The location in the heart of the town.

When we arrived at The New Inn we were checked in by a young man who gave us the keys to our room .My wife went up to our room and I went to our car to move it to the courtyard and to get our luggage when I went to open the back door of the pub it was locked, I thought the pub was closed so the door was locked. I repeatedly rang the bell outside the door but no one answered. I just had enough charge in my phone to ask my wife if she could come down and unlock the door. If she hadn't heard my phone I would be sleeping in the car.

Easy to reach, close to all routes to explore. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was excellent plenty of options on the menu for breakfast and dinner, good selection of beers and drinks in the bar. Has we understood the hosts had not long taken it over and were working hard to restore the pub has the previous owners had neglected it. The hosts are doing a good job.

There could be a problem regarding parking, this is due to other people using the car park for shopping purposes, and not staying at the pub.

The staff where very welcoming. The room we stayed in was spacious, the bathroom adequate. the food, very well presented with good portions.

The transition from car park to bedroom ( car park requires an up grading, concrete ? large tiles ?? clear walking space) When we arrived, with the car park being higher than the accommodation and the entrance into the reception area being tiled, after collecting our keys for the room, we where show to our room upstairs. We and I assume everyone who stays at the New Inn are taken to their room. My wife and myself have just walked out of a car park, the mud and dirt on our shoes will know be transferred onto the carpets, up the stairs, and into our room for our stay.( 1 large door mat would help) The cleanliness was an issue, the lady behind the Bar (manager) spoke to us and apologized.( the cleaning staff where aware of the standard and where dealing with it)

Room was comfy and heating was on. Good location for places to grab some dinner. Pub prices were good compared to what we had expected for a country pub in York.

The TV would switch off after about 15 mins of watching and there was no settings to stop this from happening. 4 out of the 6 bulbs in the room didn't work so the room was quite dimly lit. When we arrived my friend asked for fried egg on toast for breakfast and she ended up with a fried egg sandwich.

The New Inn is a great base for exploring the area.It has it's own car park which is a bonus .A lovely traditional Inn but is looking a little rub down and really needs a refurb.

Unfortunately there was no breakfast on our last morning, we waited a good while as the managers don't live on the premises, but no-one arrived so we, and a few others left. We did get a phone call ,when we were almost home, apologising that they had an emergency.

This is an "Old English" hotel/pub with great character. The room was of good size and comfort. A pleasant and friendly bar area with a good choice of local (Yorkshire) beers and others. The menu was not overly large or complicated but offered a good choice range. The food was really good, well presented and served by the chef (nice touch).

Given the age and the character I would really not want it to change. Therefore I have nothing to add.

The staff were friendly and nothing was a problem, the room was a good size with all our requirements for a comfortable stay, the food was good from the menu and the breakfast was great to set you up for the day. There was no breakfast menu as such, the staff just asked what you would like and delivered it hot and fresh. A shame we could not not stay for the Sunday roast, it sounded great.

Although work still needed to improve the property , the new owners have only had the pub 6 months and have done a good job so far. The staff were really friendly, the pub is cosy and had a great pint! Our room was huge and really nice and breakfast was excellent! Such a lovely village too !

Would be nice to have a better sitting area outside but sure this will happen in time.

Nice friendly pub with good staff in a great location. We ordered breakfast for 8.00am but think Chef may have overslept slightly as we were served around 08.40. Luckily we were not in any hurry so not a problem.

Beer garden could do with some planters to brighten it up.

Everything was spot on - spacious room, bathroom. Food/drink high standard. Staff are excellent 👌. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Will be definitely coming back, possibly try a holiday cottage next time. Fantastic overall experience, stay and just what we needed- relaxation 😌 😀
