The location, 15 minutes outside of the old town is wonderful and gives beautiful views across the city and beyond. The rooms are basic, but comfortable and pretty well-equipped. The large windows opened fully and on a tilt mechanism, allowing you to get as little or as much fresh air as you wanted. There’s an honesty system for drinks and limited snacks, which came in handy for a late night beer. The breakfast was superb - fresh, tasty, good quality and great selection. The staff were exceptional, and the ability to hire a decent e-bike for €20/day a real bonus.

Very little. A mirror in the room would be helpful, and the towels were a little thin and with no way to dry over 24 hours, meant that they were a little damp the next day.

A very beautiful hotel located on top of a hill. Parking is free, but note that some spaces are on a very steep section. Parking there in reverse was sometimes an adventure, but also a fun challenge. Within a 10–15 minute walk you are already in the city center. On the way back to the hotel you do have to go uphill. Fortunately, if you follow the main road the climb is very gradual, which wasn’t tiring for us, though it might be more difficult for people with reduced mobility. The very last part to the hotel is a short but steep 20-meter climb, even for us. Our room was very clean and had a beautiful view over the city. Outside the hotel there is a terrace with a great view as well, where you can relax. The staff were very friendly and provided us with useful information about the city. Breakfast was included and we really enjoyed it. Since the hotel is on the edge of the city, it’s also very easy to get out and explore the surroundings. Within half an hour we reached beautiful hiking areas in the Black Forest. We also took a day trip to Colmar and the Alsace region, which are less than an hour’s drive away. Upon returning, there were always enough parking spaces available (early August). We found Freiburg to be a very pleasant city and we’d love to return. When we do, we’ll definitely book Caritas Tagungszentrum again. Highly recommended!

If you have limited mobility, the walk back to the hotel might be a bit challenging.

Caritas Tagungszentrum is a training and conference center for Caritas’s extensive Catholic service operations in this part of Germany. It appears they offer lodging to travelers as a way to more fully utilize their capacity, especially on weekends. There are several buildings on the campus and they have a distinct institutional feeling, but nonetheless are immaculately clean, well kept, with nice room features like a proper desk and chair, and reading and other lamps. The breakfast room is in a different building from the rooms, but the walk is short and pleasant, and the quality and variety of breakfast offerings was excellent. The campus is located in a very nice, quiet suburban area of Freiburg along a beautiful tree-covered hill that was great for a walk. Finally the staff was very friendly and helpful.

My only issue was that the bed sits on a couch-type frame, which led to the mattress sagging a bit under my weight (210 lbs). I ended up pulling the mattress, which was of good quality, onto the floor, and slept great. Otherwise everything was excellent.

Beautiful setting, with flowers and nature paths all around. My view of the city and distant hills at sunset from my room was spectacular. Breakfast was a good mix of options, with good coffee and friendly staff. I arrived after reception was closed but was able to use the self-check-in box and easily got my key and into my room - the instructions were very clear. I would definitely stay there again.

This is not a complaint, but just a note that the room was very small, with a twin bed. It was brilliantly put together for being so small, but I would choose a bigger room if I was staying more than one night.

If you are looking for a hotel away from the busyness of the city, this is it. I booked a single room and I am a solo traveler. The view was incredible and the room was cozy. The breakfast provided good. I arrived after the office was closed and the instructions and key drop was easy to figure out. I did walk to old town, which took about 25 minutes and a lovely stroll through a park.

It is an uphill trek to the hotel and again to the room. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with mobility challenges as there is a lot of going up.

Very nice staff, excellent location: close to the city center (10 min on foot), but also at the edge of a pretty woods and a bit elevated. This gives a nice view. It is generally very calm, quiet and peaceful. There are pretty spots with chairs to just be in nature and enjoy the view. I rented an e-bike, whitch was great, because Frankfurt public transport still has immense unrealised potential and there is a good amount of bike lanes. The e part makes for a nice and easy ride, even up steep inclines - if you remember to turn it on. The room was small but nice, really small bed, good new shower and toilet and everything was very clean. WiFi worked like a charm.

I prefer bigger beds.

While not directly in the centre of Freiburg, it was conveniently located about 10 minutes walk outside. It was mostly very quiet and peaceful (though there was some noise, whose origin I could only speculate on, from the room above at about 3am). Bathroom corner is small but functional. Breakfast offered lots of options and was very good. The WiFi also worked very well.

I suppose the location won't be for everyone, since it requires a walk up a rather steep bit. I was in Freiburg to hike/walk so it didn't really bother me.

There are multiple buildings for the rooms. The automated key system was perfect. The room I stayed was designed for one person to stay and maybe study. The room was very well designed with all the details considered. The bathroom was new and very clean. There is no luxury but everything you need in a handy way. Strongly suggested. The location is also close to city center and a great park.

It is on a hill. This was not an issue for me. Some people may not like walking uphill.

The location part way up the hillside on the edge of Freiburg provided a super view of the city, and good access to the high ground and forest on the eastern side of the city; and the route towards the city centre was downhill. The accommodation, facilities and breakfast had no 'frills', which suited me well, and were a good standard.

It is a long way on foot from the station, and the last part of the route is uphill.

Lovely staff, fabulous variety and quality of breakfast (hot food including scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages, mueslis, bread, cheese, cold meats, teas and coffees, fruits, juices etc.), lovely location and very comfortable rooms. The hotel also has a great view over the city and close to city park and nearby hiking.
