I can’t speak highly enough about this property. From the moment I arrived and checked in with owner Paul, I knew I had found my home away from home. This property is stunning. The furnishings and decorating are next level. The attention to detail is incredible. And the curtains 😍My room was gorgeous ! The heater was on when I arrived. Beautiful bath products, fluffy towels. WOW !! I was given a tour of the lounge and dining rooms and everything explained perfectly. I had the best nights sleep in the most comfortable bed. Breakfast was another wonderful experience. I met owner Brendan who prepared my food and I have to say his mushrooms are the best I’ve ever eaten ! These guys are so friendly and welcoming. I feel like I have met my two new brothers. I travel for work and will be staying at this amazing property every fortnight from now on 😊

The whole experience, from being contacted to ensure my arrival time, to the check in process, to the tour of the house. It all felt so comfortable and welcoming. The House is amazing with eclectic attention to detail with the décor. My kids loved sleeping in a four poster "princess bed". Although the property was fully booked the night we stayed, the place was exceptionally quiet. We only realized other people were there when we went for the breakfast, which is, in itself, phenomenal. I cannot recommend the place highly enough.

I wish we could have stayed longer

The detail and splendour in periodic decor, the comfort, the cleanliness, comfy guest lounge with sherry, the small scale, the friendly chatty welcome by Paul, and his obvious enthusiasm for quality service, the information available on the house history. I loved the big canopied bed. Off-street parking is always a winner. It's just gorgeous!

The electricity went off during a TV crime show due to someone tripping the safety switch, but was on again 20 or 30 minutes later

Paul and Brenden made the stay incredibly welcoming. They shared their passion for the property telling us about their history with it and how it has been set up today. The breakfast that come with the stay was a great way to wake up prior to check out. The room included a guide to Devonport and surrounds providing great advice and suggestions on our stay. Paul also helped with organizing a booking at a local restaurant he suggested. The restaurant did not disappoint. The room was an experience in its self with a lot of period pieces and the effort put in by the the hosts. With the modern upgrades making the stay very comfortable. Given the opportunity, we will be coming back.

This property is amazing. Upon arrival I was so excited to explore this beautiful historic house. Our bed was so, so comfortable with luxurious linen and great pillows. We felt so at home and were made very welcome by Paul and Brenden. We were sad to leave after a delicious breakfast. Thank you so much Paul and Brenden for being wonderful hosts and maintaining your beautiful hotel for us to enjoy. Look forward to coming back again on our next trip to Tassie.

It was an amazing experience. The building has been skillfully renovated to its former glory by Paul and Brendon. It was like stepping back into the 19th century with all the conveniences of the 21st century. The Hosts Paul and Brendon were great.Paul is like a walking encyclopedia on the history of the Grand and its previous occupants. Brendon is a brilliant Chef, the breakfast was magnificent, and a master decorator. His skills are on display through out the Grand on Macfie.

We liked everything about it.

Paul and Brendan were friendly and knowledgeable (the history of the place is really interesting). Our rooms were clean, comfortable and private. The decor makes it feel luxurious and like a real holiday away (like travelling back in time)! Breakfast was delicious. Convenient location - walking distance to restaurants and the middle of town. I would visit again in a heartbeat and I highly recommend it.

Our all-too-short stay at The Grand was perfect in every way. From the warm, genuine greeting from the gracious and generous hosts to the exquisitely furnished rooms, our time in this historical house was a delight. Our graciously and most comfortably appointed bedroom had wonderful views over Devonport - and the bed itself was heaven. The included breakfast - cooked to order - was truly delicious. We will return, but for longer next time.

1. Breakfast far exceeded the normal B&B reakfast experience! This was both regarding quality, range of choice, and speed and attentiveness of service. 2. The bed was very comfortable. 3. The location is splendid. 4. The reception was friendly and helpful. 5. Onsite parking was appreciated.

1. The darkish wall colours and the very large numbers of hanging paintings, tapestries etc., along with fairly low wattage lighting, gave the hall and bedroom quite a sombre ambience. 2. The fridge was good, but there was no freezer either in our room fridge or in the upstairs lounge fridge, and we had an esky with some fresh produce but were not able to freeze the ice bricks overnight.

I have a liking for older architecture, furniture, etc. so this stay was a treat! So beautifully brought back to a magical era, the owners know what they’re doing and are respectful of their lovely house. Short walk down town to great pub food. The breakfast menu is impressive and the food delicious.

Not really a criticism…. I booked a room with a river view, which our room did not have…. but I did not make a fuss as our room was lovely and was on the ground floor which meant no struggling up stairs with luggage, so not really a minus.
