My second visit, first time I rated 10.. this visit, as usual staff lovely and friendly, food excellent. What I didnt like: Bedroom (single) great disappointment. Toilet did not flush well. t.v. did not wok, someone from reception came and after some time able to get a picture. When I tried to change channels volume so loud unable to turn down I switched it off considering other residents. BED so uncomfortable. seemed a line across mattress either sunk or something. I mentioned on checkout to reception the lady I spoke to mentioned my first room was No,7 a small double, No 23 single. Size of bed was not an issue! When booking I put in 1 person, the size of bed or room then down to hotel.

Such a cosy place. Staff so sweet and helpful. They smiled!! From the moment we stepped in they couldn't be more accommodating, checked in later than planned due to traffic, I had previously informed them I'd be late. Was never made to feel like I was inconveniencing them. Breakfast area was lovely, window seats Nd plenty of choice! Well decorated and clean. Pancakes were yummy!!! Friendly breakfast staff, and on day 2 they remembered I drank coffee and son had tea from day before despite all the faces they must see, remembering the little things is hard!! It's a Tiny detail and small effort can make someone's morning A little better. It did mine. You feel noticed rather than 'just nother face' I appreciated that. They all were lovely and helpful and checked regularly for coffee refills and that we had what we needed. (And I wish I'd taken note of their names, but I'm terrible at names and would have got them wrong anyways, it's a wonder I remember my own.) The rooms were a little dated but it was part of the charm, part of the aesthetics too. Old building. Our room was clean and tidy, and comfortable. Fluffy pillows!!! 😍 And the shower was just perfect!!! Hot and strong! Though my son did flood the floor a Little, plenty of towels thankfully. The location was perfect and plenty of parking. Minute walk and you're smack bang in the middle of Fareham high street. If we have the opportunity to return to Fareham, this is where we will be staying for sure! Short drive away from the crematorium and the bakery over the road was Fab!! There's a small garden to relax in and although we didn't get to eat in the evening, the menu looked lovely and had good reviews from chatting to locals. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here despite the reason for the trip. I absolutely recommend it for short and long stays! Thankyou you to all who helped us during our stay, you all do a fantastic job!!

The rain. But that's not something they can deal with sadly.

We have stayed at The Red Lion before and didn't hesitate to book there again. The Inn is quite simply a 'home from home' and the staff are, without exception, the friendliest people you're likely to come across in the hospitality sector. This time we were visiting under difficult circumstances and the level of understanding and kindness shown was quite overwhelming. In particular, the manager Helen went out of her way to help us when we unexpectedly had to extend our stay. The reception and waiting staff, including Valerie, Elizabeth, Dan, Frank and many more were exceptional. We used the dining room extensively and were impressed with the food and drink offering and quality of service coming from the kitchen. We have booked to return in a few weeks for a family funeral and are confident that the hotel will make a difficult experience just that little bit easier. Thank you all, it is very much appreciated x

This was a return visit to The Red Lion. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. All the staff are exceptionally friendly and prepared to go the extra mile to ensure a pleasant stay. Check in was easy and efficient. We were really impressed as we had remembered this from our last stay. The food in the restaurant in the evening and at breakfast was well presented and delicious. It makes such a difference to be served decent coffee at breakfast. Both dinner and breakfast menus were extensive, and options were readily available for those avoiding gluten. Our room on the second floor was spacious and clean and very comfortable. With hindsight I wish that I had booked a room with a slightly larger bed, but that's down to me. We enjoyed the beer garden for a drink before dinner in the evening sunshine. All in all a very pleasant and well priced stay. Can't wait to visit again.

The temperature of the shower was a little tricky to regulate but it was very powerful.

We enjoyed our stay at the red lion. Our room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly. The food was excellent, good portions. The breakfast was very good especially. Excellent choice, including smoked salmon. Good position in Fareham, near all shops and not far from the train, which we used to go to Portsmouth harbour twice. Highly recommend it.

We just felt the whole pub could do with a refurbishment. Our room and other parts of the hotel could do with a fresh coat of paint. Also the shower was quite old and was tricky to control.

The Food and location and pleasant staff. We enjoyed some nice food and the breakfast was very good value. bar and restaurant staff really nice. Location ideal for the town.

Room was very poorly lit. the main ceiling light was very dim. even with all the lights on it was very dark. to get ready to go out you couldn’t put your make up on nicely . appreciate the age and history of property but windows were swollen and had to get help to open as we needed air to circulate as the extraction fan in bathroom didn’t work and first night sleep was very uncomfortable. the condensation build up was bad. Room was pleasant but decor tired and bathroom basic with taps and shower taps cheap and tarnished and there was a lovely ganging cobweb hanging the four nights we were there. can’t say our sleep was comfortable as bed mattress lumpy. don’t think we had any heating whilst there either and no heated towel rail to air towels bearing in mind the condensation build up.

The Full English breakfast was excellent. Plus there was a choice of Smoked Salmon, Eggs cooked various different ways and Advocados, plus continental breakfast. The room had everything we needed and the bed in particular the pillows were very comfortable for a great nights sleep.

The water pressure in the bathroom could have been better. The water was difficult to regulate, it either came out too hot or too cold. The cold water tap on the sink was luke warm instead of cold.

Perfect location for us, for what we wanted. Free parking is always a bonus. Nice reception area with friendly staff. Our room was a good size and yes the decor, bathroom was looking tired and needing an upgrade. Bed was very comfortable with tv and tea coffee making facilities. There was also an iron and ironing board. Had an evening meal in the restaurant which was your standard pub grub, which was perfectly acceptable. Staff were excellent, couldn’t fault them. Would I stay again. Definitely

Our room was large and the beds were super comfortable. Bathroom was clean and the water was always hot. We ate breakfast at the hotel food was excellent served by equally excellent Waitresses on both days.

Our bed room was dark even with the lights on - definitely couldn’t read in bed. Stronger light bulbs and paler lamp shades would help.Bathroom definitely needed updating and for the rating of the hotel I expected more than 2 sample size shower gel by the batt. Our room was not serviced on Saturday ie beds weren’t made - bins not emptied - we had to ask at reception to get the beds made.

Really enjoyed the homely feeling that the placed had. It has old charm that reflects its history of being a previous coach house. The staff were amazing and looked after us. The food was brilliant as well. Recommend getting breakfast included, you won’t regret that choice. We also had the occasional dinner and this was excellent too.

Not much to dislike. We would stay here in a heartbeat in future. Some people may say it could do with a slight makeover or modernisation. We enjoy the that old charm feeling and the way we were looked after more than made up for any flash decor.
