The Pelican Hill is in a class of its own. The grounds are absolutely magnificent and its roman inspired architecture is "exotic". One feels transported to another time and place. Service was absolutely amazing. Everybody was super nice, room service was impeccable. The pool and the sunset views from the restaurant are very special.

Food was above average but not remarkable. Rooms are very spacious and comfy but somewhat a bit dated. We stayed in Room 426 which we found quite noisy once you stood on the balcony. When we asked to move, we were told that the 400s are the most sought after but it's hard to believe as they are directly above the Newport Coast Drive, which is almost a highway. Views of the ocean are beautiful but you won't get any sunset there. Based on the map, only rooms 408-414 & 401-406, are looking directly out West.

Villas did not have any views as opposed to regular rooms, also was looking forward to more restaurants in the resort, the cafe in the lobby area had limited working hours, if you wish for a hot drink you should either go to the only restaurant in the hotel or order in-room dining.

Staff was genuinely friendly and helpful.

Clogged bathroom sink, slow slow tub drain, clogged room sink (was not important to us but still. For one night of stay to have my daughter wait for plumber before she could bathe was off putting. I had to call plumbers back because for some reason they left the bath drain pulled out and I needed their help to put back in which sucked up more time etc. Not the relaxing experience I'd hoped for. However, in all fairness, it wasn't the end of the world.

Marketed as a 5 star hotel which it is at physical attributes but a lot of the Food And Be enrage facilities are shut or restricted services.
