The hotel provides a healthy buffet breakfast with plenty of choices, like small omelettes, plain yoghurt, different seeds, granolas, cheeses, hams and a selection of fresh fruits. The staff happily brought hot milk with the coffee when we asked for it. The small garden on the back was very nice, with plants and flowers surrounding a few sets of chairs and tables. The self-service of cold drinks, including wine, beer and prosecco, was a plus.

We would have appreciated a lounge area inside, with soft chairs, for rainy evenings. Also, the little garden was closed at nights - we had warm summer evenings and would have liked to sit outside when we returned to the hotel after dinner. It was possible to sit in the breakfast room, but it’s not as comfortable.

The owners and staff are amazingly gracious and helpful. The room was absolutely beautiful in a classic and elegant way. The updates made to make the rooms modern did not strip away the historic charm of the room, common spaces in the hotel, and fine details - it is elegant and classically gorgeous, but with updated bathrooms and plenty of modern power outlets. The breakfast is wonderful. The location gives very easy access to the main train station and is in easy walking distance of the Munsterplatz and other places visitors come to see. We loved, loved, loved this hotel.

The internet was a little spotty, slow and challenging to connect to at times. Many of the tv channels did not get a signal. Both of these are extremely minor things that did not take away from how much we loved the hotel and appreciated the kindness of the owners and staff.

Very close proximity to the train station was a big plus for us after a long day of traveling. Very nice room, friendly staff, and the old town is a short walk away. Breakfast was nice but a bit pricey as both children had to pay in full, so we skipped that for the second day. Freiburg as a destination was an unexpected highlight.

It was no problem for us, but as there is no elevator we saw quite some elderly people struggling with their suitcases on the stairs. That being said, the long stairs are also part of the charm.

Hotel was located close to the railway station and within walking distance of the city centre. Staff friendly and hotel clean. Breakfast was fine - the usual continental offerings. Shower was small, but fine.

We were on the top floor and as there was no lift had to carry a number of heavy bags up to our room, after a long day's travel. However, this was mentioned in other reviews and I understand why it is not possible to have a lift in the building. If we stayed here again the staff suggested we request a room on a lower floor.

Attentive reception, cozy antique design inside the hotel and in the room, good quality of furnitures, comfortable bed, heated rooms, quiet side street despite the proximity to the train station, sparkling clean bathroom, wifi, potable tap water. We were happy to be proposed an option of no daily room cleaning service and towel exchange. Special remark goes for delicious breakfast, the dining room design, and the music selection, which makes breakfast itself an experience and perfect start of the day.

Nothing significant. Perhaps, a bit striking smell of air freshener in the room in the beginning, but it disappears after keeping the window opened for some time.

The hotel is idealy situated, near the old city center and central train station, all comodities are less than 5 minutes away by foot, and it's beautiful outside and inside. The breakfast is incredibly good, probably one of my best memories about the hotel. The street is calm, we could sleep with the window open.

Nothing, we loved everythng about our stay. Maybe the air conditioner wasn't too powerful but it was not really an issue as the weather wasn't too warm.

The room was spacious, splendidly clean, and had a large, beautiful balcony. A modern bathroom and excellent bed, and all of that within five minutes walking of the train station, the theater and numerous cafés and restaurants. Here’s two things to illustrate further how Hotel Barbara made me feel right at home: One, instead of a mindless mini refrigerator in the room there was a bigger one in the lobby, filled with good quality drinks. Second, the TV in the room was unplugged. Unplugging the TV is usually the first thing I’d do in a hotel room, here, for the first time, similar thinking from the hotel staff. Lovely.

The staff were very good at being friendly but not overbearing. We felt welcome straight away and had good communication in advance when we asked questions. The building is beautiful and our room unexpectedly had a balcony. I appreciated having a kettle in the room but also loved the lounge area with free hot drinks and homemade biscuits. There were so many thoughtful and unique touches. When I arrived I was unwell and the person on check in very kindly took me through the process swiftly in English. I then switched to my basic tourist German which the staff patiently endured. I find it really nice to be allowed to develop my language skills but I know that doing so can test the patience of busy bilingual staff. We had to leave quickly to catch an early train, the hotel is perfectly positioned for this.

Our only disappointment was not being able to stay longer.

Location was excellent, right near the train station and the old town. Easy access to the tram system as well. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Pillows were not good. Shower a bit small, which i find typical in older European hotels, but still something that i don't really enjoy. No elevator, and staying on the top floor was a bit of a pain, but especially when you check in and need to carry all your stuff up 72 stairs.

The staff were lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was wonderful typically German, delicious. The location is brilliant not too far from the station and 10 mins walk (at a very gentle pace) to the munster. Also its close to a park which is lovely to have green space nearby in the city.

Only very slight problem was we were staying on the very top floor (4) and we had a large suitcase between us.
