Excellent location, perfect to spend a few hours in San Jose. The hotel is just across from the national theatre and just around the corner from Plaza de la Cultura. The breakfast was excellent with a wide selection and served on the top floor with a view of the city.

The bathroom design is really awkward. The shower has frosted walls one of which faces the bedroom, so basically you are showering in full view of the other guests. That was awkward for us as a family of 4 with two teenager daughters, and we ended up having to take turns in the room. Also, there is no door to access the bathroom and another frosted door to the toilet.

The location was great, adjacent to the museums that I wanted to see. The staff at check in/check out and the restaurant were all incredibly helpful and kind. I was not at the hotel very long (one night), so I'm sure there would be more to share if I had been there longer.

I was amazed at how quiet my room was from any street noise. I was on the second floor and did not hear anything from outside the building. Unfortunately, there was a family in the room next to me, and I could hear children screaming and crying and an adult coughing through much of the night. So, it seems the noise barrier between rooms is not very good, also this seemed to be an exceptionally loud group.

Very nice location and great value. The valet/bellman Carlos was just fantastic and gave us lots of tips about the city. The checkin was easy and professional and our front desk agent (I’m blacking out on the name, young gentleman James?) was just amazing. We loved the hotel design, the room was very pleasant and the view was great! It was a nice surprise that they are serving breakfast before 6am :) Very happy we decided to stay in the city even though we had a very early flight next day - no traffic to the airport.

We liked the small size of the property. It's located in central San Jose within walking distance of many tourist attractions. The beds were very comfortable and the room was large. Towels were very soft and the robes were good.

We stayed in a room featuring an open shower. We'd have preferred the shower to be more enclosed. A single sink is a bit cramped. The TV control would not work, and no one came to repair it after speaking with guest services.

Everything but the price of breakfast! We were standing there the two of us and asked the price. The waiter said $37 and we said okay and ate. It was delicious! We he brought our ticket it said $74! We were shocked! It was $37 each! Ridiculous! I literally paid $37 for a bowl of cereal, fruit, plantains, and some eggs! My fiancé paid $37 for French toast sticks, coffee, and some plantains! What a ripoff!!!! I probably will not stay again just for this reason.

Price of food. Breakfast is WAY over priced! We ordered room service for dinner and it was good and not as overly priced as breakfast.

Location, location, location! Convenient for walking to museums and downtown restaurants, shops, etc. Hotel nicely remodeled with modern decor and amenities. The free breakfast was outstanding - wide selection of food and beverages.

Eating dinner at the hotel was outrageously expensive - over $100 for a couple of mediocre entrees and one glass of wine. Lots of more affordable options with delicious food nearby.

Breakfast was excellent. We received early check-in and a upgraded room. The room was very clean and nice and came with a refrigerator. Overall the hotel is clean. They also have live music on certain nights.

The main check-in area could use some sprucing up and used glasses were left over from previous parties at tables. Dinner and drinks were subpar. I would venture out to other places for dinner.

I love the Gran in San Jose especially since the staff go out of their way to help with any requests or questions. The facilities are beautiful and the rooms are extremely cosy and welcoming. Johanna, the manager, always goes above and beyond to help make my stay wonderful. The clerks, Jason and Jorge were also very helpful. Jason always greeted me with a very friendly smile. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the bellman who took the time to help me when I was having internet issues due to my own personal devices and even asked if I wanted a different room to see if that would help. Oscar in the restaurant is also wonderful as were the other restaurant staff. Highly, highly recommend this hotel.

Your staff are exceptional.. Luis & Hernan the bellman are so helpful and create an atmosphere of trust. If ever need anything i call Luis and its done. Salvador & Connor and Mauricio in the restaurant are the best. A delightful experience I've never had in a restaurant before. It's like eating at a friend's house rather then a restaurant. A wonderful experience.. Cherish your employees because they are the soul of your hotel.

There really is nothing I don't like. That's why I've stayed at your hotel over a dozen times over the last 4 years.

Perfect location, safe and very walkable. Hotel has a great mix of old world and modern convenience. Staff were lovely and breakfast buffet was very good (assuming you have time to order eggs)

5-star hotel, but one pet peeve is the powdered/gross eggs in the buffet. Likely saves $ but gives a 3-star feeling. Mattresses are quite hard, but that's personal preference. Shower unfortunately is 'rain head' above but that makes it difficult to wash, needs a wand.
