Pleasent place, very sweet&kind hosts, cleener can not be, change of sheets every day. Stores and restourantes with great food & clothes all around the hotel. Not to mantion closeness of the Beach and frendly personel of beach places. I was working from the neer beach place Seracose,or something....eating and drinking cheaper then in the city. Baja Beach place must see and its close as well....at least for taking pics...like a milion😁 Rethimno is very nice place to walk around even for 10 night. Restourants everywhere but 1 stands out...Avli!! Back to Matthias Hotel...would visit again and would not forget to close the balkony door at night!! Free parking in the street abowe Hotel...near the Pharmacy, fwe meters down the main street, is a small street that takes you there. Conviniante to know when you just arived and do not know how to reach a small street abowe the Matthias Hotel. Safe at night and all day long.

Cars and bykes crazy driving at night...MUST CLOSE BALKONY DOOR AT NIGHT. Atherwise you would think someone is driving into your room.

The room was nice and spacious with a very nice balcony and well equipped kitchen. Everything was sparkling clean.

It used to get quite noisy during the night because of lots of motor bikes passing in the street, so it was impossible to sleep with balcony door opened. The young girl at the reception was often too lazy to replenish food during breakfast so the basic things were often missing. The older lady at the reception was a lot more helpful and responsible and there were never issues when she was around.

Apartments are very clean all around. Kitchen area was stocked with everything you could need for your stay. We were left a little welcome basket which was a lovely added extra. Balcony was good sized and very clean and with a place to hang damp clothes. The air conditioning was very good and we even turned it off some nights as it kept us really cool when on. Reception and cleaning staff were very helpful and polite. The hotel was very quiet due to it being at the beginning of the season, we had the pool to ourself. Pool area was very clean with toilets and showers around the area. We didn’t use the pool bar as this wasn’t open during our stay but the supermarket was right next door. The location of the apartments was excellent with a beach just over the road with lovely beach bars. Overall our stay was excellent.

An optional extra pillow would be a bonus.

These apartments are very spacious and clean. The pool is also very clean. It is a no frills place to stay and close to quite a busy road with road noise front and back. It really turned out to be fine but it took us a while to adjust to the noise as we had just been in a quiet village. There are shops and restaurants all very close by and also it is easy to plan excursions from there too. The beach is really stunning locally although it can be windy with big waves. We had three teenagers and one was on a sofa bed that was quite firm and in the apartment kitchen. The receptionist was very friendly and attentive. She was most helpful in finding us another room for our daughter to give her more space. We also benefited from great help from reception on places to visit and good beaches for snorkelling. Rethymno is a 20 minute bus journey and a fun place to go in the evening with taxis available for the homeward run. You can watch the sunset there from the Castle which is a well attended event.

The 'extra bed' for family rooms is very firm and not great for comfort. Reception gave us a small extra mattress which helped. Some family room balconies (overlooking the pool) are extremely spacious. The balconies for the smaller sudio apartments are quite small (and close to the neighbours) but they do get the afternoon/evening sun.

Been going to the Matthias for a few years now and could not fault it, everywhere is spotless and every one is very friendly, you also get a lovely little welcome package in your room. Pool is amazing but if you prefer the beach it’s just across the road and there are shops and restaurants all around, rooms are cleaned every day with and clean linen and towels every other day.

Very friendly owners and staff. The location is great - close to the couple of beaches, restaurants, shops and bus stops. The apartment was very spacious and clean. Pool area is very nice and was not very busy, we had the pool for ourselves multiple times. We had a good time and would definitely recommend for a stay! Even though the main road was on the backside of the hotel, it was very quiet in the room.

The hotel is very clean. Our room was spacious and well equipped with everything we needed, including a nice welcome set (thank you!) and a really nice shaded balcony with a table and chairs. There are a nice swimming pools with enough sun loungers for everyone. The staff is friendly and helpful. Very good value for money. Close to shops, restaurants, beach and a bus stop are all nearby – about a 5-minute walk.

It is close to Rethymno, but not that close to being busy. Super close to the beach. There are good restaurants around. The pool at the hotel was good: if there are big waves at sea and you cannot go in, you can hang around here. They clean the whole facility every day.

The rooms looking to the street are probably less hot but super noisy: if you are not a party animal and want to sleep you need to close the window. If you cannot sleep with the air conditioning on and keep the windows open, you need earplugs

It is well taken care of. The swimming pool is nice although I did not try it as I prefer the sea. The beach is 3 mins away. Lots of restaurants around. The apartment was big, the 2 extra beds seemed a bit hard the first day but I did not feel it after. We stayed 9 nights. Kitchenette is fine, also the air conditioned has Sleep mode function which is useful at night. Breakfast is basic but good. I asked for butter and they brought it next day. The staff are very nice and willing to help with any requests. Daily cleaning and replace of bedsheets and towels.

The bathroom tiles are a bit old. The drying rack is a bit rusty but still usable.

This charming hotel is spacious, clean, tasty, with excellent breakfast and at a great location very close to the beach and shops. Eleni, Maria and Georgia went over and above to make me feel very comfortable and welcome. I cannot recommend it more highly.
