Very handy indeed for tour ferry to Orkney---only 5 minutes by car down to ferry departure point at 8.45 a.m. nice bar/pub grub in older hotel building across road from modern block where we stayed.Perfect for our needs for a one night stay. We were pleasantly surprised by the very clean modern bedroom with en-suit in this new across road annexe as last time we were in John o' Groats the whole place was tatty and rather depressing. We are both Scots living in Edinburgh, so not the usual tourists ,perhaps wanting to explore the northern routes.
Nothing really---maybe it could be a bit of a tourist nightmare, overcrowded in high season due to it's end of the line reputation. The lonely and narrow road there is very badly indeed in need of resurfacing as ,even in a car,it was difficult to avoid the numerous potholes--positively dangerous for motorcyclists etc --even more so in the bad wet weather, frequent in that area. A disgrace really--very neglected by the local road authorities.

We only stayed for one night but had a lovely meal in the evening (my wife had the steak and I had the macaroni cheese, both highly recommended) and a good breakfast in the morning. This property is ideally situated to visit John 'O' Groats. The room we stayed in was across the road from the main hotel and bar and was clean, decent and functional and looked as if it had been refurbished in the recent past
The room was a little on the small side but it should not be a big problem if only staying for one or two nights

The hotel was easy to find and located in walking distance to the harbour. We were met by a pleasant welcoming young lady at reception who greeted us with a warm smile. The room was exceptionally clean and had stunning views over to the islands. The sunsets were amazing to watch. There was a great choice of tea and coffee plus biscuits in the room. There was nice fresh white towels provided. The beds were comfy with clean crisp linen. There was a great selection to choose from at breakfast. The full Scottish breakfast was exceptional. The restaurant staff were so friendly and catered to our needs. We had a choice of cereals, fruit, fruit juice, toast, cooked breakfast and of course porridge. The meals served at night were amazing and a good portion. Exceptional value for money and again the staff were a delight. We had an amazing family holiday and all enjoyed our time away. Would definitely book again.
Nothing everything was perfect.

My stand out memory from here will be the food. It was gorgeous. Simple meals, good quality ingredients and well cooked. Huge portions too. The staff were friendly but kept busy. Our room (No 26) was in a building directly across the road, was ground floor and easily accessible. It was a little snug but nearly everything worked and it was fine for an impromptu overnight stay. We could see the sea in the distance from our window but I wouldn't necessarily class it as a sea view.
This made us laugh but I guess it's a negative. There was a sign on the bathroom door to inform you to keep the door closed and the fan going else the steam might set off the fire alarm. The trouble was, the isolator switch was on the ceiling. Haha, my extended selfie stick has finally had a use! Car parking seems to be limited.

We really enjoyed our stay at John O Groats Hotel. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The hotel is quite old but our room was clean and cosy, if a little small. Meals were all tasty. The hotel is well positioned for exploring the area and we undertook a fabulous walk along the spectacular coastline south of the lighthouse.

Both my partner and me are disabled she walks with sticks and I need to be on mobile oxgen. We asked if they had a ground floor room.... they did but it was in the building across the road. Which they where happy to open up for our use only. We decided we could manage the small flight of stairs in the main hotel instead. The room was a wee bit dated but very clean and equally adequate with tea and coffee a beautiful clean shower with good pressure. The evening meal was excellent home cooked very freindly staff. And I finished my evening with a very large malt of which they had a large stock plus a beautifully poured cool beer. The next morning was breakfast included in the price ... full cooked fresh produce breakfast with tea or coffee.... and again wonderful staff
Honestly the only thing was we needed to ask for extra pillows which they provided no problem.

Excellent location, within easy walk to the sea and a short drive to the lighthouse.
No porridge or meusli available for breakfast and we weren't warned that we needed to book for dinner. Also lots of signs in the room to say to turn the fan on while showering to stop the fire alarm being activated through the steam but no way to do that. Also couldn't open the window in the bathroom to deal with the steam.

Spotless and very comfortable. Close to all main attractions. Food good and lovely breakfast in the mornings. Staff were young but very friendly and very keen to please. Lovely stay thank you.
The hotel is not modern but it's comfortable, warm, with good food, very friendly and helpful staff. Given where it is located in John O'groats there is limited accommodation available. But I feel this lovely hotel is very welcoming and definitely worth staying in. It certainly lives up to it's name with beautiful coastal views.

It's the most remotest part of Scotland, which is absolutely peaceful and quiet, friendly people, absolutely make me feel like Britain is a peaceful country without the tax and brexit and inflation to worry about.
Well, inside my room, the television practically on the ceiling, I still have my wife rubbing my neck with balm oil due to the constant pain on my neck suffered while watching the telly.

I found the bed very firm but have had a hip replacement and that may have contributed to my discomfort. Hubby was fine, Nice restaurant/bar and the staff were very friendly. We understood a continental breakfast was included but in fact we could have had a full cooked breakfast, had we known! We were in a room in a separate building to the hotel and it was very quiet.
Other than the very firm bed we enjoyed our stay. Perhaps a little on the pricey side.
