L’antica Bifore sits in the exact center of old Lucca, a perfect location for exploring the city within the walls. Our room was large and very comfortable, with thick windows to shut out any street noise from late night revellers. Dante slept in the room next to ours, so you can try to feel his presence. Breakfast was very good, with fresh pastries, good juice, and assorted meats and cheeses. No eggs. Alessandro helped us tremendously with recommendations for restaurants and time saving information about transportation and entertainments. A bonus is the pizza restaurant next door, which served some of the best pizza we had in Italy, by the slice as well as whole pies. Walking the ramparts of the ancient walls is a must activity in Lucca, and they can be reached by walking in any direction for ten minutes. Explore the side streets, get an aperitif at sunset at a cafe on any one of the many piazzas, and enjoy the dolce vita in Lucca.

Incredible location, view from the window, atmosphere, and history! One of the most unique places I have ever stayed. Additionally, Alessandro was fantastic - extremely responsive, accommodating, and helpful all throughout my stay (and even after I needed to keep my luggage there and help with calling a taxi multiple hours after check-out).

Since the property is on the major street of Lucca, it can get quite energetic and lively outside below the windows during the daytime - but it's actually quite charming and gets very quiet at night.

We have enjoyed a wonderful short break staying at L'Antica Bifore, looked after with great care and kindness by Alessandro. The welcome could not have been warmer and the extra effort Alessandro was prepared to go to in ensuring we made the most of our stay is unsurpassed by any host outside of our family. The guesthouse itself is a wonderful slice of old Lucca, meticulously presented, charming and comfortable. It is also perfectly located in the centre of the old city, making all of the sights and attractions easily walkable. Our stay was during a very hot week and we were able to return at will, to relax after a little exploration. It is a great location from which to make further excursions and as a host, Alessandro is a speedy communicator using WhatsApp. We were so grateful for his suggestions, answers to questions, abilities as a negotiator and help arranging our chosen tours, tickets and transport. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much Alessandro and your family. We will be back, for sure!

There is nothing we didn't like!

This is such a special place! You could easily walk past the main entrance as it's an ordinary looking wooden door but then you go up the medieval stone staircase and into this wonderful space in the heart of Lucca. Using Google maps to find restaurants and attractions it turns out pretty much everything is 3 minutes walk from the guest house! Perfect for wandering around and drinking Aperol all weekend! We came for a concert as part of the summer festival which was just fabulous. The room was beautiful and super well appointed with great facilities including fridge, hair dryer and even ear plugs (it's a little noisy as so central but didn't bother us). We had a huge stained glass window, epic high beamed ceilings and a cool stone floor. Our host was wonderful and provided us with a breakfast in a box outside our door when we were too tired to make it to breakfast - fresh orange juice, fruit and pastries! You can help yourself to great coffee and teas for free (and wine/beer for a fee) The air con was a deliciously cool respite from the hot city afternoons when we came for a rest. Overall, we just didn't want to leave!

That I can't live there!

Beautiful old property, right in the centre of Lucca old town, was in a fantastic location, it was very clean and had everything you needed, Alessandro the host was very friendly and gave us lots of information.

We stayed in Beatrice room and it was very noisy into the early hours and then again early morning, there were ear plugs in the room 😁, I’m a very light sleeper so had limited sleep while there, it didn’t spoil our stay there though.

The owners were very hospitable and picked us up from our car so we could have our bags transported into the ZTL. The room itself was gorgeous, the windows are fantastic. Very central location which made it easy to get around. The owners provided recommendations for activities and organised tickets to the opera. We would most definitely come back! Thank you for having us!

The central location does mean it will be very noisy at all hours of the night (garbage trucks etc)

The location is close to restaurants, attractions, and shopping. The room is in an historic building with high vaulted ceiling and large windows. The building entry is nondescript but the room was spacious and the decor attractive. View from our window directly on to a church. Our host was gracious and very helpful. He was responsive to any problem and was able to get us tickets for a Puccini opera event at short notice. The breakfast was ample and the breakfast room itself offered extra space for relaxing outside the bedchamber.

The bathroom is small by American standards as it is being shoehorned into a historic space. Not a problem but some people may feel cramped. There is no elevator.

Hostest with the mostest. I do not say this lightly. He went out of his way to help us get in and out - a little complicated in Lucca. Very thankful for his kindness and generosity. Room was delightful - comfy and quiet. Felt like I was in a palace for a night. For breakfast, our host goes out and gets fresh pastries. Bed and pillows were comfy. Shower good. Windows opened onto an inner courtyard, so quiet. Right in the heart of Lucca. Would definitely stay there again.

Perhaps not such a sweet air freshener. And fewer stairs ( sigh)

We absolutely loved staying at L’antica Bifore. Alessandro was so helpful and informative, he let us store our bags and even check in a little early. He and his wife organised our tickets for the Puccini recital and sorted us a table at a beautiful restaurant for dinner. The room was absolutely beautiful, with huge windows looking over the street below. The bed was so comfortable, with quality pillows and mattress and the room was absolutely spotless. There was a reasonably priced mini bar in the room, and umbrellas by the door for when it rains. They really have thought of everything.

There is no negative feedback at all, we were so happy with our stay

Totally authentic and full of history; original structural fabric of house. Great location within the old city of Lucca; felt very much part of the community. Our host Alessandro could not have done more to help us, both before and during our stay. He was incredibly responsive to any correspondence and supplied us with great local information of where to go during our stay. Good breakfast every day where we met some lovely fellow travellers.

There was nothing that we could say anything negative about.
