Very quirky, loads of character, definitely not like a sterile hotel. Thoughtful, delightful staff sent directions with pictures and gave me a goodbye gift of goodies to eat on the train. Location excellent easy 5 min walk from train station and local buses. Warm and very comfortable in my traditional Japanese room. Bedding super comfortable and warm. Max Value supermarket close by. TV, fridge, kettle, private bathroom everything I could possibly need and use of a microwave. Loads of restaurants, cafes within easy walking distance. Fabulous place!

The pension is really well located only a ten minute walk from the station and 20 minutes from the Brick Warehouses. Despite being on a main road, it was extremely quiet at night and we got very good nights' sleep. The room was small but felt lovely and cosy and the staff were very attentive and kind. The slippers provided were the best of any of our stays in Japan - very comfy! There are no lifts but staff helped with our cases and it wasn't a problem.

Very helpful and friendly owner. Quirky design and decoration. Very clean. Quiet. Comfortable bed. Good functional en suite bathroom. Good value for the price, very central in Hakodate, a short walk from the train station, tram line and bus station. We then rented a car and the Pension has private parking spaces under the rooms.

The room is small and it was tricky at first as we had two large suitcases, but once we had stowed things away we got a working system in the space.

I loved it, my partner not so much Beds were futons in our room, which we had to put out ourself which was just unfolding them and super easy We got a room with a private bathroom

The bathroom was a bit tired and could've done with a deep clean Our room had an upper window that had no curtain. I had an eye mask to cover.my eyes but of I didn't that would've made sleeping in hard

The hospitality was fantastic. They sent a welcome message before arrival, including detailed instructions including photos and landmarks of how to get there. They also gave guests a little packet of snacks at check out time (super sweet!), and sent a thank you message after check out. This is the kind of hospitality that a person always remembers. The man running the place is extremely kind, friendly, and welcoming.

The most amazing hosts you will ever find! Sooo kind and helpful and they even gave a lovely snack pack to each of our 3 daughters! The room was the perfect size and I had the best night’s sleep - the futons were the most comfortable I have ever had and such cosy pillows! We came here after reading the reviews and seeing the decor and we just loved everything about our stay here and would definitely stay here again!

A lot of effort had been put into making the rooms cosy and decorative. The room was quiet. The double glazed window was effective. They had a couple of resident cats that were living a very comfortable life.

The bathroom tap controls were complex and the instructions had no English. It took a while to figure them out. However, they were fully functional. The difficulty was more ours than theirs.

I wouldn’t exaggerate if I said that this hotel is my favorite in Japan. It was our second stay here, we stayed in Puppy Tail last fall and rebooked it for our second trip to Hakodate without any doubts. The staff is friendly, the amenities are exceptional, the vibe is literally immaculate. Staying here feels like staying at your grandparents in the best sense, very cozy and comfortable.

We loved this hotel! The staff were so friendly, the room was spotless, the bathroom modern, the Japanese futon beds extremely comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, and I've never had so many items supplied in the room. We were given a snack on returning to the hotel one afternoon and a bag of souvenir snacks when we left. The location was also really good, just a 7 minute walk from the station. It was a fantastic experience to stay in a proper Japanese hotel. We booked it because of the high rating on booking.com, even though it is only 2 star and were not disappointed. Thoroughly recommend it.

The only negative was very poor wi-fi.

Amazing! What a cute little hotel. The interior had a vintage design and our room even had a retro (working) telephone. The rooms were very clean, spotless and the bathroom had a shine. Some of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed at. The amenities are great, they even had Shiseido face cleansers. The hotel staff was so sweet and even gave us a goodie bag full of snacks ahead of our journey. The location is great, less than five minutes from the station.

Everything was really great. If you like your accommodation in a particularly scenic location, this isn't it but it's centrally located and comfortable. The rooms are very small but have everything you need.
