After reading the reviews I was concerned that I had booked a "pig in a poke" however I was pleasantly surprised. Green Gables is a beautiful building, undergoing refurbishment, with an interesting history,, with most of the original features still remaining. The room was tastefully and simply decorated, the bed was comfy, towels and bedding were clean. Although many parts of The Hotel are locked up, there are a billiards room, a games room, with table tennis and tables for guests to enjoy their own food and a TV lounge, which has enough toys in it to keep the little ones entertained. We stayed an extra 3 nights, with the option of having the room cleaned and bedding, towels etc changed. All in all a pleasant stay

The location is great, surrounded by green areas. The building itself is something really impressive, although a modern refurbishment could do, but we didn't mind that, there are beautiful decors, original tiled floors can be seen at reception, high ceilings... The family room we stayed in (n.3) was very spacious, the kids room had 3 single beds with wide closets, a desk and small TV, divided by a door was our room with a double bed, closet and access to the family bathroom, breakfast cupboard with kettle and monodose drinks. All was very clean, beds comfortable. We also had access to a private balcony, which was bigger than our rooms altogether. Overall it was good, with a couple downsides, good value for money paid.
To access the hotel by car you have to drive a narrow, damaged road, very bumpy. But it's just a 1 minute drive. We arrived at 15.30, nobody was there, we rang the digital camera bell, and someone arrived after about 10 minutes by car and gave us the keys. We were told hot water was not working in our room but he gave us the keys for the room next door, so we could shower there.... We photographed the WiFi password from reception, but it didn't work, we were not bothered to ask the staff, so we used our mobile data. We only stayed 1 night so we were ok.

Honestly great! Genuinely no idea why the reviews were so poor. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy. We had fresh towels, tea/coffee and toiletries provided. Apparently there's a pool but we arrived in the evening unfortunately. Great for families as there's a playground out the back which the kids loved! they even had a games room with table football and table tennis. Honestly it's probably the best £60 I could of spent. You guys expecting the ritz are ridiculous. Great value for money.
Only problem I could point out was the fact such a large building with so much history is so poorly utilised. I would have loved to have seen it during the sea side boom

Old fashioned but lovely ambience, absolutely huge room (the triple room) with lots of tea and coffee, a decent t.v and a really good bathroom with full-sized bath! Then the good quality full sized snooker table in the games room and the piano in the lobby were a nice touch, as were the very period pictures of Scarborough scattered throughout the common areas. Its old fashioned but it suits the town and is reflected in the price. I think it has real charm, no flat pack chain hotel vibe at all the absolute opposite, which is a nice change these days, not many hotels like this left especially so reasonably priced. Would definitely reccomend, no major gripes at all and I really enjoyed the vibe of the place.
Getting a 2nd key would have been nice, and 10am is very early for checkout 11am would be much less severe in my opinion. Also clearer instructions on times etc. For the games room would be good. Slightly away from the action so less mobile people may need taxis to and from the centre of town (around £4-£5 each way depending on where your going in the centre, to the open air arena it cost £7.50 in a cab so I would guess the sea life center would be around £10-£12 each way in a cab) But for more capable walkers its only 10-15 minutes to the train station which is quite central and then probably a further 10 minutes to the beach.

The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable and spacious. It was a very good price too. Also being able to park and the use of the balcony was an added bonus. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I even received a phone call in the evening to make sure we booked in fine and if everything was ok. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
Sadly the place is rather run down and could do with some modernisation (though you can see some effort has been put in the brighten the place up a bit is certain areas) and a few minor repairs could do with being addressed like dripping taps and leaking radiators. Maybe look to reopen some of the previous facilities the hotel had in the past or even make use of some of the unused public spaces in some way

We had a fantastic stay! The value for money was excellent, and our family room felt like a cozy little oasis with its two rooms in one. It was clean and spacious, which made us feel right at home. The gaming room was a hit with the kids and added a fun touch to our trip. The staff were super welcoming, friendly, and always ready to help. We also loved having a car park available. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here and would absolutely come back again!

Comfortable beds with duvets, rather than blankets, good hot shower, on-site parking, kettle for making coffee and tea, good wifi, plenty of electric sockets, on arrival a friendly staff member explained the check in and check out process
I received a telephone call confirming the reservation and another to find out how the check in was. Sadly the connection was so bad that I had real difficulties understanding the other person.

Peace and quiet, felt safe, very clean, not overrun with seagulls like other places but it does have doves and squirrels. Also free parking which is so rare in Scarborough. You could park here and walk anywhere you can get Coastliner at end of street to Leeds via York but rail station is easily walkable, and other buses to Whitby and Bridlington can be caught at the station. It is walkable into town and the beach from here but there are also buses if you cannot walk that far.
Nothing.

This hotel was dated in need of a paint and polish. There was no iron and ironing board or towels in the room and had to ask for them. We must say it was very private didn't get bothered by any one. The green gables is a magnificent building. I thought it was a bit expensive for what we got at £101 per night for 3 nights. But apart from this we had a pleasant stay in Scarborough and certainly would stay here again if the price was a bit lower for what you get .
Dated decor no towels and ironing board. Price

Although not spotless and showing its age in places, we really enjoyed our stay. We had access to the balcony the beds were clean and comfy and it had a bath and a shower. For the price alone we will be back for sure. Apologies for the ambulance being necessary and nothing to do with our stay, I have health issues an need help at times.
Not being able to park close by.
