The hotel is very ‘quirky’ with art and installations throughout. It is like staying in a museum/ gallery/ someone’s house all at the same time! Breakfast served outside was lovely and the rooftop area was also very nice. The continental breakfast was served well and the food was fresh and well prepared and presented. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. The receptionists were really helpful and organised trips and taxis for us during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble and they took time to explain the main sights in the city worth seeing and pointing them out on a city map. Our room was large and spacious and very comfortable. The air conditioning was lovely and cool and the shower/ toilet was also a large room and toiletries were supplied alongside fluffy towels and robes. The mini bar kept drinks nice and cold and the coffee maker was useful. The location of the hotel is great for restaurants and is close to the fish market which is worth a visit. It is also near the Cathedral Square and main area for shops or for other tourist attractions along with the city tourist train and hop on hop off bus available. All in all a great stay!

There was not a lot of hanging space for clothes if you are there for more than a few days.

We loved every element of the stay. We're a couple who enjoy art and travel for cultural experiences which is why we look out for unique boutiques when we travel that balance modcon amenities with historic settings and tasteful decor/curation. That's exactly what we got. The staff were brilliant, very responsive and helpful over WhatsApp in offering recommendations. Breakfast was a generous spread of yogurt, fruit, pastries, eggs cooked your way, coffee, meat & cheese plate, cereal and spreads. It's served on a beautiful shaded balcony overlooking a square. The art curation is stunning and you can spend hours just appreciating it during your stay. The rooftop bar was a nice surprise, quiet and secluded and a perfect sunset spot with unique cocktails (note that there isn't a sun lounging terrace anymore as per the photos - instead it's bar seating). The Ortigia amenities in the bathroom were a nice touch, and we appreciated the concept behind the decor in our bedroom (we were in one of the Art rooms). Our room was HUGE with high ceilings. The location of the hotel is perfect, walking distance to anywhere you want to go in central Catania. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel, it was a real highlight of the trip.

Nothing to dislike

Asmundo di Gisira is a truly unique hotel that beautifully blends historical elements with modern design. Staying here felt like being in a real museum — every corner is thoughtfully curated and full of character. The room was comfortable and the atmosphere of the place is inspiring. It’s a perfect choice for those who appreciate creativity, art, and the authentic spirit of Catania. The only downside was the poor sound insulation. My room faced a lively street where parties went on every night until morning. If you’re a light sleeper, I strongly recommend bringing earplugs. Despite that, I had a great stay and would still recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a special and memorable experience.

Dafne and Sara at Asmundo were the best! From the moment we connected over WhatsApp before our arrival, to the end when they helped us to the car with our luggage, they treated us so well! It's basically a living art gallery/museum! The breakfast run by Anto is fabulous!! I had a nutella-filled croissant I am currently dreaming about. The meats and cheeses were heavenly. The coffee divine! And the view -- you eat all of this overlooking Catania. It is near perfection! The location is perfect. It's right on the main drag by delicious restaurants and the fish market. We had a ball!

The hotel is located in the city center, which is very convenient — you can walk everywhere. The hotel itself is very beautiful, it feels like an art gallery. Every time I return to the hotel, it’s as if I’m coming back to a museum. The rooms are very large and spacious, with all the necessary amenities. Breakfast is served on a lovely terrace with delicious coffee and a beautiful setting. Every time you go for breakfast, it feels like stepping into a new fairytale. We really enjoyed everything. Thank you very much. We will definitely come back again.

It was the most unusual hotel imaginable. It was full of art pieces all for sale. Some ultra modern art and sculptures, other floors of Sicilian antique and highly prized pieces. The rooms were large, modern and comfortable. A delicious breakfast was served outside on the terrace. It was such a surprise in this very surprising city. The hotel is situated right in the centre of the old and very beautiful city centre. The staff were so helpful, they couldn’t do enough to ensure our comfort. Our stay was brief but we will be back soon to explore the surrounding sights.

The location is perfect – very central and close to the main bus station, which makes it easy to get to from the airport. Everything is within walking distance, including many great restaurants and the main square Piazza Del Duomo just around the corner. The hotel itself feels more like an art museum, with different exhibitions and artistic elements throughout. The furniture is stunning - antique and elegant, something truly unique. Our room had a small balcony overlooking a lively square, which gave us a beautiful view. There is also a roottop terrace on the top floor that is accessible to all quests. Breakfast was a real highlight - it's not a buffet, but individually served in a beautifully arranged four-tier tray with both sweet and savory options, all fresh and delicious. Eggs are available upon request. The breakfast is served on the terrace, surrounded by greenery, which made it extra special. The staff was incredibly friendly. We really appreciated the receptionist's help - she gave us a map, explained where the main sights were, and suggested some great places to eat and a tour to Etna.

The only downside was that the square outside our window was a bit noisy late into the night. But if you don’t mind some city life sounds, the view makes up for it.

A perfect location on the oldest part of Catania. This old palace has been stunningly converted into this very stylish hotel, with real attention to detail and a glorious mix of new and old art and furnishing. The breakfast terrace is a really wonderful place to start the day.A pleasure to stay here - and excellent service; thank you especially to Dafne for all her help and Armando for a very smooth check out and easy taxi pick up to take us to the airport.

We loved absolutely everything about this very special hotel.

What a great property. An art hotel in a building that was once a palace. Our room and bathroom were huge, we had booked a junior suite. The view from our balcony was fantastic. The breakfast on the balcony overlooking the square was also a great way to start the day. The team were also amazing. Sara in particular was so helpful in arranging a hairdresser from me which was greatly appreciated. They also suggested a fantastic place to have dinner. We loved it here and will definitely be back.

That we had to leave!

The location is so convenient for doing anything in Cantania. 3mins walk to the bus station. 8 mins walk to the monastery. 3mins walk to the elephant square. Lots of good restaurants just underneath. It’s also very close to the fish markets which is interesting to explore. The setups of the rooms are creative, we have three balconies in our room. The room is very clean. The breakfast is wonderful and substantial. The view from the top roof terrace bar is wonderful. Staff Valentina and Sara have been super patient and helpful with everything. The staffs all speak very good English.

It’s not very easy to get bottled water to drink.
