We have been staying at the hotel for decades and appreciate the fact that it really hasn’t changed much at all! Great value for money, very friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms and a beautiful location

It’s sad that the hotel restaurant is not open in the evenings anymore so we had to go out to eat every night. Not a great problem but it just meant doing extra research as not all local restaurants are open every night

Decent motel-style accomodation in a outer suburb of Freiburg. Rooms were clean and comfortable if a bit dated with some relic fittings, such as redundant soap dispensers. There is a lift to the upper floors from reception; however, a flight of stairs from the carpark to reception, so you're not going to be able to avoid some physical exertion with luggage.

It was a shame that the restaurant was not operational for dinner (though it was open for breakfast). A bit of a hike (~1.5km) to the limited local dining options or train station into Freiburg proper - but this is not something the hotel can change.

The hotel is approximately 6km from the central train station (Freiburg im Breisgau, Hauptbahnhof). Public transport is available right at the hotel driveway via Bus number 17 and then Stadtbahn (City tram) number 1 goes straight into the city center. To get to the hotel, simply reverse and catch the number 1 Tram and then the 17 Bus. It takes about 25 minutes in total and costs 2.4 euro per adult. When getting off the train and then onto the tram, simply ascend the stairs that are parallel to the main street directly from the platform number 1 and catch the number 1 tram in the direction of "uphill'. The rooms are clean and quiet and have everything most people will need. Wifi was good. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The breakfast in our case wasn't included as we were out most mornings before 6am, however on the one morning we did have the breakfast, there was plenty of breats, meat, eggs, yoghurt, cerials, meusli, tea, copffee, juice etc. For anyone who's travelled in Germany before it's the hotel staple! Everything was great.

We took a triple room as there were 3 of us, it was a bit of an effort to get bags to that part of the hotel, the last 3 floors to our room was via stairs only, We travelled heavy because we were there for a sporting competition and we had a lot of gear with us. Others may not find this an issue, and really it wasn't really a great problem for us either.

Large room, with sofa, desk, table and chairs and balcony. The room and bathroom were very clean. Staff were very friendly. It is right beside a bike path and bus stop to the centre. A nice natural setting close to a river with mountain views. I was able to leave my back in storage on the last day.

Location is on the edge of town, possibly favourable if arriving by car from a motorway but one must interchange with a tram, then bus if arriving from the train station. The hotel does not have a restaurant and local dining and drinking options seemed limited and a 10-15 minute walk away. There is a good supermarket a 5 minute walk away and there is a small bar at reception for a night cap.

From the moment we walked in and received our warm welcome from Niels, we felt totally comfortable at Hotel Löwen. Niels was quite charming, helpful and informative. He pointed us to the perfect restaurant which suited our needs. You could not ask for a better professional than Niels to greet the guests and perform his duties. The hotel had ample free parking for our vehicle. Breakfast was well presented and very fresh and tasty. The hotel is well maintained and very clean.

It did not bother us, but if you have a large amount of luggage and mobility issues, getting to the 4th may be a problem for you.

This Hotel is a pure nostalgic experience - best sleep ever and woke in the most calm and nice area ever;)

A cooker to make the coffee in the room in the morning - but - the tap water was more than warm enough;)

The receptionist, Neils, was the best! He gave great recommendations for where to eat and events happening in town the next day. We also really enjoyed the breakfast. There was a wide variety of options and it was all high quality.

A lovely clean hotel with great staff. Sebastian was especially welcoming. They couldn’t do enough for us . Would definitely use again if ever in the area

There was not very much to like it could have been nearer to the City but there again it wouldn’t have been the same. Only slight complaint was the shower fixing was loose but that’s easily fixed

All German hotels, in my limited experience, serve a very nice, substantial breakfasts. I very much enjoyed having a late drink at the reception/bar and chatting to the very friendly staff member on duty late Friday night.

Unfortunately, this hotel’s restaurant is not open for dinner. With the full car park I observed (mid-October) I believe they could do well if a late-day meal was available.

The most wonderful place to stay, relax, and enjoy. Beautiful nature, cosy interior design, proximity to EDEKA, Oida!
