It was so convenient to the train stop and had modern amenities yet the ryokan old fashioned charm. Loved having our own open air onsen and also experienced the public onsens there and they were beautiful as well.

This facility was conveniently located right by touristy stores, eateries, and the train station. The attention to detail with the food (dinner and breakfast) was impressive and the baths were clean. We arrived at around 5pm, checked in (staff there speaks English), informed Yuki-san (person in charge of our room and meals) the preferred times of our meals and headed out to explore the neighborhood. Given the times for the baths and meals, the experience is really about enjoying the meals provided and relaxing in the baths and the room because there's nothing else to do. Suggested breakfast time was 7:30-8am, which allowed an extra quick soak in the morning before the 11am checkout time (grateful for this).

We noticed a cobweb at the doorway of our room but it wasn't a big deal though.

This was a beautiful onsen hotel with a beautiful room. We went for our anniversary with our son. Our assigned staff person, Kaoru, was wonderful. She set us up with tea and a snack when we arrived and asked when we were going to dinner so she could set up my son's futon while we were out. She is also the one who set up our lovely breakfast in the morning. My husband's and my beds were in a separate room on a raised surface, and my son slept on a futon in the main room. We had a patio with two chairs and two pairs of sandals on the patio. The patio looked over the river and to a forest area. There was a man made waterfall that went into the river, so the sounds were so peaceful. We had the room with the private bath and that was outside on a patio as well with a view of the trees. We could put hot spring water and regular hot and cold water into the tub. We chose to do the breakfast at the hotel in the private dining room; we did not do the dinner there and instead went out. The breakfast was a typical Ryokan breakfast that was very tasty with lots of options and more food than we could finish. The onsen was wonderful. The one I went to for the females had two sections, indoor and outdoor patio behind a wall for privacy. It was a wonderful experience and I had the pools to myself for quite awhile. (My husband said his pools had two sections as well.) They switched off the male and female spas later, but I didn't go to the other one as we also had our own private tub to use. My husband woke up early and tried out the other side of onsens, so he went to both sets, and he said they were pretty much the same as the ones he had gone to the day before.

I liked everything about this room and the onsens. My son was surprised that the fish for breakfast had the eyes, but I thought the fish was delicious, and I ate his fish too.

The entire experience was off the charts Fabulous. The traditional Japanese rooms were very cool, with large opening windows overlooking the river. We booked a private open-air onsen, also overlooking the river, which was a great experience. But, by far, the most amazing part of the stay is the fish-forward 20-course dinner and 15-course breakfast served in your room. Every bite of food was absolutely delicious. We'd read the reviews from people saying to come hungry, so we were careful to starve ourselves all day in anticipation of the feast to come. My wife and I travel to eat and have had amazing meals in 60+ countries, and this stay and food experience ranks in our top ten. That said, if you're a steak and potato person, this may not be your thing. To summarize our experience, we agreed we'd hit a home run after taking in the onsen, but decided we'd hit a grand slam after eating our fabulous meal.

Staff were super attentive. We only stayed for one night, but were very well looked after. Checked in early which we were grateful for. Our room overlooked the river which was beautiful. Loved that the bath was outside so we could relax while listening to the river and the trees. Dinner and breakfast were both Japanese style, not something we were used to but definitely did not leave hungry. One of the staff was allocated to us for both meals, and although she didn’t speak much English and we didn’t speak much Japanese, we felt very well looked after. Yukata are recommended for meals, which was a lovely experience. Close to everything in Hakone.

Could have done with an introduction to the room. This was our first time in a Ryokan so having someone explain to us what was required would have been appreciated so we didn’t disrespect the culture.

Very traditional and memorable dinner and breakfast experience. It is a lot of food and you get to try new dishes that I never would've tried otherwise. Private onsen was lovely - it has the option to fill tub with hot spring water, hot water, or cold water which was great bc summer is very hot already. Nice staff, able to drop off luggage before check in and leave it at the property after check out.

I'm fairly forgiving about sleeping arrangements but the mattress on the floor was more uncomfortable than I was okay with. Back hurt in the morning and didn't sleep that well. Blanket was stained and there was a stray hair in the bathroom drawer that wasn't mine. Small errors but still.

The highlight was the staff. Everyone was so kind and helpful, making our Hakone stay unforgettable. Especially staff member Shoko, who was incredibly warm and welcoming! She took good care of us, and ensured we were always comfortable. Her service, along with the rest of the staff, was thoughtful and truly sincere. The food from breakfast was delicious and well prepared. The room itself and open air bath was also amazing. The view from the bath was truly breathtaking and the sounds of the water was extremely peaceful. Our family wished we stayed longer here (:

Nothing honestly. If I had to say, maybe if the refrigerator had more room for personal food and drinks lol.

The location is great as it’s very close to the train station and the facilities are incredible as well booked for a private onsen room and it’s so cool. The staff took great care of us and they are super nice. They dressed us up in kimono and we enjoyed our dinner in the private dining room. The breakfast is insane but if you are used to traditional Japanese breakfast it could be a bit much.

The only thing is probably the breakfast and too bad they only have one massage chair in the hallway so I didn’t feel like using it.

Just steps from Hakone Yumoto Station, this ryokan is a more economical option compared to others in the area. Rooms were spotless with a lovely river view, and we enjoyed the clean onsens, fully equipped with toiletries, hairdryers, and other amenities. Comfortable yukatas were also provided, and the staff were friendly and attentive. If you opt for half board, meals are served in the room, so staff will enter to set up and put away the table and futon in the evening and morning—something to note if you value privacy. The meals were beautifully presented, though portions were quite large and tended to be on the salty side. Overall, a relaxing and authentic ryokan experience!

+ Onsen was amazing. Public were mostly quiet but we used private too which was worth the spend + Breakfast and dinner very impressive, Japanese kaikesi style. It can be quite tough going if you don’t love all kinds of seafood 😬 but it’s definitely a wonderful experience + Right next to train station - saves trekking through Hakone with luggage

Not really negatives but considerations for people booking: - We didn’t have balcony which we really felt in the summer. Book one with private onsen if you can afford it - We slept Japanese style on futon. First night I barely slept and wished we had reserved a room with the Western style beds! All part of the experience, but maybe consider a bed if you think it’ll be uncomfortable - Not much to do/see nearby to hotel. Dinner is served early (630pm-ish) and after that it’s pretty much onsen and bed - Expensive compared to other places in Japan. I think it’s a Hakone thing? But definitely noticed the steeper prices
