Location is superb, 3 mins walk away from Gora Station via the short underpass! Staff were polite too. Japanese room is spacious and great especially the open air bath facing the mountains.

1) wifi is really poor. I gave up trying to use it 2) the curtain does not cover the whole windows and hence by 4am, the light shone through the room and disturbed the sleep.

Tensui Saryo is located a few mins walk from the Gora station (you'll have to go through an underpass). It is super easy to catch the Hakone Railway and the cable car. The staff is wonderful. The younger workers spoke some English, but the older workers could not. Not a huge issue as long as you know a few words/phrases in Japanese and use Google Translate for the rest. Everyone was attentive and super helpful. Once you checked in, everything is pretty much handled through their website (like booking a private onsen, spa services, etc.) You get one free drink at the bar while you soak your feet! There are two buildings: the original and an annex. The annex is a newer building, so you do have to walk a little bit to get to the main building where all the amenities are. Not a huge issue when you enjoy wearing your yukata! I stayed at the annex building with a private bath. The view is stunning and the outdoor bath is nice, especially when the weather is cold and the water is super hot. It was relaxing soaking in your private bath outdoor, while enjoying the peace and quiet. The amenities in the room are very good. In addition to free water, the fridge also has some complimentary beers. The room provides pretty much everything you need for a stay: toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, face cleanser, face moisturizer, a steam mist machine for your face, pajamas. I did book a private onsen early in the morning (as there were limited time slots). You get 45 minutes, so be respectful of others as the workers need to clean the onsen before the next reservation. The bath was nice and could fit 2 adults. Highly recommend to do this early in the morning so you can catch the sunrise!   The dinner and breakfast were very good. We were all full on both meals and the food was delicious. Our waitress was super sweet and helpful. Overall, a very nice stay in Hakone!

The sink was right next to one of the beds. It was super weird to use, especially when you are brushing your teeth/washing your face in the morning while trying not to splash water on the bed.

I am a vegetarian, and my partner has tattoos, so it was difficult to find a ryokan that would accommodate us both. Tensui Saryo exceeded expectations - they accommodated me with a delicious vegetarian meal, and we were able to book a room with a private onsen so my partner could enjoy the natural hot springs. The location was perfect near Gora Station as a base for exploring the Hakone mountains. I would definitely recommend this ryokan for any vegetarians who want the ryokan experience!

The WiFi didn’t really reach our room, but in the grand scheme of things it wasn’t a big deal - more time to enjoy our private onsen!

I was staying in the room with open-air tub and foot bath. The hotel is close to the station. The room is huge! The bed is comfortable. Shower has good water preasure. All toiletaries are provided (great quality products). Mini bar has water and some other drinks. The bath is just amazing! Even in summer. It's hot, but that's how onsen is. Since I had my own onsen, I didn't use the hotel one and didn't go the bar. The dinner was an amazing food experience (menu in english is provided). Breakfast is also traditional japanese, which can be not for everyone.

I am 5'2 and I found everything comfortable. Taller people could be strugling with the shower height.

Excellent location very close to Gora station. The room was a good size, with its own entry area and hallway. The futons were not the most comfortable we've had, but were good enough. The balcony hot tub was lovely, and big enough for two people. Dinner was superb, some of the best food we've eaten and great variety. Yukata were provided in a good range of colours and sizes. Staff were helpful and friendly. The free welcome drink at the foot bath bar was a nice touch.

The bookable private onsens seemed to be just larger versions of the balcony hot tub (i.e. not actual onsen water) which was disappointing. I was very excited for the breakfast but did not enjoy it at all - I'm sure it's excellent if you're used to such strong flavours but be aware that it may not be to (even experienced and adventurous) western tastes and have a backup plan.

Location was great, close to Gora train and cable car station. Room was very nice (we had the traditional Japanese style room with own hot spring bath on balcony). The hot spring bath we probably would have enjoyed more if the weather had not been so hot but it was still nice. The dinner and breakfast were excellent although the breakfast menu (traditional Japanese) might be strange to some visitors from Europe/US.

Value for money wasn’t quite where we wanted it to be. For how much we paid for our room, I would have expected things to be a little bit nicer (e.g. welcome snacks were just a few buscuits put out on a table in the restaurant area). The overall experience was still very enjoyable but we felt we overpaid.

The room was fantastic, we loved the Japanese style and found the futon mattress to be very comfortable. We booked half board and the food was mind-blowing !!! But not if you're picky - it's a lot of seafood, unidentifiable items and products and unknown sauces. But we loved it all. Definitely don't miss out on dinner!!! If you prefer a more western-style breakfast (Japanese breakfast can be weird), Camp-Cafe in front is a good option. The staff are all very lovely. Guests get a free drink/nigh in the footpath bar, other unlimited drinks and snacks in the afternoon and a private bath or bedrock spa per night. The Onsen experience was wonderful and there are private and public options, indoor and outdoor.

The WiFi could be better. It's not cheap but after seeing what we got - it was well worth it. A once in a lifetime experience

Great location and nice facilities. I definitely recommend a room with a private onsen and mountain view, I spent all of my chill time on the balcony. The Japanese style room is nice, spacious, and comfortable. The Japanese style breakfast was filling, some hits and misses on the breakfast but overall enjoyable and the misses I think were just personal preference. The coffee shop across the street is also great! The public onsen was clean and there is and indoor and outdoor option.

Nothing, it was a nice stay.

A traditional Japanese ryokan with a western twist. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and went out of their way to help. A welcome drink was available at the bar where you can soak your feet but we didnt get a chance to do this. The room was a good size and comfortable, and although we love a firm mattress, this one was a little too firm for us. We stayed two nights. Lots of amenities in the room and little welcome Mochi. Traditional yukata (i think) were given to wear and you can book the private onsens on the roof with no extra fee (the view is lovely however the onsen is a little tired looking). Ice buckets were available on request. Not sure on ease of location as we hired a car to easily get around. Lovely place to stay.

It's a beautiful hotel with a scenic mountain view and great SPA facilities.

The staff were friendly, but we had many communication issues: booked a room with a private onsen but were told we had to reserve a time slot on the day and that it was too late. We asked again later (hoping to book for the next day) and another member of staff offered us a time slot. We then found out we have an onsen our our balcony, but no one mentioned it during the whole process despite having checked our room number. We also were told that our pre-paid breakfast needed to be booked upon arrival, and that we missed that slot too, then someone randomly offered us a time slot the next morning.
