We were in Room 105 which was on the front of the hotel. The young lady on reception that checked us in was charming and very helpful. She also spoke very good English. Generally all the staff, on reception and in the breakfast room and bar, were helpful and very pleasant. We were able to pull up in front of the hotel to unload and load our cases which was very helpful as the hotel has no parking. Parking was on the main square less than 100m away. There are both underground and overground spaces, with the former being the more expensive. It is very busy and you may need to queue and wait for a space. The hotel reception, breakfast room and bar were grand, historic and tastefully renovated, retaining many of the buildings’ original features. Our room was immaculately clean, freshly decorated and well appointed with an antique wardrobe, crisp white bed linen, a good size flat screen TV, desk and chair, USB charging points at both sides of the bed, high quality black out curtains and windows opening onto the street. The shower was excellent with an easily controllable thermostatic shower, and a tiled enclosure with glass doors. All finished to a high quality. The street was quiet during the day and night with little traffic. The garden area was beautiful with numerous high quality cafe tables and chairs as well as sofas with coffee tables. It made a very relaxing space in which to have a drink from the bar, or a snack from the menu, or, on warmer mornings, your breakfast.

This is a beautiful elegant hotel with a lot of old-world charm. The room with garden view was lovely, plenty of space, high ceilings and a comfortable bed. Lovely helpful staff. The garden itself was a particular feature, a great place to sit out with a drink and a snack in the evening. I would definitely book this hotel again.

If I were especially nit-picking I might mention a sticking bathroom door which didn't close properly, but it really didn't matter as everything else was perfect!

A great find for a night during our road trip that exceeded our expectations. Staff was super friendly, we got a free upgrade and they helped with our luggage, the accommodation and rooms are beautiful (classical high ceilings), we ended up getting the breakfast because the spread looked so delicious (plenty of healthy and less healthy options). I still dream of it! It was easy enough to park not too far away and walk into town (about 10-15 minutes to the harbour). We were sad we didn't have more time to enjoy La Rochelle!

The breakfast was delicious we had the 8euro option of bread pastries and jam, tea coffee. The fresh bread was gorgeous. The staff were very welcoming and eager to help. There was a very calming atmosphere throughout the hotel so easy to relax.

Our only gripe would be the lighting in room 106, it does need a lamp on the desk where the tea fascilities are so difficult to see.

Beautiful hotel, excellent staff in a fantastic position to explore La Rochelle, everything within easy walk and although the hotel does not have parking the secure car park 100m away is perfect and not ridiculously expensive. A perfect getaway gem. Breakfast is plentiful and you have a gorgeous courtyard garden where you can eat breakfast or relax with drinks from the bar. Highly recommend

Nothing - it was perfect

I had a wonderful stay at this accommodation. Excellent central location in walking distance to everything. A friendly welcome and courteous and helpful staff at all times. The room and bathroom were of a decent size. The basic essentials are at hand. The bed was comfortable and the bathtub was an unexpected delight. The only one downfall is that although the doors and walls look soundproof, they are not. Unfortunately I was waken each morning (I had hoped to sleep in) early from the noise made by the cleaning team. And a neighbour guest who thought it ok to be banging on their bedroom door at 530 in the morning for over 30 mins. The management took my comments to this appropriately. The garden is a nice place to unwind and have a drink. Breakfast choice was abundant. Nice that is goes to 1200. Pet friendly but the charge per night of eur 20 I find over the top. If one is lucky one can park on the street in front of the hotel (8 euros for 8 hours 9-12 and 1409-1830). If not, one can park in the public underground parking two minutes away but unfortunately not as cheap as the street parking. Woukd highly recommend this place and look forward to my next visit hopefully soon.

Beautiful building a 10 minute walk to the harbour. Lots of good local restaurants, shops and facilities.

Our room was adequate, but the bathroom was small. The shower doors did not seal closed, so our bathroom floor got soaked. We had to mop up with towels so had soaking towels each day. The bathroom needed to be a wet room ideally due to its size.

Lovely old hotel - at least where we were was. Great courtyard terrace for drinks and breakfast. Great location for exploring La Rochelle on foot (or by hire bike/scooter). Parking was close and stupidly cheap for a town trying to minimise cars. The staff were all fab too - helpful and chatty, happy to give recommendations on places they like to eat and drink too.

We had a suite - basically two bedrooms and an en-suite bathroom. And although the rooms were large there was an absence of furniture - it could have done with things like a coffee table, a fridge/minibar, and a TV you can stream too (it had two big TV’s) - I’m a little bemused why in this day and age I can’t simply stream from my phone or tablet to the TV in a hotel room?

It’s a really lovely hotel, with super friendly staff, super clean rooms, an excellent breakfast and you’ve got A lot for your value. The parking is straight next to the hotel, it’s just few minutes walk to the center and dogs are warm welcome.

There was nothing what was wrong. It was a nice stay in a wonderful hotel in a lovely city.

You won't find a more professional and beautiful staff of people anywhere in La Rochelle or possibly in France! We were treated like royalty and with such kindness. The hotel is softly modernized but still Old World France and First Class. It's decorated tastefully and beautiful and perfectly located in central La Rochelle with a gorgeous garden and bar. It offers a delicious and varied buffet breakfast to enjoy. It's very quiet and private feeling but super convenient to all. I will always return to Le Champlain and would put it in my top 3 hotel experiences of all time❤️💐Thanks to all my angels at Le Champlain!😇❤️
