Loved so many things about this place. The first thing that got my attention in this hotel was their patio with fireplace. The location is great with close proximity to so many downtown locations. The overall ambience of the hotel was so cool, room was clean, bed was amazing and the daily smores in the evening by the fireplace in the patio was so relaxing. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast being included saved a lot of time and effort in planning the day properly. Parking was a bit pricey in the hotel but we managed to find alternate free/cheaper options with street side parking. Additionally, they have so many items such as bikes, scooters, beach chairs, picnic blankets and so many others to rent for free based on your needs.

Bathroom tub and shower in our room were not that great. Not that bad to request a room change though

Fantastic location. Could walk everywhere, safely, and at night. Close to markets, festivals, shopping, tourist attractions (e.g. museums, the arts, nightlife, parks, waterfront, etc.). Also loved the patio, including the games, the nightly s’more event, and how neighbourly people became because of it. I also enjoyed the breakfast being included. Remarkably quiet considering that it is so centrally located in the old downtown.

I didn’t like the price of parking. We found a lot across the street (could see it from breakfast) that was $15 rather than $24 for the 24 hours/day. Some confusion when we booked through booking.com. Room stated it had a shower but not a toilet. It did of course, but had to verify through phone calls. Also didn’t like that the bar closed so early. The patio is such a perfect place to hang out. We wanted to stay, and not go out. Glad you can buy beverages at the little kiosk at the front desk. Also, the breakfast bananas were consistently brown. I suspect they were put in the fridge.

When we first arrived at the hotel, we weren’t impressed with the position in town — it didn’t quite match our expectations and we questioned our choice. But as we settled in, things started to shift. The location turned out to be ideal, the room was clean and comfortable and the on-site facilities were much better than we’d anticipated. Rose was very knowledgeable at the front desk, the restaurant served up great food, the complimentary breakfast was generous and well done and little touches like the kids area, free hire of equipment, complimentary S’mores by the firepit and the relaxed happy hour added a real sense of charm. What really changed everything, though, was the painting event hosted by Srhawn on Saturday. It wasn’t just an activity — it created a real atmosphere of fun, creativity and community. By the end of our stay, what started as a questionable choice had completely transformed into one of our most memorable and enjoyable getaways. Thank you Srhawn and the team at Hotel Zags.

The only downside to our stay was having to leave — everything was so comfortable, welcoming and well thought-out that we genuinely didn’t want our stay to end.

People were always helpful and friendly. The location felt safe (especially compared to other parts of downtown). It was also convenient to walk to other parts of downtown and there were many nearby bus options that were convenient to go to other parts of the city. Really the convenience was very satisfactory. The garden area was very nice to sit in. In general the condition of the hotel was quite nice. I would come back here, if they keep the current price points.

Generally everything was great. I only did not enjoy the amount of offer emails I got in the meantime. The other thing I did not love was the use of plastic during breakfast. I wish they gave out normal and reusable plates and cutlery and cups, instead of the plastic ones - there can be steps taken for sustainability.

Very convenient location for my needs. I was rushed for time when I checked in, and had to resolve an issue with my room when I returned around midnight. The night manager was very kind and resolved my issue by relocating me to another room.

My initial room had a strong perfume smell, so I was worried that all of the rooms were scented. I was having an allergic response. However, it was evidently caused by a previous guest who had used that room. I was relocated to a room with no scent issue. The continental breakfast was not too impressive. You can toast your own bagel. Have a banana. Coffee in a small disposable cup. This is free, but there's a $30 amenity fee. Parking cost $40 a night.

The staff was wonderful and accommodating. They informed me about what to expect (housekeeping) and were very helpful and kind. The room was really quiet too, I didn't hear anyone above, below, or on either side of my room! That's rare for a hotel. Oh, and the freezer in the mini fridge actually kept things frozen! I had a personal sized bag of ice that lasted my entire stay of 4 nights without melting! The hotel itself was great!

The server at the restaurant forgot to put our food orders in, then when he was reminded, he ended up giving our food to another table. And we had to actually ask him to bring us the check so we could leave for an event. We ended up being late because of the delay. He was really charismatic, but not very apologetic about the mistakes. I had a lot of trouble locating the entrance of the driveway upon my arrival.

The variety of different kinds of things you could do to entertain yourself. Arcade machines, games, s’mores night and a pop up event for small businesses owned by women. It definitely wasn’t your usual set up for a hotel. My son loved it. We had 2 very rainy days and the hotel offers umbrellas. They suggested things to do in the area which was great.

The breakfast could do with updating. Sorry, but it was not good at all. The hotel itself was a little cold in temperature. I didn’t feel like you could walk around in a t-shirt , definitely needed a sweater. If you want to go anywhere then plan walking. I was expecting the hotel to be downtown for the convenience but it’s on the outskirts. That’s no reflection on the hotel itself though.

The room was clean, nice, and quiet. The staff was so friendly when I arrived and continued to be friendly the entire stay despite my needing three new keys. The games, equipment, quick breakfast, and relaxing entry were all a bonus. The Wifi was great. The actual shampoo and conditioner dispenser was really lovely. I hate those small waste bottles. The parking was easy and I liked the electric car charger and had not expected that. I will come back. I want to play more in Portland. The location was perfect. But, really what will bring me back was how nice all the staff were. I felt like they cared that I was staying there.

Nothing. It was great. And thanks for the microwave and cutlery on the floor.

The staff at the front desk is amazing, very friendly and acoomodating. Love the game room, we played a few games as well as Mario Kart on a big screen and had a couple of beers one night, the other night we had s’mores in front of a fire at the patio which was lovely. WiFi works perfectly. Location is great, with many options for public transport nearby and a Market store at walking distance.

The Microwave was not in the room, it was right next to the elevators and we had to walk there when we want it to use it, a bit inconvenient but not a big deal. Phone in our room was not working but who uses them anyway, there was one in front of the elevators in case we needed to call front desk without going down. Breakfast was just ok, I expected some form of fruit juice and either sausage or ham but none of those were available, plus the only form of eggs they had was boiled for the three days we stayed.
