This was an excellent bed and breakfast located near the ferry terminal and within walking distance of many restaurants and the train station. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had a lovely view of the water from the chairs in the bay window of our room. Breakfast was abundant and delicious and we were able to select between many options for the cooked breakfast. Everything we needed for our stay which was only for one night but we would have definitely been comfortable to stay in our room for multiple nights. Michael and Karen were wonderful hosts very helpful and friendly.

Everything was wonderful

1. King room with the sea view was clean, quite spacious, with a large bed, desk, small table and two armchairs. 2. Kettle, tea, coffee, milk and some sweet biscuits were provided. 3. Breakfast was included in the room price - continental and also hot breakfast cooked by the owners to order. 4. Free WiFi. 5. Bathroom consisted of a shower, small sink and toilet, but not much space for personal items. 6. Toiletries were provided. 7. Free street parking. 8. Attentive hosts.

1. No mini fridge in the room - limited access to the small fridge in the dining room. 2. No microwave.

Suffice it to say that photo of this place does not do it justice…the woodwork and moldings are beautiful, but what truly sets it out from other places is how the host (Michael) and his partner (Karen) make you feel right at home. I’d messaged Michael to let him know what time we would be arriving in town, and lo and behold, as soon as we stepped out of the train station, I heard my name called! We were intending to take a taxi but he was there to fetch us! Our room was beautiful, very spacious and comfortable with a view looking out at the water…and Michael had several suggestions for what we might want to do during our short stay. We were pleasantly surprised at what a pleasant little town this is and took walks along the Pentland Firth, the River Thurso as well as visited the museum which had a wealth of information! Karen cooked us an amazing breakfast and Michael offered to take us to the ferry terminal! Talk about customer service, thank you so much!

That we had to Leave so soon!

The location is excellent - near the beach, with a great view across the ocean to the Orkney Islands. At the same time, everything in town was just a few blocks away. The owners/staff were awesome; friendly, offered helpful advice about things to do, and generally made us feel like we were at home for the 4 days we spent there. I'd stay here again without any hesitation.

Nothing - it was great!

We arrived a little earlier than expected no problem Michael welcomed us and showed us to our room for the evening.Settled in and took a walk into town and called in at Y Not a little restaurant that Michael recommended to book a table for that night.Anyway had our dinner there and it was fab first class great recommendation.Great nights sleep in a super big bedroom the Dunnet room with views out over the bay , Michael even has a pair of binoculars on the table for you to get a closer view.Breakfast was great just what we'd pre ordered lovely and hot thanks Karen.The only dissapointing thing was we had only booked the one night ,but lesson learned for next time.Overall a very enjoyable stay although brief and I highly recommend the Westlea to anyone heading this direction..

Absolutely nothing at all everything was sppt on.

We really appreciated the hospitality of Michael and Karen. They tried so hard to accommodate us and to make our visit as comfortable as possible. The room was very clean, with plenty of space available. Breakfast was always tasty and well cooked. I did enjoy my chats with Michael. The establishment was well maintained and beautifully presented.

No curtains in bedroom, just a blind. On a main road blackout curtains would have been more appropriate as at 10.30pm it was still daylight.

We arrived in Thurso much delayed due to a flat tire on the way! The Mackays were completely understanding and helpful with our situation. We were greeted by Michael when we arrived and he assisted us into their home in the rain and made us feel very welcome even at the late hour. We were leaving on the ferry next day so didn't get much chance to enjoy our lovely, nicely appointed room with a sea view. We did thoroughly enjoy the wonderfully comfy bed, delicious home-cooked breakfast and chatting with the owners. Thank you!

Westlea was wonderfully placed, close to town and easy to find from the ferry. Our hosts directed us very well for dinner options and the WhyNot bar served excellent value for money food. Breakfast was delightful and overall a comfortable stay.

We were in the non ensuite room, and our own bathroom was very palatial even though it was a short distance away. The shower was challenging and not as easy to use and hot as I would have liked but then that could be personal preference.

Our room at Westlea BnB was spacious, comfortable, and nicely done. We loved staying there. Breakfast was delicious, and we especially appreciated the variety of fruit that was offered. The hosts gave us great recommendations for the area and for our journey, and while we found Thurso itself to be a bit bleak, staying at Westlea BnB would be reason enough for us to come back!

It was a good room which a comfortable bed and it would have had a great view if the weather had been kinder! The hosts were friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed our cooked breakfast. It is a great place to stay if you are catching the ferry to the Orkneys.

Nothing about the hotel but it was impossible to get a meal in Thurso on a Sunday evening. Everywhere was either fully booked or closed, including the fish and chip shop. We had to buy sandwiches in the Co-op in the end. I would advise booking somewhere in advance.
