Stayed here for one night after a wedding in the Danby Castle Wedding Venue nearby. Such a lovely surprise... The room was extremely cosy and well decorated- Rustic yet not at all outdated. A lovely warm welcome on arrival, especially from the lady behind the bar who also showed me my room. I went down for a quick drink on my own before bed and even the regulars made me feel at home. The gentleman who looked after me at breakfast was a superstar too. I left feeling extremely guilty, given that feeling a little bit worse for wear, I wasn't actually able to eat my breakfast but everything looked great. A huge amount of effort is put in and he worked non stop to make sure everyone had everything they needed. All in all a fantastic stay.

I would have been happy to have stayed a little longer!

We stayed one night after attending our friends' wedding at a nearby venue. The staff were very helpful with checking in arrangements so we could get into our room late after the wedding. The room was large, very clean and well equipped as was the ensuite bathroom. It's a small, very rural village, so there's ample free on-street parking close to the inn. The breakfast was good, with reasonable choice, including a substantial cooked traditional English breakfast and included in the room rate.

I'd say the bed was a bit short for me, although to be fair I'm above average height at 1.86m. I still slept OK!

I had such a brilliant stay here. I was travelling for work and was therefore by myself. Upon entering, I was made to feel very welcome. I was shown to my room which was lovely - very comfortable and well equipped. After getting settled, I decided to pop down to the bar for a drink, only to be met by lots of lovely local musicians, who had just started to gather to play, sing and drink together. They were all very friendly and extremely welcoming and I had a really lovely hour or so sat listening to them perform. I had a great night sleep and a wonderful cooked breakfast in the morning. Thank you for making me feel so welcome!

We enjoyed our stay at the Duke of Wellington. We were given a friendly welcome from all staff and we liked the country pub ambience. Our breakfast was excellent and the restaurant menu was very good. I liked having the bath in our en-suite. We plan to return in summer, to enjoy the countryside.

The rural village location suited us, as we were going to a local wedding. However, the narrow roads meant we should have allowed for a bit longer travelling time. The village (Danby) is at least 12 miles from Whitby.

Absolutely lovely place and location, great room,

We are both vegetarian (no egg) , so a few extra mushrooms/beans (one ramekin between 2) / toast (one slice each) etc would be appreciated. I noted that a single traveller got 2 slices of toast! Especially as we weren't eating all the 'expensive' meat stuff. Luckily , we're not that greedy at breakfast but still had to ask for one more slice of toast (got one between us!). Would still definitely stay again though, great place. But it would be nice if there a tiny.corner of the freezer for a couple of vegetarian sausages! Perhaps have a questionnaire on booking about dietary requirements?

Everything. Very cozy, clean, and calming. Located in a quaint village, with a local pub running downstairs. The bedroom is classic country cottage style, just beautiful, and they even have radio and some classic literature for guests to read in the room. The breakfast is top notch, freshly made and delivered to the table by the gentleman who runs the inn. The overall service reminded me of old time hospitality that feels refreshing to experience, would highly recommend.

We stayed for two nights as guests to a nearby wedding. The location was very handy, the scenery was beautiful, the bedrooms were modern and comfortable, the staff were lovely and friendly. Very comfy bed, plenty of hot water. The pub had a great selection of alcohol free drinks. They did stop serving and close pub at 11 so there was no noise from the pub in the rooms after this time.

The check out time was a little early at 10.15 which was only advised to us on the last morning during breakfast, this meant we did have to rush to pack to get out on time which was not ideal the morning after a late night! Probably best to advise it upfront, when I had asked upon check in it was advised as 11am.

Stayed here for a wedding down at Danby Castle. Room was clean and tidy. Minor down side for myself is that the windows appear not to open in the bedroom. Breakfast was decent and service both then and in the bar the previous night was good also.

Not a complaint just an observation for taller people.... Mind your head! Due to the buildings age many of the doorways are very low so be warned it does hurt if you're not careful!

It’s a friendly place used by locals and has a nice atmosphere. The location is great. Whilst the food isn’t exciting, it is very well done and of good quality.

Like so many such places these days, with profit margins squeezed, it’s a bit “shaggy” round the edges. Clean and tidy, but things like the shower heads just don’t fit the brackets which can make having a shower a bit of a challenge. Water is good and hot though and the pressure is good.
