The owner, Paul, and the Housekeeper, Tracey, are lovely and generous with their time and knowledge of the house and the area. They were also very understanding in regard to our much delayed arrival time and they both insisted that we were not inconveniencing them (although I think we must have!) The star attraction is the house itself, which has been exquisitely restored to its historical grandeur and is steadfastly maintained so that it can operate as a fairly busy Bread & Breakfast. If it hadn't been so hot and muggy, we likely would have made use of some of the spaces downstairs that encourage one to sit down and read a book or have a discussion with a friend.
Breakfast was not as exceptional as we expected based on earlier reviews. There were freshly scrambled eggs, but no fresh baked goods, and instead supermarket sliced bread. The same muffins and bagels were on offer during our three days there. There was also a large display of fruit that had attracted flies (it was very hot when we visited). However there were fresh berries and a terrific assortment of jams. When I told Tracey that we were vegetarian, she went above and beyond and whisked the bacon out of sight lest we feel disturbed. Also, be aware: our room was described as having a private bathroom, but -- in contrast to the other bedrooms--the bathroom was not en suite. It would have been nice to know what to expect.

Spires, steeples and turrets decorate the area around the Delano Homestead. The Town Hall,( built by Richardson of Trinity Church, Copley Square fame) the George H. Taber Masonic Building, the Unitarian Memorial Church, the public high school (which looks like Hogwarts, the Tabitha Inn, the Millicent Library, ( built like an Italian Renaissance Palazzo) with many beautiful homes throughout (like the Delano Homestead!) The Delano Homestead was the home of FDR’s maternal grandfather, who made his fortune in shipping and the opium trade. There were many books of the people and places of the New Bedford whaling area. Our host was knowledgeable about the history, families that built Fairhaven and the New Bedford whaling and fishing lore. The host and assistant were absolutely lovely. A breakfast in the palatial dining room with French toast, eggs and good coffee. A pantry was made available to us at any time, stocked with fruit and pastries The king bed was like sleeping on a cloud, not too soft or hard. There were three beautiful windows that had panel shutters to keep out light or cold. There was a fireplace and amber lighting . This surely was a wonderful place to get stuck in a snowstorm! .

It is hard to list all of the things that we liked, rather loved, about this B&B! The style, the attention to detail and the quality of the furnishings that Paul has assembled in this historic home, the wonderful breakfast that Sharyn put together and her charm, and the chance to walk around this interesting neighborhood would top the list. This really is a special place, and not to be missed if you are in the area.
Frankly, and I am not one to hide dislikes, I cannot find anything at all to say. Everything was first-rate, nothing was off, one really gets the feeling of living at a very different time and place.

The breakfasts were great, as was the location. Tracey was very friendly and frequently asked if we needed anything. Paul was also very friendly and helpful with recommendations about things to do in the area and restaurants with great food, service, and ambiance.
The property was quite old which was part of the attraction. However, a few repairs or updates would have improved the venue.

A very warm welcome and nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Lovely breakfast at a time of your choice. Property and room was as pictured. A couple of good restaurants within a 5 to 15 minute walk.
Didn't find the common areas or chairs in the room comfortable for relaxing, though personal preference others would have.

We were warmly welcomed by Paul on our arrival, given a tour of the beautiful house with lots of information on its fascinating history and very good recommendations for places to eat and visit. The breakfast was excellent, served by Liz in the dining room. We knew nothing about Fairhaven itself when we booked (we'd been drawn by the FDR connection), but, as well as being attractive, it turned out to be a really interesting place with several past residents who'd played a significant role in the history of the US. We'd highly recommend a visit to the local museum to find out about it. Also don't miss the Whaling Museum in New Bedford.

It was really interesting learning about the Delano connection to Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the historical records and photos were a bonus. Staying in a historic mansion is really special. The room was comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and our new hostess was very helpful. It was not too far from the ferry terminal to Martha's Vineyard by uber. Walking around the little town of Fairhaven was very memorable.
Bus transport from Newport to Fairhaven was limited even though it is only 45 minutes by car.

We had two perfect days / nights at Delano Homestead Bed and Breakfast. Our hosts Paul and Sharyn fulfilled our every wish. The house and our room were tastefully decorated and very comfortable. We had delicious breakfast and even had very special guests in the garden one morning: turkeys! We would travel to Fairhaven again at any time and can recommend the Delano Homestead Bed and Breakfast! Thank you Sharyn and Paul for this great time with you. See you soon (hopefully)

Beautifully Maintained house and property with a private outdoor area to enjoy. The mansion itself was impeccable and tastefully decorated. Breakfast was ample and delicious. Guest access to kitchen was especially nice.
We wish there had been a working fireplace in the living room for chillier days.
