Location was great. Right snack in the middle of downtown. Walk out the front door and you’re walking around all the shops and restaurants. Nice view of the city from the rooftop.

Shower stall is extremely narrow and I have a slender build. Anyone overweight would be banging from side to side if they were able to fit in. Parking is an issue. They charge $30. (rounding off) Street meter parking stops charging at 6:00 p.m. and restarts at 7:00 a.m. Grab a spot near by and save $30. Feed the meter in the morning ($1.00 an hour) and go back to your room for a longer rest.

The Hotel Alex Johnson is in a great location with a fantastic rooftop bar that affords views of the Black Hills and Rapid City. Our king bed was comfortable, the room was quiet, and the blackout blinds were so effective we didn't realize it was daylight when we woke up the first morning. We will definitely stay again if we return to Rapid City.

The parking situation is a little challenging. Valet is quite expensive and the parking app for street parking wasn't working properly, which is not the hotel's fault, but it did mean we had to keep moving the car around.

I loved the location right in the center of Rapid City and the fact that the Alex Johnson is an historic hotel made my stay very special. Also, Cynthia, at the front desk was GREAT, VERY HELPFUL!

The room smelled a little like cigarette smoke and I think it was the carpeting or AC. The hotel offered a deep cleaning free of charge and I was told the rooms are about to be renovated with hardwood flooring.

Such a beautiful hotel. The staff were wonderful, especially Cynthia! Comfortable bed. Small bathroom but the shower products were great.

The valet situation wasn’t great. You have to use valet unless you want to get up at 7am to fill the meter. We thought we’d get a text when our car was ready but we waited a long time with no word and it was waiting outside for like 40 minutes. Our car had mud splashed on it when we got it back too.

A great place to stay, and the restaurant on top of the building had the best steak in town during stock show. A place I'll definitely stay again...

The strange people at the front desk came across as being a little rude, but the normal people were quite friendly and helpful.

The room was delightful! Very comfortable in every way! Also, the staff went above and beyond in helping us. Especially Ms. T. Long who went outside to be sure I understood the directions to an ice cream store. She also helped me with printing airline passes. Later she helped my husband with the elevator. I definitely will highly recommend to hotel to anyone!

Seemed to be an extra long wait for food at the adjoining restaurant.

It was a family reunion & u helped make it a good start! We have a similar bed back home in Mn. as the bed in our room was high off the floor & harder to get out of it! Thanks for a good night's stay, Gary Paulson

We were ending what we called our "Dirt Trip" where accommodations were basic, so the Alex Johnson was definitely a welcome change of pace. The lobby is a beautiful example of rustic opulence, the desk staff was exceptional, drinks on the roof delicious, gift shop ladies interesting... Here's the best: hotel right across street from the Elk Theater, an old movie theater, which was playing Barbie!! Great way to finish a special trip with our 27 year old daughter. It is also in a great location, but unfortunately, our time was too short to explore much.

I like that is wonderful place great folks and services however the pet friendly part could be a bit better i love I can have my pets but to have to take them out the room to go get Ice or go down to the Car is crazy un helpful all is all it was a great stay beautiful hotel and we will be staying again

Had a great view on 9th floor. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. they let us check in early! Nice vibe.

Parking is tough. Plus loiters near hotel made us uncomfortable. Especially when we had to leave at 4:30 AM and 4 loiters (adult men around 30 to 40 years old) were just hanging near hotel.
