We have stayed at The Red Lion before and didn't hesitate to book there again. The Inn is quite simply a 'home from home' and the staff are, without exception, the friendliest people you're likely to come across in the hospitality sector. This time we were visiting under difficult circumstances and the level of understanding and kindness shown was quite overwhelming. In particular, the manager Helen went out of her way to help us when we unexpectedly had to extend our stay. The reception and waiting staff, including Valerie, Elizabeth, Dan, Frank and many more were exceptional. We used the dining room extensively and were impressed with the food and drink offering and quality of service coming from the kitchen. We have booked to return in a few weeks for a family funeral and are confident that the hotel will make a difficult experience just that little bit easier. This was a return visit to The Red Lion. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. All the staff are exceptionally friendly and prepared to go the extra mile to ensure a pleasant stay. Check in was easy and efficient. We were really impressed as we had remembered this from our last stay. The food in the restaurant in the evening and at breakfast was well presented and delicious. It makes such a difference to be served decent coffee at breakfast. Both dinner and breakfast menus were extensive, and options were readily available for those avoiding gluten. Our room on the second floor was spacious and clean and very comfortable. With hindsight I wish that I had booked a room with a slightly larger bed, but that's down to me. We enjoyed the beer garden for a drink before dinner in the evening sunshine. All in all a very pleasant and well priced stay. Can't wait to visit again.

The temperature of the shower was a little tricky to regulate but it was very powerful.

We enjoyed our stay at the red lion. Our room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly. The food was excellent, good portions. The breakfast was very good especially. Excellent choice, including smoked salmon. Good position in Fareham, near all shops and not far from the train, which we used to go to Portsmouth harbour twice. Highly recommend it.

We just felt the whole pub could do with a refurbishment. Our room and other parts of the hotel could do with a fresh coat of paint. Also the shower was quite old and was tricky to control.

The Food and location and pleasant staff. We enjoyed some nice food and the breakfast was very good value. bar and restaurant staff really nice. Location ideal for the town.

Room was very poorly lit. the main ceiling light was very dim. even with all the lights on it was very dark. to get ready to go out you couldn’t put your make up on nicely . appreciate the age and history of property but windows were swollen and had to get help to open as we needed air to circulate as the extraction fan in bathroom didn’t work and first night sleep was very uncomfortable. the condensation build up was bad. Room was pleasant but decor tired and bathroom basic with taps and shower taps cheap and tarnished and there was a lovely ganging cobweb hanging the four nights we were there. can’t say our sleep was comfortable as bed mattress lumpy. don’t think we had any heating whilst there either and no heated towel rail to air towels bearing in mind the condensation build up.

Our room was large and the beds were super comfortable. Bathroom was clean and the water was always hot. We ate breakfast at the hotel food was excellent served by equally excellent Waitresses on both days.

Our bed room was dark even with the lights on - definitely couldn’t read in bed. Stronger light bulbs and paler lamp shades would help.Bathroom definitely needed updating and for the rating of the hotel I expected more than 2 sample size shower gel by the batt. Our room was not serviced on Saturday ie beds weren’t made - bins not emptied - we had to ask at reception to get the beds made.

Really enjoyed the homely feeling that the placed had. It has old charm that reflects its history of being a previous coach house. The staff were amazing and looked after us. The food was brilliant as well. Recommend getting breakfast included, you won’t regret that choice. We also had the occasional dinner and this was excellent too.

Not much to dislike. We would stay here in a heartbeat in future. Some people may say it could do with a slight makeover or modernisation. We enjoy the that old charm feeling and the way we were looked after more than made up for any flash decor.

Location close to amenities. Food was excellent Breakfast staff first class, Bar men very helpful and funny all staff couldn't do enough. Staff on front desk arranged for a member of staff to help with my case to and from my car arriving at hotel and on the day I checked out .

Unfortunately no fault of hotel but there wasn't a lift to upper floors, which can't be put in due to being listed building, being disabled using stairs can be an issue. Not enough disabled rooms. Was informed on enquiry there is only 1 disabled room.Was unable to have a shower during stay as over bath no good for disabled people. A few rooms with a shower only would be better. Was lucky I had friends in the area who I was visiting and was able to have a shower there. The beds were also a little high struggled slightly getting in and high risk of rolling off.

But of noise during night but to be expected from location and the fact it's a pub. We had a really dirty tap/shower control in the bath. Was so icky to touch when using the shower...please, it definitely needs to be replaced !!!!!! Also perhaps more on the expensive side but we needed a room for the night and was willing to pay as nothing was available in Gosport

I've stayed here several times over the years and this place never disappoints. That staff especially deserves a mention. Case in point upon my arrival I had a minor issue with my room due to an electrical fault. They offered to move me straight away and the move was flawless and made the rest of my visit all the better for it. A cosy, clean and comfortable room with a good bed too and the breakfast and options are scrumptious. I recommend this place, highly .

Staff were more than helpful and the rooms were warm and quiet. The bar was busy but had a good atmosphere. The breakfast was nice and more than enough on offer. The room rate was acceptable for the area.

The lighting in our room was quite dim especially in the bathroom. This caused my wife a slight problem when getting ready to go out when applying her make up. Perhaps a daylight lamp instead of a warm white lamp in the bathroom would help and not have any affect on power usage.
