Location was amazing, just a few minutes away from old town in a quiet street. Our room was very clean, and has a rustic charm to it which I liked but I think to get the hotel to stand out the room(s) could use some updating (but without ruining the colonial flair). The courtyard is beautiful and if I had more time I would have loved to sit there and just read for hours. Staff was friendly and always very quick to open the gate. I understand why guests don't get a key for the gate so we weren't bothered having to wait a minute to be let in. We only stayed one night but would have gladly stayed longer.

Breakfast was the standard we had in every other hotel we stayed at so nothing special and a bit too little food but that didnt bother us too much as we wanted to go and have breakfast in old town anyways.

We loved the historical and stylish building with the beautiful tiles and green garden with small pool. For some this might feel as a bit ‘old’, but we actually like to stay in a hotel with character.

Be prepared for a shower that is not really hot, but honestly the water doesn’t really ger cold in this city! We liked the refreshing shower. Communication is not always easy when you don’t speak /understand all of the fast Spanish they speak in Cartagena, but with the aid or Google translate we managed!

Our stay at Casa Real del Cabrero was great. The casa is charming, with a lovely garden and plunge pool for cooling off after a day of walking the walled city. The staff was so helpful and gracious. Everyday we had a delicious breakfast of fresh juice made from tropical Colombian fruit, fresh bread or homemade arepas, local cheese, jamon and eggs prepared as you like them. Last but not least Colombian coffee with hot milk. The casa is a three minute walk from the walled city, located on a quiet street next to a park and a church, across the street from Casa Museo de Rafael Nuñez. The location is ideal if you want a respite from the tourist scene of the walled city. There is also a lovely local beach a 10 minute walk from the casa, Playa Marbella. I would recommend Casa Real del Cabrero to anyone traveling to Cartagena and would absolutely stay here again.

Casa Real del Cabrero is a beautiful boutique hotel about 10 minutes from the old town. Our stay was fantastic. My daughter and I reserved their biggest room (#9), which is a beautifully decorated 2-story sweet with a very comfortable bed and separate bathroom upstairs and a large living area with a big bathroom, kitchen and a living room with several sofa sectionals that could serve as extra sleeping space. The space is beautifully decorated as the owner is an architect. The staff were very kind and helpful and the breakfast was tasty.

I liked it all! The property itself was beautiful, lush with greenery and tucked away from the street in front. It felt like walking into a setting from a Gabriel Garcia Marquez story. The building itself was a historic Spanish colonial style that kept its charming original touches though all the modern amenities you'd expect were there. It was mango season, and there were mango trees throughout the courtyard that you could take fruit from and eat. There is nothing like a mango fresh off the tree! While we were there we only saw one other group--it was quiet, which made it the perfect stay for family. The staff were all very attentive and kind, and the breakfast was wonderful--fresh and filling!

The decor is absolutely gorgeous, the setting and the dappled light of the trees, the thoughtful areas to relax, the choice of art work and furniture, all was exceptional. The photos don’t do it justice. The bungalow which we stayed in was absolutely perfect, we really appreciated having a living room space to relax in, as well as the downstairs shower room for rinsing after the beach / pool.

The walk into old town is very quick (4 mins) but slightly awkward across a busy street, without a crossing. Someone with less mobility might struggle as we had to climb over a low barrier. As we didn’t speak Spanish a short email or arrival message in the room with core information in English (or even Spanish which we could translate ourselves) would be really useful, we didn’t know for example that we had to ring the doorbell to be let in. Not a big deal at all and our host was so helpful, but just an idea for less confusion.

The hotel is outside the city walls but it’s a short walk to get there. I expected the location to be quieter than the photos suggest but in fact you can hear traffic. The breakfast was standard -fruit,eggs and coffee, which gets a bit repetitive but the staff kindly found gluten free bread for me without me asking them to do so.

My room was above the kitchen and every time the front door bell rang I could hear it - including when returning guests rang it at 4:00 a.m. for the price of the rooms I think the toilet seat in my bathroom could be replaced. It was mouldy, stained and revolting. I liked the hotel but thought it was a bit pricey.

The property grounds had a great location, just outside of the walled city, very close to the ocean, a supermarcado just around the corner and very close to the airport. The staff were very kid and courteous. The breakfast was average but still hearty. The coffee served could do better. We loved how it was nestled amongst the green habitat.

I think the breakfast could be improved with freshly brewed coffee. We felt it was a bit overpriced.

I love this style of hotel where you feel like you're living in an old house converted into a hotel. Lots of greenery, nice pool. Cool and calm. Good breakfast. Short walk to the walled city. Secure parking - we'd use the special requests box on the booking form to request parking and when we arrived they were ready for us.

The wifi was unusable in our room but good elsewhere. Our room was poorly lit and the power outlets weren't placed conveniently - however, this is all consistent with this style of converted (probably historic) building.

We stayed in room 8 at the front of the property. It was very spacious and quiet with a comfortable bed. The dipping pool was just what we needed after a hot day of roaming around Cartagena. The breakfast was an excellent way to start our day. Marta was amazing with a great sense of humour and made sure we had everything to make our stay wonderful.
