Very quirky, loads of character, definitely not like a sterile hotel. Thoughtful, delightful staff sent directions with pictures and gave me a goodbye gift of goodies to eat on the train. Location excellent easy 5 min walk from train station and local buses. Warm and very comfortable in my traditional Japanese room. Bedding super comfortable and warm. Max Value supermarket close by. TV, fridge, kettle, private bathroom everything I could possibly need and use of a microwave. Loads of restaurants, cafes within easy walking distance. Fabulous place!

Location was really good, super close tp Hakodate station The staff were really nice and helpful They allowed us to keep our bags the morning of check out so we could go exploring without dragging bags around or paying for a coin locker The cats in the reception area were.suoer cute as well, even if they ignored me The design and furniture of Pension Puppy Tail is definitely very retro, which may not appeal to everyone. I loved it, my partner not so much Beds were futons in our room, which we had to put out ourself which was just unfolding them and super easy We got a room with a private bathroom

The bathroom was a bit tired and could've done with a deep clean Our room had an upper window that had no curtain. I had an eye mask to cover.my eyes but of I didn't that would've made sleeping in hard

The most amazing hosts you will ever find! Sooo kind and helpful and they even gave a lovely snack pack to each of our 3 daughters! The room was the perfect size and I had the best night’s sleep - the futons were the most comfortable I have ever had and such cosy pillows! We came here after reading the reviews and seeing the decor and we just loved everything about our stay here and would definitely stay here again!

We loved this hotel! The staff were so friendly, the room was spotless, the bathroom modern, the Japanese futon beds extremely comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, and I've never had so many items supplied in the room. We were given a snack on returning to the hotel one afternoon and a bag of souvenir snacks when we left. The location was also really good, just a 7 minute walk from the station. It was a fantastic experience to stay in a proper Japanese hotel. We booked it because of the high rating on booking.com, even though it is only 2 star and were not disappointed. Thoroughly recommend it.

The only negative was very poor wi-fi.

A lot of effort had been put into making the rooms cosy and decorative. The room was quiet. The double glazed window was effective. They had a couple of resident cats that were living a very comfortable life.

The bathroom tap controls were complex and the instructions had no English. It took a while to figure them out. However, they were fully functional. The difficulty was more ours than theirs.

Amazing! What a cute little hotel. The interior had a vintage design and our room even had a retro (working) telephone. The rooms were very clean, spotless and the bathroom had a shine. Some of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed at. The amenities are great, they even had Shiseido face cleansers. The hotel staff was so sweet and even gave us a goodie bag full of snacks ahead of our journey. The location is great, less than five minutes from the station.

Everything was really great. If you like your accommodation in a particularly scenic location, this isn't it but it's centrally located and comfortable. The rooms are very small but have everything you need.

I wouldn’t exaggerate if I said that this hotel is my favorite in Japan. It was our second stay here, we stayed in Puppy Tail last fall and rebooked it for our second trip to Hakodate without any doubts. The staff is friendly, the amenities are exceptional, the vibe is literally immaculate. Staying here feels like staying at your grandparents in the best sense, very cozy and comfortable.

Really like the way the owners run the place. It is almost like staying in someone's home. The male owner makes small talk whenever he sees us and gives us useful information, like the weather forecast for the day. There were many personal touches that made the stay a happy one. The decoration of the room was more feminine and we found it very pretty. The old fashion telephone in the room actually works. In staying at the hotel, the guests take off their shoes and leave them at the entrance. They then wear the slippers provided to walk to their rooms. On the day when we returned in the rain back to the inn, the owner, without us knowing, helped to dry our shoes. The next day, we had dry shoes to walk in. Very grateful.

The owner sent directions on how to get to the place before we checked in. However, we had some trouble locating the place as there was not sign in English outside to indicate the property. A sign of some sort would have been helpful. To get food, one has to go to the JR station area. We were not aware of any convenience store nearby.

I always love this family style hotel, gives you a great home like feeling when you enter. The owner is friendly, knows basic english. They have a little garden at the front of the building, carefully maintained and it is even more amazing than in picture. The location is about 3 minutes walk from the Hakodate rail station, 5 min from the morning market. Room is not big, but more than comfortable to accommodate us.

Best location, less than 10 mins walk from station, the owner is very courteous, the room is very clean.

The terrible room wifi quality, especially in the morning when you have to make traveling plan. There is almost everything you need in the room but the shower room is too small that you will hit everything with every movement. No big enough cup or mug, and two of the windows above are with no shield which waked up me about 5 am.
