to charge bar bills etc. to your account when you check in if that’s how you want to pay. It’ll save a walk back to reception. The staff were cheerful, the entertainment was great and the food was excellent. The room was nice and warm (it was a very cold night) and comfortable.

Breakfast was a little confusing, the norm in hotels is usually to ask whether you want tea or coffee when you arrive, here you seem to have to ask for it, oh, and teaspoons too! Breakfast was ‘self service’ and acceptable although fried eggs are never as nice when pre cooked and kept warm.

Lovely receptionists, very helpful and kind. The room was very clean and well equipped and the bed was comfortable. The staff could not have been more helpful and the venue is stunning, the house itself is really quite a spectacle. The interior of the house is also amazing to see, so many ornate features, beautiful paintings and so much history. The rooms themselves are quite bog standard hotel rooms but they are fit for purpose and perfectly acceptable for the amount of money that I paid. I would not hesitate to stay here again. The leisure center is an added bonus, it is not particularly plush, but it was a welcome relief after a long drive. Great breakfast too!

The taste of the tap water 💦💦💦🤣

Absolute steal of a deal!! The hotel had huge grounds which included a cricket pitch, croquet lawn, adventure area and a woodland trail!! Happened upon this by accident as needed a last minute stay for work and was extremely happy. The leisure facilities were okay, sauna was a bit snug, but otherwise a pleasant bonus 😁 staff were really friendly and helpful and the room I stayed in was big, with a nice bathroom

Because the grounds are so nice, locals come for walks and use the parking spaces for people staying at the hotel which was not appreciated when having to lug heavy suitcases as a solo 5ft2 traveller

The reception greeting was very friendly and helpful. The dog friendly environment and gift pack. Breakfast was good. The grounds are great for walking around, very tranquil. Food in restaurant was excellent and service was fantastic with friendly and attentive staff. Young woman behind the bar and young men staff at breakfast were very friendly. Room was comfortable for us and our two dogs.

Maybe a little over priced. The woman staff member behind the breakfast counter was miserable and unfriendly, maybe she was dealing with a personal issue. Room was a bit warm, but a fan was provided which helped. Curtains were not effective and lights on around outside meant the room was not fully dark. Maybe lights outside should be on a sensor.

We arrived in the evening having crossed from St Malo by ferry and found that we had been upgraded to a suite as the rest of the hotel had been taken over by 108 police officers who were preparing to take part in the D Day celebrations. The suite was very spacious and comfortable and would normally have cost considerably more than we were charged. Breakfast in the morning was good and we had an adequate meal in the bar the night before - adequate meaning it was fine but had just had a week of superb French cooking, so it paled by comparison!

The beer in the bar was nothing to write home about - I was longing for a real English pint of bitter but there was none on tap.

Bit worried about review comments on the room size and thought about paying to upgrade; but in the end the standard room was perfectly adequate. Gym and pool excellent as was breakfast (but see below). Place is quite isolated but there's a Wadworths pub 10 minutes walk away (Samuel's Rest) which does adequate/good (clearly depending on who's in the kitchen) food.

Because the cooked breakfast is served by staff at the buffet, lack of staff means you can sometimes have to wait and there can be a deal of faffing about if someone in front of you in the queue orders something special - minor annoyance but one that could easily fixed by allowing guests to serve themselves (or employing more staff which will obviously cost).

The character of the main house was lovely. Rooms starting to look tired although clean.

Food was lovely and very well cooked and presented but slightly over priced for the portion size. Overall feeling of the hotel is that of a venue for conferences and weddings more than individual travellers. Lack of staff at breakfast and around the leisure centre. With no service booklet in the room it was not evident how to enter, confirmation of meal times and what to do with laundry etc.

Warm welcome, plenty of car spaces, room was quiet. Pool facilities great, comfy bed, clean room and tidy. Can't rate breakfast as although it was included, unfortunately not accessible for us as we had child with nervous system disability so a buffet breakfast was too much to consider sadly. Lovely grounds and a great location.

No fridge in room which would have helped (I believe they are available in the more premium rooms so a shame they aren't standard issue across all rooms) And window closure was broken and worrying. Fan provided which was great on hot day.
