Hotel du Simplon is in a fabulous location, within walking distance of sights, yet with a real neighbourhood feel. There are excellent restaurants and bakeries nearby and both rivers are a short walk away. The beds are comfortable, with fabulous pillows and snuggly duvets. Air conditioning works great. Staff is helpful and accommodating, with excellent English. The breakfast room is bright and cheery and the breakfast simple but generous. The building is quirky and homey and there is secure bike parking. We loved Lyon and would stay here again.

We spilled something and when we wiped it up, we realized the floor was not very clean.

They were very nice and let me use the refrigerator in breakfast room. And the guy in the reception was also very friendly and helped me with my luggage that didn’t arrive the same day that i arrived. Location is good is not next to the main station but it is very close to felixbus stop and subway and the other trainstaion of the town. And it is close to the main atractions. I really enjoyed my visit . Thank you

The staff were amazing, so helpful and friendly. The beds were also so comfortable and the facilities and rooms were well cleaned, a pleasant stay over all

The rooms were a little small and we could have had some cupboards would have been welcomed, living out a suitcase for 5 days in a small room was a bit challenging. Also a fridge would have really helped in the heat wave, to keep water and drinks cool

Well located, close to Perrache/bellecour with easy access to public transport. Plenty of supermarkets around. Cozy setting. Clean, well maintained. Staffs were kind and helpful. All spoke a certain level of English. 24h reception, which made things easier for early check out.

Not exactly my dislikes but certain things could have been better: For that price, I could expect a gym and a slightly larger room with a mini bar/ mini refrigerator.

We actually didn’t end up staying at Hotel du Simplon because they couldn’t accommodate our request for a quad room, so instead they moved us to another one of their properties in Vieux Lyon, Le Phoenix Hotel. This was a treat! The location was great and the room was awesome! It was 2 levels with a bunk bed on the first loor and a queen bed on the second.

There were physical room keys I stead of key Cards, and they had to be turned in at the front seat anytime we left the hotel and then re-checked out upon our return. Also, there was no refrigerator in the room.

I like the FOH staff. They were all very accommodating and warm. They were very patient with my questions and always greeted with a smile. They made it a point to make my stay, though brief, memorable.

The bathroom was quite small. The shower closure was also broken that it took some effort from my part to close it when bathing. The halls were quite dark yet lights were motion sensitive. I can hear the noise from the other rooms.

The hotel was in a good location for walking around the heart of Lyon. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean. The lobby was attractive. We reserved a parking spot (for additional cost) which was extremely valuable since we arrived around midnight, and parking on the street was challenging.

This was November, and the only way to cool our room down was to open a window, which allowed street noise in along with the cool air. (Our experience is that hotels typically prohibit Air Conditioning from being turned on in the winter months, and this one was no exception.) We were a bit disappointed that our reserved parking spot required us to move the car by noon (same as check out time of the room.) The alternative public parking option ("Perrache") suggested by the front desk staff was a bit intimidating, and we chose not to attempt parking in that multi-purpose facility. Bottom line: for us, it was challenging to drive and park in the dense area around the hotel.

Staff were very helpful. I asked for restaurant recommendations and received a handwritten list of 4 or 5 establishments. The top one was one I had seen myself when googling. I went there and was very satisfied (except I ate too much). The location of the hotel was also good, being close to railway station and pedestrian precinct. There was also a good breakfast served from 6 am, which suited me perfectly to catch an early train.

The bathroom was very small (ca 2 square metres) and basically a plastic box mounted in a corner. Everything worked fine, but the complete floor was wet after taking a shower. Although on a relatively quiet street, there was quite a bit of traffic noise early in the morning from delivery and refuse trucks.

Eve first receptionist very helpful and good Breakfast and cleaning staff great But watch out for the customer service at this 3 star hotel! Not much!

At such high price no free coffee or tea in room or lobby. When we asked if there was coffee in room or lobby our first day after a long walk in town. We were shown coffee automat. “Sure we have-let me show you how it works, coffee or tea, cups here’. When we checked out they CHARGED for 3 cups !

The hotel's location is great, easy walk along the river Rhone and also to Lyon's historic centre. There are plenty of shops, bakeries, restaurants and cafes nearby. The breakfast buffet has a fantastic selection. The room is large and comfortable bed, small but very modern and clean bathroom. Internet worked fine. Overall I loved my stay and would book again. Staff in general were great, especially the lady who did both my check in and check out, I regret not having taken her name for a special mention here. I thought the hotel offers great value for money too.

The air conditioning wasn't working on the first day, but I was informed of that and the hotel offered free breakfast as an apology, which was great customer service. However, even after the air conditioner was fixed, there was a constant noise in my room (25), which made sleeping a little challenging, so I had to use earplugs. I mentioned this to a member of the reception (not the great one who checked me in/out), but unfortunately she just dismissed as "no idea of what the noise could be" instead of getting someone from maintenance to go and check that out. Apart from that, a great stay.
