As a GenX, the theme of the decor for the entire hotel was awesome and brought back a lot of memories. The configuration of the room reminded us of hotels in Denmark, Sweden and Germany as there was no wasted space and the use of elevation allows them to create a more compact layout. Loved the subtle lighting in the WC (toilet room) and the family-sized shower, as well as all the design details saturating the space. I thought having a queen over queen bunk was a neat idea but I have suggestions...
The head clearance for the main (lower bunk)bed was very low (we are average height, maxing at 5'8") and many skulls were cracked during our stay. I thought the shower walkout directly connecting to the only external door was pretty gross and some sort of interim space would've been more hygienic. Honestly, in 2025, it would be more innovative to offer King over King bunk beds. People want room to move and stretch out! They have a Bodum French Press in the room and provide freshly ground beans for you to make coffee; only enough for one pot at a time AND (in an effort to be more "green") don't want you to throw the grounds away. We bleed coffee when cut and don't like having to ring the main desk each time we want more coffee.

Hotel Zed from beginning to end was fantastic. Atmosphere & property: great! there was a dj playing on saturday at Roar which made for a wonderful welcome to the property and while we sipped on some cocktails after checking in. Bike rentals available and/or short walk to the beach. Having both a restaurant and small coffee shop on site is such a wonderful bonus - everything you need is on the property and then some. I appreciate the efforts they've taken to reduce waste and take care of their community (coffee and cream/milk for your room are provided in reusable containers, portion of sales go to local Indigenous communities). The room: spacious and comfortable. Shower pressure was good, bed was comfortable, decent sized mini fridge in the room was helpful for us.
The pillow was too big for me to comfortably sleep on my side. There was a dog next door that had been left in the room for hours and unfortunately spent a lot of time barking. We did call the front desk and the handled the situation the best they could.

I had an amazing stay at Hotel Zed Tofino! The design of the hotel is super fun and unique, and I loved the stylish vibe. The soundproofing was excellent—I didn’t hear any noise from other rooms, which made for a very relaxing stay. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the hotel had everything I needed. It was great that they offer bike rentals, as well as paddleboards and surfboards, which made exploring the area so much easier. The on-site restaurant and café were both convenient and served delicious food and coffee. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would definitely stay here again!
The only small downside is that the hotel isn’t right on the beach, but it’s still close enough to enjoy the ocean and everything Tofino has to offer. Honestly, with everything else the hotel provides, it didn’t affect my stay at all.

We enjoyed how the Hotel was interactive- more than just a lobby & restaurant. We inadvertently forgot a small pillow from home,in our room when we checked out. Initially, the first time we phoned about it, we were told that it was our responsibility to arrange for shipping it back to us. The second call to Hotel Zed, the person answering immediately said that they could send it to us ~ no problem. We received it back yesterday. It may be just a pillow , but it has extreme sentimental value.
I’m old school . The times I had contact with the front desk, it felt like I was dealing with Bill or Ted ( or a girl from that time) from Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure, & the female we dealt with at the front desk appeared half naked.

Beautiful location, funky decor, excellent room. Staff was incredible!! Well appointed for families and had a welcome Gen x vibe to it
The restaurant was not well conceived for family eating. I’m sure more adult tastes would LOVE it, but it didn’t work well for my kids, despite them not being fussy eaters - it was too different for them. Also not celiac-friendly - the burger was not GF available except as a ‘lettuce wrap’, which was actually a bed of arugula (great for mom, not great for the 11 year old)

Hotel Zed was the best hotel we've ever stayed in. Not only was the room spotless (even the shower curtain which even high-end places miss sometimes), but all the amenities made the stay relaxing and fun! It was perfect because there were so many places to hang out and be so even when we were at the hotel, it was fun. My husband and I loved having coffee downstairs in the sunken lounge areas (hello two fireplaces; we miss you dearly) and I spent plenty of time in the spotless sauna/hot tub area. Did I mention that there were always fresh towels and that area was clean and maintained EVERYTIME I went in there? You can rent bikes and all sorts of beach stuff (surfboards, etc) at the attached building, Swell. From the hotel it is a short bike ride to various beaches and you can bike downtown from the hotel. Oh, and cold, fresh water in the lobby at all hours. Hotel Zed is way beyond a 10.
Nothing.

Where do I start? The design of the hotel and of the room was fun, unusual and overall esthetically pleasing. If you like old timey, colorful vibes with rotary dial phones - this is the place for you! The staff were great as well! From the warm welcome from Myles to very helpful Amanda (she highlighted everything on the map for us and answered every question) to Ki (sorry if I got the name wrong) being so nice and getting the fire going outside for us.
The pillows were a bit too big for our liking but apparently we could have asked for smaller ones. The restaurant downstairs did not leave us too impressed (do not get the risotto).

The space was thoughtfully designed, blending style and functionality seamlessly. The restaurant and bar offered outstanding food and service at a reasonable price. The live music and a sunken games lounge elevated the experience, adding a touch of sophistication and fun. The hot tub and sauna facilities were the perfect way to unwind, making for a truly memorable visit.
The space is beginning to show signs of wear, with scratched walls and broken arcade games detracting from its original appeal.

Great location, funky atmosphere, great staff. We went over New Years as a last minute getaway and the price was right. The hot tub was lovely, nice and large and hot.
Beds and linens should be upgraded. A proper coffee maker with coffee in the room rather than a bodum would've been better in my opinion, though I understand the funk factor. The sauna needs servicing, it never got really hot due to its shape and the gaps in the door.

The website highlights the many amenities and yet you have to experience this place in person to appreciate it fully. It was among the cheaper options when we booked for Tofino hotels and yet was among the best values we have experienced. The attention to detail in their retro theme, many amenities, and unique updates on their rooms all with excellent service was amazing. As my 7 year old said “this is the best hotel we’ve ever been to”. Definitely a must stay for families headed to Tofino.
